OMG that guitar sounds absolutely amazing!!!! The tone woods really seem to work together well to produce a full and balanced sound!!! Listening to your evaluation, it is clear you can't keep it, but I think that guitar is a winner!!!
That Martin is along the lines of what I would love in an acoustic guitar: the size, shape, cedar top, slotted headstock, abalone, walnut. I love it. But it would be out of my price range.
I like the fact the name is not on the front of the headstock. You look at it and you know it’s a Martin, sounds super warm. Thanks for showing it Jeremy
That's a very nice 12 fret Jeremy! I have a 2015 Martin 0000-18S (12 fret slot head) that looks similar but has more traditional Adi top with Mahogany back and sides. Small logo on the front of the headstock and the CF Martin & Co stamp on the back of the headstock, a wide saddle belly bridge, and the same short pattern diamond and squares that your 000 has. It has the 1 13/16" neck similar to yours, but mine has an Ebony fingerboard. This is one that George Gruhn had made to celebrate the 45th anniversary (1970 - 2015) of the opening of his Nashville guitar store. It's a shame I can't post a picture in here, as it has very pretty Mahogany on the back and sides. No gold hardware, just a set of chrome Waverly's.
Cedar tops are my favorite with walnut. My Furch guitars are that combination. Smooth tone and so resonant. It doesn't surprise me that it sounds that way.
Awesome video thanks for sharing. I agree with you. When you find that special guitar you feel good and relaxed every time you play it. I do love Martin GUITARS. I have had the pleasure of visiting the Martin guitar factory twice in past years. I want to go there again someday, Stay well and safe.
Though described as "wierd" the Cedar/Claro Walnut combination was the choice by George Lowden for his original "O23" series guitars. It is a great combination, though cedar tops are easily marked.
Jeremy, I think this one will very soon end up in the one that got away category. It sounds very, very good - special. The things you ding it for seem really superficial. It is beautiful. I certainly wouldn't call it weird, but unique. The sound quality gets a big check, however, if playability is an issue then I understand. Regardless, thanks for sharing it with us.
46mm on the nut is a big ask. As someone who plays classical/flamenco with and is fine with 52mm with nylon strings, 46mm is still a big ask. Mostly because of thumb-overing.
This guitar reminds of the 1960s listening to the folk recording artists like Peter, Paul and Mary hearing the warm tones of their instruments but knowing it is a steel stringed instrument. This guitar could easily perform solos on a recording of acoustic instruments. I can listen to Stephen Stills and CSNY playing this guitar in a concert in a solo performance. Or Peter White perhaps. But this guitar is not for the faint of heart. You know it is steel stringed. It is not for new age type meditation music, but for a beautiful concert of protest songs of the injustices of the world. It has that power to get its point across . Then a walk into the woods as you see the waterfalls and the trees being destroyed due to disrespect of the environment by people who do not care but are driven by money. Yes, this is what I hear and envision with this. Being in a concert for a common cause to better the world through friendship and music. This guitar is that guitar to do it. Pat with the 51 year old Favilla F5 and Gibson 1990 J-50 which has the soul the Martin has.
That guitar is a beauty in sound and appearance the quirks notwithstanding. It reminded me of my own Martin Custom Shop in some ways ... a 12 fret, slotted headstock (Square), 1 13/16 bone nut, Sitka top and Mahogany back and sides, and the body size is 0000 which is a fantastic body size. If you've never played a 12 fret 0000 you should ... such a lovely guitar to play.
