  • Pitching jigs and a new elastic plastic from Northland Fishing Tackle called Eye Candy. This new plastic is very soft and stretchy but also is excellent for absorbing scent and can out fish traditional PV plastics on tougher bites.
We fish the Missouri River near Bismarck, North Dakota for post spawn walleye with Kade Lynch from Aqua Traction of North Dakota. Using side imaging to find schools of fish, we would use the spot lock on the trolling motor to position the boat for casting. The scout mode on the Active Target was used to cast at specific fish.
Tips on finding and catching walleye on the Missouri River. Tips for using forward facing sonar and side imaging to find and catch walleye on river systems.
Note the new Eye Candy soft plastics are getting tested right now. We have been using some prototypes since last summer. Most retailers will have it available in 2024.

Another great video. Probably still my favorite UA-cam fishing channel being from the Midwest. One small improvement would be if you could get a quick measurement for your viewers on those big fish.

I noticed how well your side imaging looks and that you are running 455kHz. Can you please explain when you use 455 vs 800. I know that 455 goes out much further but I thought 800 does a better job showing fish.

I use the 800 most of the time. I will use the lower frequency when out over deep water when looking far distances for lay downs, brush piles and rocks. For some reason, the low frequency can also work really well in super shallow water less than five feet. Those are the only situations when I like it, the rest of the time I rely on the 800.

We have walleye in Willard bay, would it be best to fish in the late evening?

If the water is clear, mornings and evenings can be best. Also like evenings early in the year when the water is still cold.
