She had lupus and April 9th started having complications from it, it was said that at 12:30 that night she had a heart attack and passed away..... May She Rest In Peace
This is so heartbreaking. Thank you for this vid. She was the first natural hair vlogger and one of the only ones that I actually watched all her early vids way before I was on YT. Such a sweet heart and KNEW what she was talking about. I had the pleasure of meeting her here in LA during BeautyCon. My condolences go out to her family and friends. She will be missed
Yes Maya! I'm so glad you remember her! She was so sweet. She always encouraged any progress that I made. Yes, she knew her stuff and she knew her hair very well. Such a smart young lady. Ugh...she will certainly be missed. Thanks for reaching out girl.
I understand what you mean about the way UA-cam USED to be. Back then it was strictly about methods, care, and techniques, which was why I liked her channel when I found her. It wasn't about product reviews, or marketing, or "This product was sent to me, blah blah blah." Because everyone and their mother has a natural hair care line, UA-cam is the perfect platform for marketing. I notice that many UA-camrs that have long gorgeous hair focus on technique rather than products on their channel (occasionally it's okay, but some are overkill). RIP to her, she will be missed.
I'm posting this on ALL tribute vids: I'm late here but I knew Dominique personally. She was a student at LATTC College in the Cosmetology Dept. I remember when she came down and sat with me to get to know more about the program and I was like, "heeeyyyyyy your the girl in the UA-cam vids! I follow you!" and she was like, "realllly??? You actually follow me"...and I'm like , "GIRL YES!". I was shocked she was from the East Coast and came out to LA. She was VERY nice and VERY reserved when I would say hi to her in the hallways. She would always be by herself sitting the hallway before class on her cell phone :) - The last time I spoke to her was a week before she passed, she was checking on her file and her hours because she took a semester off and I was always happy to talk to her...when I got word she passed I was utter shock...utter shock. I can say that I was happy to have met her and happy that she made such a positive impact in social media.
I couldn't agree with you more! we need more women like her in the community. It was my first time seeing someone with Afro textured hair that length and it being so healthy. It was my first time seeing that. Prior to that, my only other reference was Keshia Knight Pulliam. Dominique helped me to believe and SEE that our hair can grow long just like ANY other race and you don't have to be "mixed" like a lot of people thought/or still think! Truly a legend in her own right!
She will forever be The Long Hair Legend. She was amazing at what she did, may she Rest in Peace. It's always a horrible, sad shock to hear that someone has passed away.
R.I.P Ms. Dominique Banks. The Cosmetology Department at LATTC will miss her inspiring presence. I am blessed to have been her instructor last semester. God bless her loved ones.
You are welcome. That picture of her is after an event we had on campus where she modeled with stylish elegance. The background is a partial picture of the cosmetology department.
I know Sera, you and her inspired me so much! I will continue to do my best in helping the new people coming to youtube. we have to keep this a warm and friendly learning environment for the community. Thanks!
R. I. P longhairdontcare2011 you were one of the first to show me that this little black girl one day could have hair down to her tailbone and I salute you! And pray hour journey to heaven is much safer than this hard life could ever be my sister god bless you!
Awww...YES, I agree. She was/is that ray of light and hope to us all, that we can have hair that length too! I know some people may say, "Oh hair is just hair, it's not important!". If that were true the fake hair industry wouldn't be as lucrative as it is today. I will miss Dominique. I will continue to be inspired by her on my hair journey. She was/is a blessing!!! Thanks 4 your comment.
Yes it's so sad. Yes you can grow your hair. Your hair is always growing. Keep utilizing proper hair care methods and you'll reach all of your hair goals. Thanks for reaching out.
Oh yes, the ladies you mentioned really put the work in to share their knowledge about natural hair. My heart is broken about Domineque Banks aka LongHairDontCare2011. Her hair was always absolutely gorgeous! May she rest in peace.
Although I don't make videos, I've been on youtube and watching them for a long time. Longhairdontcare2011 was actually the 1st one that I watch in 2008, when I came here from the LHCF. She will be truely missed. Really enjoyed your tribute, so sweet.
wow I had been watching her videos and didn't even know. I have lupus too. she was my biggest hair crush. ppl with lupus sometimes have a hard tome growing hair I never knew, but now I know its possible. Bless her, she is still Inspiring.