Hey Jeremy, may name is Gary and I’m from OZ, I just want to say how much I enjoy watching your videos. Like you, I’m a Martin nut!! While not been able to go to far up the lineup, my dream is to one day own a HD28 but now my D12e is keeping me very happy, and I do love it, she just keeps calling out to me for a play! Mate your inspiration to Guitar lover’s and player’s in further corners than you may realise. Keep up the job mate, cheers for now. 🙂
Jeremy, take a walk on the wild side! I have a custom Martin and also many “unique” custom guitars from small custom builders. Love them. My latest custom has an Englemann spruce top, ziricote back and sides with a Koa wedge in the back. Also Koa binding, gold Gotoh tuners with ebony buttons, ebony fingerboard and bridge. With basically a Martin style mahogany neck. Awesome. Another has a Port Orford cedar top with Black Limba back and sides. Many others with exotic woods. That is a fine Martin custom you have. A nice detour from the conventional Sitka/mahogany configuration. If you sell it, what are you expecting to get out of it?
This guitar sounds amazing. the logo and heel are not important to me. but... just when I was being amazed by overtones and clarity, I realized it was altered tuning, so it's hard to compare the sound. . I've never heard of a guitar being compared to food like that! What I look for in my dream guitar. 1. It has to look great, 2 it has amazing tone, and balanced tone 3, it feels great, ie not too much hand fatigue with bar chords, 4 intonation and buzz has to be right 5. not too heavy, 6, not ridiculous in price, but not so cheap that I keep wondering. 7. not too precious to play and share. By the way, your noodling is now up there. I think there is a relationship between how good the guitar is and how long you noodle for.
I've owned a solid cedar top dreadnought with ovangkol sides for many many years. It's not a Martin (its Korean made, very nicely), but it always has gotten compliments on its sound. $400 with case in 1995. The cedar with steel strings is really an amazing sound for both fingerpicking and chord strumming. It's subdued and strongly voiced at the same time, hard to describe really. The notes are clearly defined but not too sharp in any part of the bandwidth.
Most excellent custom shop Martin. This guitar is unique in so many ways, but with a familiar ring in the tone. The only problem is that if you are looking for Monique, then Unique just won't do... but if you are looking for Unique, this girl might just be the one!!
A few years ago I sold 4 Martin guitars ranging from a 1929 0-28, excellent condition, through a 80s 000-28 in mint condition. I decided to “build” a custom shop Martin and made up my list, very similar to what you have. I handed the build sheet to a vintage shop with a close connection to Martin and never heard from them! What you have is beautiful and I’d be interested in purchasing it… let me know if you decide to sell it…
That’s a lovely guitar! My guess for your custom shop Martin would be a d28 with carpathian spruce top and an old style square open headstock like on that 000 in your video. Keep up the good work and thanks for all the nice video’s so far!
Jeremy, thank you for this video. 000 Martins are my favorite guitar and I’ve always loved cedar tops. This wood combo sounds amazing. I love my Martin 00015SM with slotted head stock and 1 3/4 nut. I’m a finger picker and the 1 3/4,works perfect. Not sure the larger but would work but since I started out on classical guitars, maybe. Love the sound, 12 fret, etc. I agree the rosewood heel cap and abalone don’t fit, but it is a cool guitar and truly one of a kind. Martins are my favorite
Really would like to see a review of the Martin D-41 Turbo Custom. They were special order jobs by the Mandolin Bros. I have a 2008 Martin D-28 Marquis and I LOVE it. Wonderful tone and the string spacing is perfect for me. The neck was handful at first but I really prefer it now. I've had it for 5 years now... I'd never sell it.
I’ve played guitar for 20 years, I searched for many years for a great professional all solid wood guitar, I had several Eastman, Larrivee, Taylor’s and all were quite nice but I stopped searching when I found my custom shop Martin with Vts(torrefied) Adirondack and mahogany 000. I will have a Bourgeois one day but for now this Martin plays perfectly, but it’s not as traditional as this Martin here.
same, martin cs d18 with sinker mahogany b & s, sitka top, absolutely is mind blowing how good it sounds, still looking for a boutique quitar that will match it...the thrill of the hunt right....
Great video. Ahh Martin guitars. My dream guitar is the HD-28. I would be happy with the D-28... Lol.. But I ended up getting the Recording King RD-328 since it was what I could afford and I was very surprised at how this sounds like my dream guitar. Keep up the awesome videos.
