Country girls too- I learned to garden, can, and preserve food. Learned to knit, crochet and sew. We even had honey bees and made maple syrup. Growing up, it didn't feel weird, everyone there knew these things. I went hunting and fishing growing up. I know how to butcher and prepare these foods, and even preserve them. Never felt like learning, it was just part of life. I thought everyone knew these things growing up. It was just normal for me. Little did I know, I was actually blessed knowing these things.
I'm 69, lived in the foothills of Tennessee all my life, hunter, trapper, fisherman, wood crafter, mtn. stone harvester, building my 2nd log cabin as we speak. lost my right arm in the coal mines in 1986 and never asked anyone for anything but folks around here make sure their neighbors have plenty to eat and a warm place to live. Totally self dependent and lacking nothing. I love the woods, mountains and streams, it's my life.
Yeah I’m 49 and lived in the backwoods of Tennessee my entire life. My grandfather taught me how to grow crops and my father and uncles taught me how to fish and hunt.
I’m raised in the country as well! Mississippi country… I am a country woman and ain’t nothin’ I can’t bang, boom haha clean and cook it all!! I still live in Tennessee so life is good…
Growing up in Alabama this is a staple song that yells our story our way of life and I love it more the older I get . There's a bit of pride in being self sufficient and protective of our community. ❤ thanks for covering Hank "Bocephus " Williams jr. Alias Thunderhead Hawkins.
People form the Caribbean, especially smaller Caribbean islands have a lot of parallels to this song. I'm thinking of someone born and raised in one of the outlying islands of the Bahamas, and all they do is fish. There's no big cities anywhere close by. They have to take a boat trip to Nassau, which could take as much as a day, just to visit a big city. They can make their own boats, and fishing gear. They sometimes have to catch their water from the rain. It's even more remote than someone who lives in the hills of West Virginia. So yeah, I suppose you could relate.
I learned all this plus the lady things cooking, sewing, preserving. Being 1 of 4 girl's I also learned mechanics, cement, plumbing, house building, roofing. My hubby was from UK he used to tease me about how I liked being dirty. We had the best time changing headgaskets on our car.He said no UK girl would do it.He teased me about being right when car had issues.I was raised in the city but am country.
It's hard for me to imagine someone never having shine. My mama used to put it on our gums for sore teeth. Had my 1st true shot when I was probably 5. When you live in PA mountains it was just what it was.
I've found that abt 20-30 miles outside of your major cities we're all the same. "Country folks" are everywhere. The cities, where everyone is living on top of one another, is where you find the crazies. That's why many say America is a Red nation with abt 30 Blue cities...
Although Hank Williams Jr. never knew his father (he died very young), he certainly inherited his talent. A song that holds up just as well now as it did when it was first released. If you haven't heard Hank Williams Sr. "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" in a while, it's on y/t. Happy New Year & thanks for playing this one!
When he said we make our own whiskey...that's moonshine....when he said make our own wine...he meant wine...strawberry wine, watermelon, dandelion, peach ..etc
I'm so happy to live on my 150 acre farm in the middle of nowhere.. I hate a city.. and the only thing I truly miss is not being on the water.. I would love to be near a beach... i'm jealous of you.. but my hubby.. can't swim.. he doesn't like any kind of water except fishing on a pond.. He's an amazing mechanic and also a hunter.. my freezer is full of venison.. we just had some tonight for supper.. and we give a lot of venison away to family and friends and Eggs too... because we have our chickens.. and these little ladies are putting out way too many eggs for me and hubby to eat..
“Because you can’t starve us out and you can’t make us run!” ♥️🇺🇸♥️🇺🇸 I was raised in North(ern) California USA, and this song is absolute truth!! ♥️🇺🇸♥️🇺🇸
Another of the Outlaw Country GOAT’S! I like his song A Tear In My Beer. His father Hank Williams Sr. Passed away when Hank Jr was very young. A Tear In My Beer was hushed father’s song. Hank Jr redid the song without AI assistance to make it look like he and his father performed the song together. It was very special to him to finally get to sing with his father. ❤️🔥
Check out a song called “Country Boy, by Aaron Lewis (the studio recording). He mentions this song. George Jones and Charlie Daniels have parts in it. I saw him perform it in concert. So good!
Yes. I live in the same small ranching community I grew up in. Until around age 14 I never knew that there was any other way. And you only take from mother nature what you NEED.
You ever find yourself in the South. And you have a chance to partake in some apple pie moonshine. You take er easy now. It'll bite you faster than you expect. And tastes llike a pastry going down, making it double dangerous 😂