To say I am shocked is an understatement. I really REALLY can not believe she is gone. Such sad news. i have followed her videos for a very long time, and was mesmerised by her hair and found her delivery in her vids to be informative and unpretentious. Seemed a genuinely lovely, intelligent lady. May she rest in perfect peace
I just came by remembering LHDC2011. I couldn't keep on with my night without shedding light on a sweet UA-cam spirit. She was one of the greatest and one of the best on here. Just a sad memory. Remembering her in 2024 and beyond 🕯️🕊️
@britneyJackon she passed away from complications dealing with lupus. It's sad to hear that goes to show that you never know what people are dealing with within their bodies and she was a true inspiration.
Thank you so much for sharing she definitely will be missed. When I started youtube I was on a relaxed hair journey but her channel always inspired me to grow my hair longer. You are so sweet for sharing her great memory here on youtube. Be Blessed and Keep Being A Blessing:-)
She was one of my original inspirations from the natural hair movement on UA-cam as well. This is so sad. You are very sweet to make this video in her honor. May she rest in peace.
You're so right...she was one of the first hair vloggers I started watching on UA-cam. She was the only person I saw with natural hair that long...and she wasn't pushing products like a lot of ppl are now
This is so devastating!!! I was a huge fan. I've been checking her channel faithfully, awaiting more videos and she inspired me to heat train my hair. RIP...
Hey Lovely. I am so saddened. Honestly I was just thinking of the other two ladies that I got to know on here and bonded with, then we lost them and now Dominique. She and I shared messages about she and I having Lupus. Her illness was much more severe than mine. I am so sad about this. You are right, remember Divas like her and Kimmaytube, Pretty Dimples and others in 2009 when I started to watch they all were so helpful. I still rave about Kimmaytube's Leave In Conditioner. Thank you so much for the heartfelt words because you conveyed the same feelings as me. Have a blessed evening :-))
This is unreal. Although she was young enough to be my daughter, I learned a lot from her. She let African American women know that we too can grow long hair and I did with her help. Dominque's montage of hairstyles through the years was my inspiration. She was a soft spoken young lady who just told you the basic things to do and made you realize that you didn't need to have 50+ products to have beautiful hair. Thank you for taking the time to educate us. We will miss your sweet gentle soul. My prayers go out to the family.
Yes. That is how I feel too. She helped us all with the montage video because we were able to see her progress and that made is REAL visually for me. I was like "wow, i can do that too". Often times when I'd get discouraged and feel like my hair would never be waist length, i'd look at her pic in my phone and stay encouraged. I'm bra strap length or a little past and still on my journey to waist length. She will be missed. Thanks for watching.
What a wonderful tribute! She really deserves this recognition! She has def been a huge influence on my journey! And has always responded to any of my questions along the way! R.I.P my sista!
Kharyzma, you did a very nice and heartfelt tribute to longhairdontcare2011. I remember when I first came to youtube in 2011, she was one of the first I saw and I was immediately inspired. Thank you!
Oh my goodness! This is the first time I'm hearing this. This is so sad. My condolences to the family. She was such an inspiration. I learned so much from her. I hope the Bible is a source of comfort in this time and the hope of a resurrection to a paradise earth. Take care. Peace & Love always.
Travel well Longhairdontcare2011..... You were an inspiration to us all....you will be truly missed...sending her family love from her youtube family.......xo
Wow! I am still sad to hear the news. She was an angel. Thank you for doing this video. I did a short video myself because like you said it is important to support one another. She had a big support. She will trully be missed.
You are so sweet for this video. I remember YT back in the day too and Domineque was one of the first people I subscribed to. I remember because I was starting college and I was just getting into my hair journey. Ugh I'm still so saddened by her passing. I feel for her family and close friends. I didn't know lupus was such a devastating disease. Just terrible. And apparently it's most fatal in Black women. Goodness. Now her suffering is over and may she rest in peace.
This is so sad. I just finished watching one of her old videos before finding this... I didn't want to believe it and still can't believe this. This is sad. You will be missed Dominique Banks. Love you for your intelligence, inspirational videos and your undeniable beauty. May you R.I.P.