If you understand Martin heritage then this guitar is an amazing throwback. I think that the right "large handed" player would rejoice at this neck width.
Interesting you spec'd a wider nut width. Furch will do a six-string with a 48mm nut as standard; good for men with fat fingers. Never sure how guys manage with a 43mm nut.
Ah!, the heel cap works IMO the Low E string seems like it needs to sit deeper into the nut. I would have liked a Red Cedar and Redwood or Cocobolo. In all yes it looks similar to my 2021 OOO15SM, BUT…. that’s the beauty of putting a guitar you love, like my 2013 GCPA4R in some one else’s hands. I love the SM but my other Martín is so delightful! I certain this Dark/light pairing will produce great atmospheric moods
I understand your reticence in keeping it but it would be my choice--just sure it's out of my price range. It's a beauty! Even the 1-13/16 but width is appealing.
That is one truly beautiful guitar! It is very close to what I have been seeing. I suppose one could get over the gold tuners, I don't see that well anyway.
I am fascinated with the norman blake ooo 28 12 frett slotted headstock om body shaped guitar. Not 000 12 ftett rounded shoulders, but the shoulders and lower bout of a 000 28 or 000 18. The belly or stick bridge is placed in the sweet spot of the lowrr bout of the guitar just like a regular 12 frett guitar. Neck profile, string spaceings at nut and saddle would be discretionary to fit the needs of the customer and luthier. No one wants to build an instrument like this. Martin built a handful of them some time ago. It is the only martin guitar that wss not designed by cf martin co. It was concieved by norman blake.
It did sound beautiful. But, as I've said before, you could make a banana sound good. (I'm thinking that might be because of the non-standard tuning?) The cedar top is unusual for a steel string guitar. I have a 1973 Yairi classical (nylon strings) with a cedar top and it's a canon! Very warm sounding. The walnut might be beautiful, but the black binding doesn't do it for me. Of all the guitars you've played, I think the Martin 000-28 modern deluxe is by far the best!! Get one of those.....
Much better background, the fast color change was a bit too much for my taste, what a sweet little thing, its not a boomy dread 4 sure, best sounding little guitar is your waterloo, hands down
Was it a true 12-fret? Meaning, did they lengthen the upper bout or move the neck/bridge down into the lower bout? I’ve heard Martin just lengthens the upper bout, which does nothing for the sound.
Just FYI: Hunter Hayes would love that guitar! 🙌 You should try to sell it to him. 😉 He loves playing that kind of 0/00 guitars. On another note: If I were you, I would soon regret selling that one! It sounds so special, unique and just lovely! 🥰 #theonethatgotaway
I wouldn’t say weird. Unusual, highly. But thoughtfully configured. If you’re really wanting to sell it, why are you concentrating on its negatives. Are you creating a situation where you have no choice but to keep it?
You said the nut width is 1 13/16", which is much wider than 1 3/4"..........did you mean to say 1 15/16" ? Because 1 13/16 is only 1/16 away from 1 3/4, not that big a difference.
if only I could take a guitar with me everywhere to be that best person! I definitely try to bring it with most the time...also the guitar is absolutely a killer imho.
Good guitars Pal BUT they have always sounded too yhin for me. That's the square shoulder effect. I much prefer Gibsons slpoe shoulders. As a builder I notice that rounded shoulder on violins and othe string instruments. Your UA-cam vids sound like one big ad for Martin. BTW I have met the man and talked details when he visited here ( Australia) in the early 80s. Please don't sound like a Martin salesman. Look at alternatives. I have made a dreadnought with herringbone from stewmac parts. I like the interior bracing= do you understand it? I have Taylor guitars that are asw good as the one I built in 2004.
Kind of a slot-head Lowden with gloss finish. Or something Santa Cruz would make -- period. Oh my. Meanwhile, I kind of know what would be one of your perfect guitars. And you can't have it. ;-)
Sounds about as good as any other modern martin... Not overly balanced, raspy and then you go play some typical guitar shop crap on it. The tone woods are as week as their modern fast growth. My 53 OOO is a lot nicer and cost me half the price. hilarious. Stop pushing bullshit. Sounds like a taylor, barely has the martin tone, overly boomy, lacing middle and treble balance.
