  • This is my 2016 V6 Chevy Impala LTZ.
    I did a transmission fluid swap, I called many mechanic shops around me and the prices ranged from $310 to $680.
    All it took was a 11mm socket, 4.78 quarts of Dexron VI (ATF). Long funnel for refilling a drip pan that holds 6-7quarts. 30-45mins of your time start to finish and total cost was about $60.
    Hopefully this video helps other feel comfortable to work on their cars and save tons of money on things you can do.

    thanks for the video. When you drain the fluid, you won't get all the fluid out because the torque converter doesn't drain.. Put in the EXACT amount you drained out. There is a special way to check the transmission fluid, so you can't just go by the dip stick. Transmission has to be a certain temp to get a accurate reading on the dipstick. If you run the car for a week or so, then drain and fill again, you will have pretty clean fluid. Lots of mechanics recommend that you don't get a transmission flush, just do the drain and fill.

    Do all V6 impalas take the same transmission. I got a 2014 3.6 and need to replace the transmission

    • @AMRCineVerse
      @AMRCineVerse  16 днів тому

      It should be the same transmission just make sure on this part is it flex fuel or regular - I have a regular one 3.6 (non flex fuel)

    Is there an internal gear filter in a Chevrolet Impala?

    • @AMRCineVerse
      @AMRCineVerse  2 місяці тому

      I did not encounter any filter. Since I have done this my transmission has been operating smoothly.

      There is definitely a filter

      If it's same trans as Buick Enclave, 6T75, the filter is FRIGGIN INTERNAL can only be accessed by dropping entire transaxle. The swap often sacrifices the bell housing gasket when opening enclosure

    The quoted you so much because there is a transmission filter you supposed to change as well

      6T70 on this transmission does not have a filter- Changing the fluid isn't that big a deal. You do want to make sure it's filled with Dexron VI at operating temp but that's not a real big deal. The 6T70 has a dipstick.

    • @AMRCineVerse
      @AMRCineVerse  2 місяці тому

      The 6T70 doesn't have a filter in the transmission nor do most other automatic transmissions.
      What people mistakenly call automatic transmission filters are pickup strainers that keep particles around 110-130 microns from passing through. Anything smaller sails right through.

      @AMRCineVerse  2 місяці тому

      The side cover on the 6T70, with the fill hole and dipstick, is for service access to the valve body. That's all. It's similar in function to the 4T65E cover on the opposite end from the torque converter that provides access to the control solenoids and valve body. It's not a pan in any traditional sense of that word. Neither one has the valve body on the bottom like longitudinal transmissions.
      When you pull the 6T70 drain plug any fluid in the transmission will drain out... including the fluid behind that cover. Pull the dipstick out of top of that valve body cover and check if you don't believe me.
      The 6T70 holds a lot less transmission fluid than earlier units. The torque converter still has several quarts inside but that's the same deal when you drain any automatic transmission

      Make sure what ever you drain out you put back in and make sure 👍🏽 it is Dexron VI (2016 Impala 3.6) check your owners manual for that info.