So true! I watched all those ladies and loved them. Thanks for making this video because you're right that the earlier videos were so simple. Those ladies made every natural lady feel as though they could just go in their bathroom with an iPad camera and make a video. lolsmh She's going to be missed. Loved her.
@kharyzma4u yes, I remember her from back then. I'm shocked because I only find out about this a decade later. What you said was true, she really was one of the pioneers. ❤ I have so much respect for her.
@louiserasesa1812 Sorry that you just heard about it. That year was a hard one cuz another one of my favorite UA-camrs Tamisha Glashen passed a month later 😢
oh no! I was just watching her last video and wondering where she was in her hair journey and why she hadn't uploaded in so long. She was an inspiration to so many of us. My prayers go out to her family and loved ones. She was a beautiful sister. *tears*
I just found this out yesterday! I can't believe it. She was one of the few that started me on my hair care journey. She will be so missed and yes, like how you said about not being fancy with the hair care videos and you can be just in your bathroom? yeeeessssss! and it was just as effective and worked for my hair even though I had my first set back starting last summer and here I am again back to the hair videos for encouragement and motivation. This is why I am now just catching up on some of my favorite hair care videos. Thanks to all you out there that are showing us more healthy ways of taking care of kinky/curly hair! I am a hair survivor of the eighties! Child please! I still get flash backs of the bergamount hair grease and that god awful Jheri curl!! LOL!
For real. The old bathroom simple videos with great haircare info. I miss those days. Yeah I remember the 80's....my Mom used to buy Dax...lol I can remember the pic on the jar with a lady that had one side short and the other long. They were marketing it as a growth product. I remember using it just hoping my hair would get as long as the longer side of the pic.....lol It could have, but my mom just jacked up my hair trying to hot comb and/or perm it all the time. I'd beg her to let me have an afro puff and she never would: ( Now I have my afro puff :)
Dominique was one of the first people who I subscribed to back in 2009 when I went natural. Her journey was inspirational and she will definitely be missed. Thank you so much for sharing this video!
Omg! R.I.P!! She was my first inspiration on youtube for this journey over 4 years ago. I didn't know her personally, but she seemed like such a beautiful rich person inside and out.. I'm truly, truly saddened! My prayers and condolences go out to her family and loved ones. ♡R.I.P.
Yes, when I started to go natural in 2010 she was one of the originals! She paved away for many naturalistas, myself included. Her advice and presence will be missed dearly.
Yes girl, I was on youtube in the beginning too. 2007 is when I started watching...I posted my first video in 2008. Dominique is a pioneer and will forever be remembered.
Nice message! I can't believe she's gone :( I'm in shock! I been subbed for a couple years as well and i remember my ja dropping when i saw her hair and then couldnt stop watching her videos! :( Rip longhairdon'tcare2011
Thanks! I'll never forget the video when she was doing a bun and she put it all up in the bun and I thought to myself "gosh that's so much hair"...little did I know that it was just the front portion she put up. The back was pinned up and then she proceeded to add the back portion to the bun. She had so much hair that it was not easy to put it all up in a bun so she broke it up into two portions...AMAZING!!!
So sad, she was beautiful and young and she will be missed. I loved her videos on here and inspired me to go natural. May she RIP, thank you for this tribute to her.
This was shocking to learn, & I was alone in 2001 when I was natural & had no idea of the natural UA-camrs back then!!! RIP Domineque. I had no idea she suffered with Lupus which is a major killer of Black women. What a tragedy. I learned of her late in 2012.
I am in shock too. I watched her videos for awhile. RIP Dominique Banks you will not be forgotten. God Bless her soul. I sent my deepest heartfelt sympathy to her family.
This was such a shock, I enjoyed her videos. Her and her hair were beautiful - may she rest in peace. I myself had a sister die from Lupus complications 7 years ago, and I have another sister living with the disease.
This is so sad. She was the first UA-cam video I watched about natural hair. I just loved her videos and it help guide me through my process. She died a year and 5 days after my mother. It's wonderful to leave behind a legacy!