Love this guitar! It's voice is clear, deep, and warm at the same time, and the woods are gorgeous. I wish I could own it!
OMG that guitar sounds absolutely amazing!!!! The tone woods really seem to work together well to produce a full and balanced sound!!! Listening to your evaluation, it is clear you can't keep it, but I think that guitar is a winner!!!
While not something I would personally seek out, it is still a killer guitar. I'm glad you showed us this one of a kind Martin man.
Best sounding guitar I've ever heard you play, and it's not even close. The open tuning helps.
You know what Jeremy, that guitar punches all the right buttons for me (I'm 2:30 into the episode) WELL DONE man!!!
That's a very nice 12 fret Jeremy! I have a 2015 Martin 0000-18S (12 fret slot head) that looks similar but has more traditional Adi top with Mahogany back and sides. Jeremy, just want to say I appreciate your sticking to who you are and what you value in letting this one go. That's some discipline brother.

This is the best sounding ( or best recorded) Martin I've ever heard!
She's purdy for sure... and you can't beat that Martin sound !
Great find !!!
Jeremy, I think this one will very soon end up in the one that got away category. It sounds very, very good - special. The things you ding it for seem really superficial. It is beautiful. @@syntaxlost9239 D/F# is definitely unplayable unless you had Goliath sized fingers.
This guitar would be perfect for me, I love everything about it. I play a Lowden O25c with 1 ⅞ and have no issue thumb over the top.
This guitar reminds of the 1960s listening to the folk recording artists like Peter, Paul and Mary hearing the warm tones of their instruments but knowing it is a steel stringed instrument. Not that Weird- but sure is beautiful. It sounds lush. Martin has ventured around with tone woods for few Decades.

Beautiful guitar with a beautiful sound! I had no idea Martin ever made anything like it.
Oh my goodness that guitar sounds amazing. Size is deceptive. Love it.

CEDAR AND WALNUT, I GUESSED RIGHT AND I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT
That guitar sounds amazing. You should keep it.
Reaching the end of the video... J.... keep it!!! It is grand!!!!!
One of the best sounding guitars I've ever heard!!

Nothing weird about this one Jeremy! I love cedar tops!!!

Wow! What a guitar and sound! Great video and explanation of it!
Great choice. Sounds Superb. Well done.
Interesting you spec'd a wider nut width. Furch will do a six-string with a 48mm nut as standard; good for men with fat fingers. Never sure how guys manage with a 43mm nut.
My Furchs have 45mm nuts, which is perfect for me.
Lowden style woods there. Pretty cool.
Jeremy you can’t sell this guitar it sounds unbelievable.
That neck is so wide I thought it was a 7string at first.
Ah!, the heel cap works IMO the Low E string seems like it needs to sit deeper into the nut. I would have liked a Red Cedar and Redwood or Cocobolo. yeah , cedar top with walnut back and sides , if you didn't say it was martin , absolutely no one would guess
I understand your reticence in keeping it but it would be my choice--just sure it's out of my price range. It's a beauty! Even the 1-13/16 but width is appealing.
Sounds sort of like my former Martin Ceo 6 black LTD Editon
That is one truly beautiful guitar! It is very close to what I have been seeing. I suppose one could get over the gold tuners, I don't see that well anyway.
I am fascinated with the norman blake ooo 28 12 frett slotted headstock om body shaped guitar. Not 000 12 ftett rounded shoulders, but the shoulders and lower bout of a 000 28 or 000 18. I have a Furch Cedar/Claro Walnut Rainbow that is similarly awesome!!! Love this guitar!!!
Intro and title: I bought a Martin custom shop
Midway through: I didn't buy this
Come on Jeremy 😆
Hahah. I technically owned it for 3 days.
