    This brings me back!
When my parents were living in India, the soil of their garden was terrible. Hardly any organic matter, mostly sand and clay, extremely bad water retention. My mother got coffee grounds from the instant coffee plant close by, supplemented it with rice chaff which was the most readily available source of vegetable organic latter, and added this to the soil over time. Part of it composted, part of it fresh. Over a period of three years, in addition of well-composted manure (mixed with chopped rice stalks) the garden slowly turned into a much greener, more fertile and healthy environment. Mom used what she had available. It worked.
    Nice memories…😊

I have used coffee grounds in my compost pile and around my pepper plants to keep away pest.
In the Compost pile they are as you described, a great benefit, but keep them in a balance to the other ingredients.
We used the left over tea (bags and leaves) from when we made Southern iced Tea as well in the garden. Scattered around the Azaleas and Roses . Made it by the gallon on a daily basis, sometimes in Summer, twice a day.
Plants that like a more acidic soil really love coffee and tea grounds.

I have a hot compost pile going right now that I put a bunch of grounds in. All the microbial life in there should break it down pretty quick.