I'm so sorry, didn't mean to shock you, cuz I don't like being shocked myself. I was shocked when my sister texted me. You're welcome...ugh...so sad :(
No worries. And I want to thank you Kharyzma for always staying true on UA-cam. I first found your channel years ago when kimmaytube made a comment on of your videos. It's sad that we don't show appreciation until something bad happens but I know I'm not alone when I say I really appreciate you and your videos. Thank you
ggbeanbean Awww THANK YOU!!! YES..I LOVE kimmaytube as well! That's why I LOVED the community so much more back then, we HELPED one another and were in it together. It wasn't about competing. I appreciate you too! THANK YOU!!!! :) Much love!!!
Mannn, What?! i can't believe this, i'm so late to hearing this but it hurts me so much! I watched her videos and she seemed to be so humble and she just wanted to share what helped her get to where her hair was. She will definitely be missed and she has inspired many people with her experience!
Yeah, I know...so sorry. I feel the same, so sad. But just know she's in a better place. She taught us all so much and we can still watch her old videos. She will be greatly missed. Feel better.
Omg. Im so sorry and sad. I just got this news. She was so young and beautiful. Prayers to her family. This beautiful young woman is gone too soon. You will be missed. RIP angel :(
That was so sweet of you to make this. I wasn't familiar with her but the Natural Hair group on Facebook mentioned this. So I had to learn more about her. My condolences to her family. :( I hear she died from Lupus.
She was the one that made me big chop, and she kept me thru the bad days. She helped so many, just wanted to say thank you for keeping me grounded when it came to my hair. RIP longhairdontcare11. We send our love out to her family and followers.
That's so sad ! I just got the news from Black Girl With Long Hair and it's really shocking me since it's just 2 days ago that I discover her youtube page and I was (as we say back in Cameroon) "wanda" = wonder by her amazing hair and told myself : "waouh ! a black girl with sooo long hair? OK ! I'll seriously take care of mine to have such a wonderful lenght! Ah la laaa ! May her soul rest in perfect peace ! Que la terre de nos ancêtres te soit légère Dominique !!!
Wow I've been thinking about her over years. I finally her channel and saw yesterday that she had stopped back in 2011 when I followed her. We had a board, is where I found her. Awww rest well beautiful
I did not know her personally but my heart is truly hurt. She was the G.O.A.T when it came down to caring properly for natural and educating other natural women on how to do the same. She also seemed to have such a gentle and calm personality. RIP the community will truly miss her.
What beautiful sentiments. I agree, years ago the natural hair climate was a bit different. Videos contained more content vs. glamour, products, comparisons, controversy etc... In my opinion, it's just strands of hair. It grows, greys, thins, falls out....Thanking God for Dominique's life and light.
Same here. She was the reason my sister and I went natural. This is extremely heartbreaking! Will pray for her family and friends dealing with loss of Dominique.
I know this is old. Just reminiscing. She was the reason I went natural... RIP
She had lupus and April 9th started having complications from it, it was said that at 12:30 that night she had a heart attack and passed away..... May She Rest In Peace
❤🙏🏽

Every so often I think of her. She had such a calm spirit to her 😢😢
Thought about her today. One of the natural hair ogs that inspired me to go natural.

How sad. She was definitely one of the first vloggers I ever saw. Hair was so beautiful, she did her thing. Wow...wow...R.I.P.
R.I.P She was beautiful and always had inspirational stories about her hair journey which inspired others.... :(
She sure did. Thanks 4 watching.
So beautiful of you to do this tribute!
Thank you.

@@louiserasesa1812 Thanks. This was years ago now. Those were the good old days. Thx for watching
@kharyzma4u that's heavy! 😭 life is so precious, we really have to live it to the fullest, just like these beautiful women did.
She was such an inspiration. She will be missed.. God bless her family
OMG! Dominique you are the reason why i went natural. Rest in the ever lasting arm's. You are forever my inspiration!♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
oh no! I was just watching her last video and wondering where she was in her hair journey and why she hadn't uploaded in so long. She was an inspiration to so many of us. My prayers go out to her family and loved ones. She was a beautiful sister. *tears*
So sad. I was looking for her videos. Didn’t know she passed.
Yeah. She passed in 2014. R.I.P. Sorry that you just heard about it. Were you away from UA-cam that long?
So sad, I just found her videos even though I been on here since 2012. I love her videos can't believe it.
I feel so bad I loved watching her videos. My heart goes out to the family. She seemed like a very sweet person
Thanks for commenting. Feel better. We are all saddened. Atleast we still have her videos to inspire us.