Shows that we dont need to cut down endangered Exotic spices to make a beautiful sounding guitar.
Walnut is so under-rated. Early Martin's had cedar tops and necks.
Much better background, the fast color change was a bit too much for my taste, what a sweet little thing, its not a boomy dread 4 sure, best sounding little guitar is your waterloo, hands down
Damn was hoping it was Cedar/Cherry. I’ve always wanted a Cedar Martin
The guitar is just gorgeous! Sounds amazing! What type of music do you play? It sounds beautiful as well.😁
Your playing is weird and unusually........... awesome
James Taylor favors a cedar top for its responsiveness
I’d trade my custom d28 for that guitar.
Love the tone.
Was it a true 12-fret? Meaning, did they lengthen the upper bout or move the neck/bridge down into the lower bout?
I’ve heard Martin just lengthens the upper bout, which does nothing for the sound.
It was a proper 12 fret. Not sure what you're referring to but this sounds way warmer and deeper with that extra bit of body length.
It looks weird, but sounds amazing!
I've watched your live videos, you sound reasonable smart.
Ah, I've never owned a Martin. Need to get one.
Do you still own the Taylor AD?
How many double espressos did you have right before you shot this?
Hahaha....Turn personality up to 120%
it sound really good and the front is pretty ... so ...
This guitar is amazing
I hunt for Yamaha guitars, I just bought an FG180 in almost perfect condition 1969 ! , I now possess 6 of them. Yamahas not FG180s
That guitar was made to be nylon string... just saying. Has all the spec for a spanish one
If that were the case it would have been braced for nylon string…
Thanks
I wouldn’t say weird. Unusual, highly. But thoughtfully configured. If you’re really wanting to sell it, why are you concentrating on its negatives. Are you creating a situation where you have no choice but to keep it?
You said the nut width is 1 13/16", which is much wider than 1 3/4"..........did you mean to say 1 15/16" ? Because 1 13/16 is only 1/16 away from 1 3/4, not that big a difference.
It feels really big.
1/16th makes a big difference. I prefer 1 3/4. Heck, I have a Gibson with a 1 23/32 nut and it feels skinny to me compared to my others.
Whats it worth 4k US?
What tuning are you playing in?
DADGAD
Oh my goodness
9:09 - hahahahaha
if only I could take a guitar with me everywhere to be that best person! I definitely try to bring it with most the time...also the guitar is absolutely a killer imho.
this might be one of your best videos yet Jeremy, the production value is extremely high
jeremy cs order.....oh, I'm assuming you'd go pretty traditional to a authentic 37 style dread or 000
Daanggg!!!
Your next Custom could be a Taylor 314ce.....haha jk....but that's all we have....we are good with it
That’s the same nut width as the Martin HD 28 TWELVE string… ugh 😩
So much room for activities!
Ooo, its the weird one
Good guitars Pal BUT they have always sounded too yhin for me. That's the square shoulder effect. I much prefer Gibsons slpoe shoulders. As a builder I notice that rounded shoulder on violins and othe string instruments. Your UA-cam vids sound like one big ad for Martin. I have made a dreadnought with herringbone from stewmac parts. I like the interior bracing= do you understand it? I have Taylor guitars that are asw good as the one I built in 2004.
Try some silk n steel strings on it :)
That's what it came with and I changed them. They sounded okay, a little thumpy.
Kind of a slot-head Lowden with gloss finish. Or something Santa Cruz would make -- period. Oh my. Meanwhile, I kind of know what would be one of your perfect guitars. And you can't have it. ;-)
I’ll trade my Taylor GT 811 plus cash for it!
If you ever want to giveaway a D35, Im your man...
Me too! I want to give away lots of guitars!
Don't sell it dude
Clickbait....you didn't buy it
I owned it for 3 days but didn't keep it, haha. Did buy it but returned.
I'll Venmo you $1k for that 000 right now.
It's a fair down payment. 😜
@@JeremySheppard What do you think it will sell for?
For me, sounds fabulous, looks awful