“We come from north California and south Alabam (southern Alabama) , and little towns all around this land” … Many people make the mistake of thinking “country boys/ folks” are all from the Deep South - that’s absolutely not accurate. I’m from Ohio (which could be considered Northeastern or Midwestern depending on who you talk to) but when I was growing up, I was definitely surrounded by folks who supplemented their meals (and some depended exclusively on) homegrown plants and hunted game. Deer Season was many guys’ favorite time of the year. Wild turkeys were not an uncommon sight, but those smart birds tended to go into deep hiding before hunters came out looking for Thanksgiving entrees hahaha! Teen boys would show up to school with hunting rifles in their cars and trucks, and nobody worried or even thought twice about it ! The local little store sold hunting and fishing licenses, bait worms, fishing gear (poles, line, reels), etc. When we moved here, much of the community were still farmers and dairymen for their main income, had extensive vegetable gardens near their houses to supply their own needs. One guy just up the road was a beekeeper and sold jars of honey from a table by the roadside. All this a mere 25 minute drive west of downtown Cincinnati ! (My town is smack dab on the border of Ohio and Indiana, with the border to Kentucky being the Ohio River about 10 miles due south) .
I love how we all get to know each other through cultural music. I just love you. Why don’t you introduce us to some local artist in your area? That would be nice to see. Or just make a video of your fishing or something. #creeksquad
Hank Jr. Fell off a mountain in 1975. He nearly died. He completely mangled his face and had to have his face reconstructed. He wears the beard and dark shades to hide his scars. His life has been very interesting to say the least. His music comes from 5hat place, you can tell.
Like the show down here in East Tennessee much love and respect Sir and remember if you don't know how to skin a buck or run a trout line better get to it this world is falling apart as we speak ❤
Tried shine once and and no thank you ma'am never again. My ancestors did make and bootleg it down in Tennessee, and family stories say they were good friends with the James gang.
1) Safe water, 2) fire, 3) safe, dry sleep, 4) food. If you have access to a bamboo grove? You can make ANYTHING out of bamboo. I've seen it!! (US Navy Veteran Westpac)
Hank doesn't live very far from me. This song is old but more relevant today than in the 80s. Definitely cool to hear you relate to us Tennessee boys. I see the same in Caribbean culture for sure.
Merry Christmas and I am excited for this and hope ya like it...... This is my kinda music that I grew up on and we live by here in good ole Indiana :) I will be 45 next year and have 2 grown boys who grew up with this lifestyle for the most part.
My brother in law has a connection to some of the best shine I've ever had. My husband's maker has some that is hot, but it's good. Trade a mess of beans and tomatoes that we grew for shine!! Now that's country!!
moonshine is trouble.has cool flavors like apple pie and frootloops and it goes down too easy.if you dont know what your messing with it will have you floored quick.
Hey, I'm a Texan and you have a few things wrong. Sure, shine is good, but many a good wine can be made at home. And yes Moonshine is legal to sell in America, you have to follow the same laws as brewing whiskey or beer. I wonder how old you were when this song first hit the airwaves. Lots of terrific music for you to meet. Keep on keeping on. I'm in my late 60's now, and can count on my hand how many music genres I do not like. Music is why God gave us ears, His voice speaks into our souls, but our ears hear the beauty of God's creation, be it on an instrument, vocal chords, or from earth itself. Happy new year from Texas, USA.
I wish I had a few more country talents. Machining and welding were not included in my science degrees, and I am a total amateur at each of those...But, I was raised in a small town, so I got a lot of the other "extras" as far as hunting, fishing, and making do. Peace, Love!!
First time checking out your channel. By your demeanor I believe you would welcome at any gathering held by country folks in the U.S. Beachnut is a brand of chewing tobacco in case that's not common knowledge in the U.K.
lol, we don't have moonshine in England because it is not legal. it is not legal in the US ether (may vary by state). Minnesota... Wine and beer can be manufactured in the home and for family use, without a license. It is a felony offense to manufacture distilled spirits by use of a still in a person's home.
I don`t think it could have been actual footage of his friend being killed. That would have been back in the 70s before there were such things as security cameras in stores. But as I understand it, the story is true. His friend really was murdered during a robbery, it wasn`t something that was just made up for the song.
All of these reaction videos all say the same thing when he talks about making wine. He's not talking about moonshine. If he was talking about moonshine he would say shine. He's talking about making wine from the various many berries that are abundant or you can grow. Get it

Country is very honest music. Bocephus is one of the most honest.
In america, country has best songwriters.

Should you ever happen to make it to southwest Florida, we'll enjoy some apple pie 'shine and enjoy life. There's nothing like it...🍻💓
I've drank moonshine.....peach flavor, & ate the peach at the bottom. 😵 Never eat the peach 😳🤣

As an Alabama girl, this song is facts. I can do all that 😂❤
I have access to moonshine. I live in Georgia.
Damn shame they wouldn't allow you to have what you need to have, never let them to allow you to have what you need?

wado for showing this wonderful music video. Would you please show this music video: Lynyrd Skynyrd ~ RED WHITE AND BLUE ~ LIVE @ FREEDOM HALL.
Do not recommend straight moonshine 😂 How, apple pie moonshine or another flavor can be exceptionally delicious. And dangerous 😂😂

The story about Hank Jr’s friend is real, the video footage is not.
