  • The women members of Raiser in Nayagarh district have set-up a Community Seed Bank in their village. The seed bank operates just like a bank. Here farmers of neighbouring villages borrow seeds and return double the quantity in the next year. The seed bank which initially had only 12 variety of seeds, has now increased to different varieties of paddy, millet, pulses and vegetable seeds.
Since generations women were the decision makers of seeds to be sown in their agriculture fields but after green revolution their husbands brought high yield seeds from market and women lost their control. Now they are happy that indigenous seeds have returned their past glory by empowering them.
