  • It's a mysterious yet exciting time! After the glorious reign of kings such as Senusret III and Amenemhat III of the 12th Dynasty, the central government in Egypt begins to falter, eventually leading to the breakaway of several territories including parts of Nubia and a large chunk of the eastern Nile Delta region. This leads to rival dynasties popping up and the beginning of the era we know as the Second Intermediate Period. You won't want to miss this!

Edifying and entertaining as always, Cy. Your brightlining of the rarity that is the woman-pharaoh inheriting the throne and ruling solely such as Sobekneferu has got me really excited for the upcoming dynasties esp. the 17th & 18th which are rife with precedents of successful ruler-queens like Ahhotep and Ahmose Nefertari and the powerful woman-pharaoh Hatshepsut. And it makes me more excited as we're inching closer and closer to my favourite Neferneferuaten-Nefertiti. It would be really fantastic when you begin to discuss the theories regarding her purported co-regency with Akhenaten. Kudos and keep up the great work.

    • @HistorywithCy
      @HistorywithCy  Рік тому +4

Oh, there's going to be a lot on the 18th for sure. Still wondering if it's going to be one or two videos. I'm leaning towards one, but will have many to supplement it, for example, specific videos on Hatshepsut, Thutmose III and Akhenaten... and probably Amenhotep III. Thanks for watching!

@@HistorywithCy don’t forget about Kamose. I find the death of Seqenenre Tao then the revenge traps Ahhotep crafted raising her sons to finish their father’s work fascinating. There’s an amazing what if thread around Kamose’s death while besieging Avaris. So very Richard I of England of him. How different would the 18th dynasty be if he was the founder rather than his baby brother. Gripping stuff that would make a great historical drama.

My favorite series on UA-cam. I love this because it's how the Egyptians themselves framed the narrative of their history. If they understood their history through the context of the progression of the Pharoahs, we should, too. As an American, I like that their history rises and falls. Americans often subscribe to the notion of 'progress' as if progress is never lost and doesn't need our mindful guidance.

Have you found Dr. David Falk's channel yet? It's called Ancient Egypt and The Bible. He's an Egyptologist with a special interest in Israelite/Ancient Near East cultures. He is a Christian, but he's a true scholar and seems quite good at trying to stay objective when presenting things, answering questions, etc.
So, no wacky cognitive dissonance arguments or conspiracy theories there 😋
I don't normally rec other channels in comments of people's videos, in case that's some kind of UA-cam sin 😂 But I'm risking it because it's a really good channel to just kind of get a zoom-in on just what you're asking about 🙂
So hopefully Cy doesn't mind me mentioning it. I mean, it's obvious I love Cy's channel too- I'm here, after all 🤷‍♀️😄

You can narrow the timeline down slightly.
The influx of people came at a very similar time to the Thera eruption (roughly 1600BCE).
There would have been refugees from the coastlines where any tsunami washed against, and one such island even today has an ancient settlement now called Ialysos, on the (old name) isle of Ixos.
Oddly, 'ixos' is the old Greek word for mistletoe.
    Mistletoe is a parasitic plant.
I know I'm an autie, and see connections others miss sometimes, but this really feels like a strong set of possibilities to me.

Another excellent video.A shame we have just few discoveries about the 13th and 14th dynasties .
The transition between the 19th and beginning of the 20th is obscure too ,but from what we known had similar circunstances as between the XII/XIII dynasties.
Never heard about this theory of short therm pharaohs ,all from different noble houses.Looks like an oligarch coup as the one the happened in different greek cities centuries later.
We are near the time of the 18th dynasty (who expelled the Hyksos), do you plan to make a single video or a series about them?Too many interesting figures as Ahmose,Thutmose I, Hashepsut ,Thutmose III,Amenhotep III,Akhenaten,Nefertiti,Tutankhamon,Horenheb....

Hi! Good question. I will make one long video on the 18th but will also do separate videos on some of the pharaohs of that line, for example Hatshepsut, Thutmose III and Akhenaten for sure. It was done to hide the African noses on the faces so they could rewrite history by saying that non sub Saharan African peoples were the legitimate founders of Egypt. There is no evidence ,5bat the Canaanite administration attempted to rule all of Egypt in contrast to the Hyksos, the militaristically advanced force with Light , spoked wheel chariots, horses and Tin/ bronze weapons. Nor can it be proven that Avaris was as advanced as a city before the Hyksos.

      1. No , the Egyptians clearly depicted themselves as black , not as light skinned , so that doesn't make a lot of sense .
      2. They're called Berbers for a reasons , so I really doubt they could build something as grand as Egypt especially as their culture is entirely derived from other nations .
