Comments in other videos, have said it’s it’s Apps being limited to 4.5GB atm , so when WWDC hits would expect them to drop updates that take advantage of the full 8/16 GB .
Love my 2018 12.9. With the Apple Pencil 2 and Magic Keyboard, it has become the most versatile device I’ve owned. Plus, design wise it looks identical to the M1 iPad Pro and the peripheral accessories are the same for both devices. Really goes to show how far ahead the 2018 iPad Pro was.

The 2018 iPad Pros are a great value now. I just picked one up from Apple's on-line refurbished site: 256GB, new battery, new aluminum case, 120Hz screen, four speakers, face ID, and full 1 year warranty for $599. For the same price I could have got a new M1 Air with 64GB memory, no face ID, and two speakers. I'm using it primarily for taking notes, outlining development projects, and reading technical documents. For the price it can't be beat.
Just got mine from my local pawn shop same model but used for 470 dollars tax included! Oh happy day!🤗👍

Yes like you, my 2018 12.9 ipad pro still so powerful device and work as new. If there is huge upgrade for the operating system then maybe i'll sell current device and buy the new one. But mostly I will stay with my 2018 iPad pro

Ditto. I got my 11" 2018 for a great price as an Apple refurb just when the 2020 came. It's a great tablet for what I use it for and the benefits of upgrading would be minimal. I'm sure I would feel the same way if I had the 12.9".
2018 ipad pro still a beast.
But most of 2018 android tables and mobiles can’t even walk. Today i test pubg mobile on note 20 ultra 5g cant even run game on 60fps all the time wtf. But 2018 ipad pro 90fps all the time.
Internet speed is low in ipad pro 2018 😭 ping flucktuates very much but ping is so good in my oneplus
I've been holding onto my iPad Air 2, but bit sluggish for multitasking and normal usage. Until I got the M1 11" iPad Pro 2 months ago... it changed my life for good :)

I bought my used 2018 iPad Pro 11 last summer. I love love love it. I have no intentions of upgrading yet.
I don’t have the magic keyboard. I just have a keyboard folio and an Bluetooth mouse. The pencil is great too.
The only issue is that I still need a MacBook. So I bought a base MacBook Air M1 based on your reviews. It’s fantastic.

The best way I could explain to someone the new XDR display vs. The old models was taking my old iPhone 6s and having it side by side to my iPhone 12 OLED display. That way they could see how the blacks varied.

Actually the 2017 iPad Pro also already had 120 Hertz. So it wasn‘t exactly the first time in the 2018 model. ;-)

Thanks for doing a "real world" performance test. Most focus on benchmarks. I can stay, as a 2021 M1 12.9" owner, iOS 15 didn't add much to use the extra power or size. I guess I should be grateful Apple included a charger these days.
I'm using the 12.9" M1 iPad Pro right now, it’s the first iPad Pro I’ve gotten, and will for at least 4 more years for school, I absolutely love it & don't actually see blooming. I'm still using the iPhone 7, so Ill probably be using this till atleast 2025, only will upgrade if I have loads of money, which I almost def wont, even then I'm not sure if upgrade unless its a huge update.

As an iPad main, what are your biggest pain points with iPadOS14? Maybe you can do a video on that.
See I will tell you mine, There are not a quite a lot of features to utilise the larger screen like split screen can be improved to deal with more than three applications, The file explorer system can be much improved like its macOS counterpart. it does not utilise the lidar scanner for photography as of now which it should. Then they should also add more touch and shake support on Apple Pencil as it currently has only double tap to change the tool feature. those are the main pain points but there are a lot more with the application system. For installing applications iPadOS is exactly same as iOS which means you cannot download any heavy software to utilise that raw hardware M1 or even A12 X or A12Z for that matter
The LCD display on the 11 inch is calibrated well enough to make it look really good. Coming from an OLED display fan, I do not notice the grayness on the iPad Pro most of the time. Mostly because I don’t use it in low light situations. It’s not an issue for me.

the brighter screen is only notable with the hdr content, if you check in the comparison corner of the apple store online and you compare these two models, you can see that the peak of brightness is the same for both excepted for the hdr content
Is the battery performance better (lasts longer) for the same workload with the M1?

I have got the new M1 iPad Pro. It is great and the screen improvements are apparent comparing to the 2018, although that is still good, and really only in photo/video color grading is the difference of significance (at last the contrast is as good as the iPhone Pro). One thing important to me is the screen of the M1 is noticeably brighter outside in the sun. I do wonder if the LumaFusion export is software capped which is why that is not showing faster with the M1. In which case a software update will allow its full potential.

Just realized there is a matte screen protector on the 11 2018 model, it would affect the intensity of the display color and content..

The 2017 iPad Pro 10.5 had the same screen as the 2018 models with 120hz true tone etc etc
Saw a video were the reviewer came to the same conclusion with as you as with regards to the blooming issues and he also showed how his old iPhone 5 did not show the blooming issue while his 11 pro did. Looking at that persons 2018 model compared to the 2021 you could clearly see that the 2018 model had just as much blooming as the 2021 model but that it was less visible do to the lower contrast between light and dark.

