I am hit with both. Worked in nonprofit until I was 47-then switched to a new career in teaching. Raised four children by myself (one is still now completely flown), and am very grateful for your work.

All the folks who've jumped into teaching jobs as a second career have no idea they've just jeopardized their entire Social Security retirement. And, if you don't stay in that state retirement system long enough to get vetted (different rules in each state), you'll lose that money they took out of your salary every month. Plus, those are years you're not paying into SS. It's a rigged system against teachers in more ways than one. There should be a national strike until teacher retirement is fixed across the board, and is transparent.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!! What can I do as a retired teacher with a pension I'm collecting currently and Social Security that I have not taken yet? I started teaching in my early 40's after working full-time for many years prior in the public sector and fully paying into Social Security. It is SO UNFAIR for my Social Security to be cut by 60% when I paid into it for years and years. I earned that! We earned that!

I've been working on this since the day I retired in 2021 and discovered my SS was to be cut 2/3 every month for the rest of my life. What should have been a happy day turned into shocked dismay. And although my husband fully paid into SS, I will be denied that and thrust into poverty is beyond the pale! We paid for all our school loans ourselves, taking turns going to grad school. Waited 10 years to save up to buy a house. I stayed home to raise our family since childcare has always been expensive. So, I really invested in his SS payments, by making it possible. Don't steal that when I will need it the most! How Congress could do this to the pillars of society is beyond comprehension. Don't forget: they will get to keep all their pensions they had before entering Congress. And when they leave, even only after 5 years, they walk away with taxpayers footing their retirement of 80% of their $175,000 salary forever (including politicians you like the least). The most I ever made was $70,000 for one year -- with multiple degrees and certifications.

HR 82 just passed…347 YEA votes! Now…S 597 needs a VOTE…to repeal: WEP and GOVERNMENT PENSION OFFSET….asap! Currently: 62 Co-Sponsors. . My deceased husband PAID IN....and I DON'T get ANY of his larger benefit! I taught Title 1 Reading to impoverished kids in MO. and KS. I need my SURVIVOR BENEFIT as a widow….right now!

It’s not even on the senate agenda yet.

Explain to me why you folks deserve a SS bend point of 90% while I get a 32% bend point. I’ll wait.
