here how you get cream of milk .Allow the milk to set for 24 hours .Then open the Spigot at the bottem - the skimmed milk will come out , leaving the creamline floating at the top.Once you are nearing the end of the milk layer , you can capture the cream layer in a separate cantainer . This is how my Amish grandma did it .

Great video once again. I love your farm. I grew up milking cows on a small dairy in Oregon. Nothing quite like farm fresh whole milk. The one thing I recommend you do to avoid the risk of her developing mastitis is dipping her teets in iodine after your done milking. The iodine dries and forms a thin skin like film protecting the teets from having and debris/dirt getting in. The iodine washes off very easy before the next milking.
Hello from northern KY....you should sell the extra milk, frozen chickens, frozen pork and beef. Im sure there are some folks around you that would like to have some fresh goodies that they don't have room or know how to grow themselves. We have 164 acres here but no fencing or energy for farming anymore. Did our share when we were younger. We didn't call it homesteading, we just called it farming....feeding the family.....living in the country. But that was back in the day when everything wasn't store bought. Keep up the good work!
best way to plant your celery is get a little tupaware pot add your soil, sprinkle a fin layer of celery seeds over and lightly sprinkle a little soil and i mean a little just to cover them make sure there moist, then let them grow and prick out all the seedlings you need, and plant them into the ones your planting in now so you have established healthy seeds per module tray and it will save you alot of space and time a great guy to check out for gardening tips is charles dowding. been loving your videos man hoping to get a place in the near future, at the moment i gotta stick with my 10 tomatos, white current, thyme on my little balcony getting 6 hours of sun and my grow tent with jalapenos haha. your a inspiration.
I look forward to your videos. When you took a lil time off, I went to your channel to make sure I didn't miss the video by accident. We moved onto an acre two yrs ago. I have a small homestead and LOVE being outside all day long. But, I don't get snow, Zone 9b 😊 sometimes I feel having to feed the animals twice a day becomes a burden, but when I get there if I focus it really doesn't take that much time. Then, I enjoy being there with extra time to water trees. I'm trying to grow for shade so they have an area to escape the heat.

a little tip from me, when you sow seeds, put plastic foil over it until you see that the seeds have germinated, it keeps the moisture in well. Lovely video as usual, you are doing so well on your farm, your animals are doing so well❤❤
all that moisture and mud that in part seems to be a little nuisance now will be a blessing when there are more years of drought in a row coming eventually and it keeps your property resilient through those times - alongside your own methods of improving the pasture of course. Do you have a time in mind when you can turn out the cow-gang? Good luck with everything, may the channel, the bacon&steaks, and the plants grow in the way you like them to.
The lower portion of the grass plant has higher protein, as do any seeds, if allowed to go to seed. The top portion of the grass plants is higher in carbohydrates-sugars-ENERGY. Grain ruins the pH of the gut and kills the beneficial bugs in the gut microbiome.

Have a small light thing like you do an it didnt work so great ether . Then I remeber my mom use to put her trays by a south or sunny window . So ,I did that this year . Also use miracle grow soil in them an all my seed have came up really fast an are doing great . Also I used a small wooden TV tray to set the seed trays on .

That was a fun video. You need to put a stretchy wristband on the water spicket. Put it on your wrist when you turn the water on. That way you remember to turn it back off. I have seen a few homesteads use it.

When you say that it's a "feeder pig" does that mean it will be harvested for meat ?

Wow , I Could probly live on all that meat for atlest 2 years . An are you going to plant a field of corn ? To use for your pigs . We did and toke it to a feed gain place an any time we need feed we just went there an They grounded and bagged for use . Of course we had about 50 to 100 head of pigs . An The first 2 sows we raise (before biulding the bigger barn ) 1 white sow had 15 babe Piglets ,But she wouldn,t lay still When she gave birth to them an killed all but 5 cause she lad on them . She was 200 lbs ( we butcher her after that . An The black pig had 10 she did good . We didn,t let the 2 pigs run around like you do . Cause they get bigger that way .

Raw milk from healthy cows is tasty and lasts longer than milk from a mastitic cow. Improper handling of milk is when milk quality is ruined. Improper chilling and not maintaining of temp between 33° F to 40° F are the worst culprets of poor milk flavor and quality. Dirty lower rear legs touching the open teat end or laying on a dirty surface is when most mastitis is contracted.
If the teat sphincter closes properly prior to the teats touching something laden with bacteria and the milking preparation routine is good, mastitis is NOT an issue. We used an iodine predip and post dip for many years. We used a bleach and skin conditioner pre and post dip for the last few years that we milked our 750 milking herd. We had sand beds and flushed our alleys behind the cows every 8 hours to remove the manure.
We pulled any mastitis cow into a group that the milk got fed to calves until they were tested as mastitis-free and antibiotic-free. Calves on whole milk grew much better than when we had fed milk replacer in the 1970's, 80's, 90's, and early 2000's. We began whole milk feeding to calves in 2005 or 6. You can feel a quarter that is affected by mastitis get warmer or hot; the milk sprays out into a different pattern, due to the somatic cells that are beginning to get more in number [best to strip foremilk onto a strip cup or washable solid floor or cmt paddle, like you did]; or a change in color or texture. We aseptic sampled any affected quarter; struck the sample on a biplate or triplate; incubated the media plate; read the growth; determined which therapy was appropriate for the type of bacteria affecting the quarter; and tested for antibiotic resides to be gone prior to returning a cow to the regular groups. Our cows generally did not lay in crap, although a few, usually the short ones or ones that arched their backs alot when deficating, would poop in their stall and lay in it. The stalls were cleaned by the milking crew every 8 hours, just prior to flushing the walk.
Man you were doing sooo good until you started regurgitating crap someone feed you about the commercial dairy industry. The anti raw milk thing is largely political. If we didn't have commercial farmers we'd be in deep dodo. Milk and its byproducts are used to make so many things. And not everyone can have a milk cow or source raw milk. You are absolutely right! Ive designate those back pastures our "drought" grazing. The cows are now out on grass!

A suggestion on your weed fabric. Dig a small trench around the outside so you can cover it up. This keeps it from getting any wind under it.

The anti raw milk thing is largely political.
If we didn't have commercial farmers we'd be in deep dodo. Milk and its byproducts are used to make so many things. And not everyone can have a milk cow or source raw milk.
It seems homesteaders and farmers are always talking smack about one another. 🙄
