I was happy to hear Carol Danvers seemed more likable in 'The Marvels'. In 'Captain Marvel', the title character is a narcissist; she's petty, mean, aggressive, emotionally unintelligent, doesn't seem to have a greater moral good, seems fixated on power, etc. If we invert all those characteristics she becomes much more appreciable. From the getgo, though, it doesn't help that Carol Danvers is kind of a famously messy, inconsistent character in terms of how she's handled. For example, she kind of developed her powers by being hit with MULTIPLE accidental waves of gamma radiation. Not multiple waves in one accident, but multiple accidents. And she had kind of a weird Tuxedo Mask thing going on where she didn't actually realize she was Ms. Marvel; it was like an alter ego that would take her over. Until one of the accidental radiation waves integrated her identity. She was actually most famous in the comics for two things: having her powers stolen by rogue and being raped by Immortus. She was always more of a B or C list character at best. The reason the big push for her character happened in recent years is because Marvel REALLY wants their own Wonder Woman.