Hahaha!! Dax! I remember Dax! and Royal crown! I hated Royal crown! I always thought it smelled like bacon grease!
sheliene12 lol...I never tried Royal Crown.....lol at bacon grease!
Dominique was one of the first people who I subscribed to back in 2009 when I went natural. Her journey was inspirational and she will definitely be missed. Thank you so much for sharing this video!
You're welcome. Yeah...it was so different back in 2009. I miss those youtube days. She will be missed.
I miss those days too!
Omg! R.I.P!! She was my first inspiration on youtube for this journey over 4 years ago. I didn't know her personally, but she seemed like such a beautiful rich person inside and out.. I'm truly, truly saddened! My prayers and condolences go out to her family and loved ones. ♡R.I.P.
She was an inspiration to us all. May she R.I.P.Thanks for watching.
I loved her so much... she was one of the first ladies who inspired me to go natural 4+ yrs ago. May she rest in everlasting peace!!!
Rip longhairdon'tcare2011
This is such a nice video honouring her. She will be missed.
MsBellaRosa1 Thank you:)
So sad, she was beautiful and young and she will be missed. I loved her videos on here and inspired me to go natural. May she RIP, thank you for this tribute to her.
You are very welcome. I am just so happy that we are all coming together to talk about how much of an inspiration she is! She would be so happy!
This was shocking to learn, & I was alone in 2001 when I was natural & had no idea of the natural UA-camrs back then!!! RIP Domineque. I had no idea she suffered with Lupus which is a major killer of Black women. What a tragedy. I learned of her late in 2012.
I am so sorry to here about such a lovely person passing. My God be with her family and friends. God Bless
I know...so sorry to hear that. She will rest in peace. Thanks for commenting.
This is so sad. She was the first UA-cam video I watched about natural hair. I just loved her videos and it help guide me through my process. She died a year and 5 days after my mother. It's wonderful to leave behind a legacy!
Gina Marwa I'm so sorry to hear that. Yes, it's very sad, but they are both now with the angels, a better place. I hope you feel better.
Such an inspiration. RIP sweetie!
This is heartbreaking, she was one of the first Natural UA-camrs I watched. This young lady had awesome hair and an awesome spirit. She is missed.
Can't believe I am just finding out :(
I'm so sorry you are just finding out. She was amazing and her hair so beautiful. May she R.I.P.
Wow!!! I cant believe it!!! Prayers to the family :-(
I was so shocked when I saw the title of your video. What a big loss. Thank you for posting this video and informing us
I'm so sorry, didn't mean to shock you, cuz I don't like being shocked myself.
RIP angel :(
I was just watching one of her videos. I can't believe she passed.😢

Utterly sadden by this news. She is who encourage me to go natural. Very inspirational. May she RIP
That was so sweet of you to make this. I wasn't familiar with her but the Natural Hair group on Facebook mentioned this. So I had to learn more about her. My condolences to her family. :( I hear she died from Lupus.
Yeah. She will be missed. Thnx for commenting.
She was the one that made me big chop, and she kept me thru the bad days. She helped so many, just wanted to say thank you for keeping me grounded when it came to my hair. RIP longhairdontcare11. We send our love out to her family and followers.
Thanks for sharing.
Oh! Jesus. I;m so sorry to hear that. I feel so sad. She was one of the only one I watched. I will always remember her.
wow...I'm so stunned....she was great. R.I.P.
She was awesome. Thanks for reaching out.
Wow I've been thinking about her over years. I finally her channel and saw yesterday that she had stopped back in 2011 when I followed her. We had a board, is where I found her. Awww rest well beautiful
Wow...sorry to hear that you're just finding out. Yes, may she rest in peace. She passed away in 2014. Never forgotten. Thanks for watching.
Thanks and yes I truly agree.
Wow I'm so sad! I loved her videos! She will be greatly missed.
Thanks for sharing, this is so sad to hear.
Same here. She was the reason my sister and I went natural. This is extremely heartbreaking! Will pray for her family and friends dealing with loss of Dominique.
And I just found her channel....OMG - poor thing. May she rest in peace :(
I'm seriously so shocked! May she rest in peace.
