Yes, it saved his Auctioneer - but it also drew him a card (which ultimately did 6+ damage due to the earlier fatigues), and meant he couldn't have removal for something more important later. It may not have made a difference, but at the time he couldn't have known that. In addition, not Fireblasting the Acolyte on the turn it came out seemed to cost him his Flamestrike a turn earlier. I'm not sure precisely when he drew it, but I believe it was the draw from when he ran the Acolyte into a minion, and if I'm not mistaken by that point he didn't have enough mana to use it (or at least use it well). Also, your priest deck was fairly decent, so you shouldn't be surprised that it won. Though that was a fairly nice mage deck too.

Mage shouldn't be nerfed, it's already near unplayable in constructed so nerfing it would make it extremely worse than all the other classes