@@heemaism 11. Was going for the 12.9, but it's to big. Have a Mac Air for homework and watch movies on my 65 oled screen. The iPad is more for casual things and when I'm on a train or airplane. And then size matters more than the excellent screen.
I was yearning for a better display but the mini led has its issues. I would get it if it was an oled or micro led with no blooming issues
The speed up has nothing to do with thunderbolt. It’s the CPU that sped it up. I don’t think thunderbolt is fully working yet. I have a hub and I’m not getting full speed on an external drive.
Good stuff as always. This blooming thing. Does anyone actually use their iPad at full brightness? You practically need sunscreen.
DUDE RIGHT!!! people are freaking out about this, which is sort of understandable. but in everyday use it doesn't happen. because when are you ever in a pitch black room with brightness at 100%.... no one does that

Hey Fernando! Nice video! I bought an M1 iPad Pro 11” w/256 GB, which I received last Friday afternoon. I’m still deciding if it’s right for me. If a MacBook Pro 14” M1X is announced at WWDC, I’ll likely preorder one. But first, I’ll need to return the iPad Pro in 8 more days. 🙁 Oh well, I’ll probably get an iPad later down the road once I recover financially.
haha thats the main issue. if you want to return it then you gotta return it before WWDC. then if you want to re-order then its a 6 week wait lol

I don't why you never mentioned it, but I was continuously noticing how your mate screen protector didn't did much justice in the screen comprarison side by side with the M1 screen, not to disagree with your knowledge but is just that I know for sure a mate screen give more washed out blacks. Great video though, very different and uniquely informative! 🧏🏽♂️

The bleed in jarring for me, especially in your title shots on my M1. I’m gonna return it.
Returned mine because I couldn't unsee the blooming effect. Not worth the compromise for $1950. iPad, Keyboard & Pen.
M1 is much more powerful than A12x but the Ipad OS limits its capabilities that's what makes them similar, maybe it'll jump ahead in the future with better software but I doubt it cause these limitations are exactly the reason people would buy a Macbook instead of an Ipad. The only reason to get the new one imo would be the new display.
Refurbished 2018 11 iPad pro 64gb is $519 on Apple's site (when available). iPad pro 2021 11" 128gb is $749 on Amazon. That's not even half as much. I think 2021 is a better buy for the extra storage space, double the memory, and M1.

2018 iPad Pro was not the first 120 Hz display in Apple product. The 10.5-inch iPad Pro from 2017 WWDC was the first.

I know this video is not new so don't know if anyone will answer this but you touched on what im trying to figure out- multitasking and coming back to apps and having to "start over" vs picking up where you left off... is this the case with the M1 still or did that turn out to be random. I'm still on my 2018 and im happy with it except for that. If I go do something and come back to an app, I can't pick up where I left off in most cases... etc.
Thanks for watching! But I noticed a tangible difference in RAM management. My apps stoped rebooting. At least the apps I use in the same day. If you leave them there for a week they might reboot but overall I am very happy with the RAM upgrade.

I have the new m1 iPad Pro 12.9, and the bleed is terrible. I’m so used to oled that I didn’t know mini led is like this. I still wonder why they didn’t use the same panel as tab s7+
Im also using the M1 12.9" and i Don't see the bleeding/blooming as much as others seem to or I'm not bothered by it. Its genuinely not that bad

Nice comparison. I went for the M1 as I had the 2018 12.9 and wanted to go back to the 11". I figured I'll the most on my trade in now. Question...what do you categorize your videos as? Educational or Science & Technology or something else?
The port isn’t why it transferred quicker, it’s the internal storage speed.

I got an “open box” 11” iPad Pro 256gb WiFi + cellular for $807 ( I just found out it’s only 5 day old). I couldn’t be happier. But many people just buy the maxed out, newest spec, 12.9” 2TB WiFi + cellular, no matter what people say.
The person returned it probably went for the 12.9 inch lol but nice steal! the 256gb is the perfect sweet spot

I have both. You can’t go wrong with either IMHO. 2018 is still an excellent iPad. (Don’t tell my wife since I already justified the upgrade)
Time tests are pretty pointless right now. Apps aren’t optimized yet. Procreate defaults to 2GB ram because it doesn’t know what you have. I think once apps and the OS are updated you will start seeing big differences.
Is an excellent condition 2018 iPad Pro 256gb for $750 a good deal? Got one for that price. I’m coming from Mini 5 and still using a 7 Plus.

Apple official refurbished same model only WiFi version going for $710. Probably worth checking there as well.

If you read books at night then does the blooming affect you??
In my experience blooming isn’t much of an issue if most of the screen isn’t completely black. It’s really only an issue if you have most of the screen being completely black and just a small portion of it needing backlighting. The only place I’ve noticed it was in Twitter when in the completely black dark mode, and then only when I was going to reply to a tweet making most of the screen completely black. Then when I moved the pointer (using the Magic Keyboard trackpad) it had very obvious blooming. I haven’t encountered the issue when most of the screen is text or anything other than completely black.
100% agree with you here. its literally only when its super contrasty with black to white. And also only if you are in super max brightness in a dark environment. which most people dont do. If they are in a dark room, most people dont have their brightness set that high
the app open test is pretty bad considering you’re using shortcuts on the one
A 3 year old refurbished 2018 11" Pro with an A12 chip is roughly around 530 plus tax for 64GB. A new M1 128GB base model 11" is worth the extra $200, don't kid yourself.
I'm upgrading from an iPad Air 2 (64GB) and I am super excited to get the 11" M1 2021 iPad Pro hopefully soon (at least 512GB or 1TB, not quite sure yet). Wouldn't know what I would be missing out on because I've never had an iPad Pro before (2020, 2018 or otherwise) but I'm assuming that upgrading from an iPad Air 2 would be like comparing apples to oranges (for lack of a better term, and that's a good thing too).
If you compare it in Minecraft the 2018 model has a max view of 32 chunks and loads them with the spaxbd craft texture pack very slow and the new m1 ipad has a max viewing distance of 51 chunks and renders the new blocks instantly!!!! its crazyyy!!!!

I‘ve got the ipad pro 2020 and I am definitely not upgrading it until 2026/2027. ipads last forever. Even my ipad air from 2013 is still kinda usable

Definitely hoping they make some good changes to the iPad OS to make it more the 'laptop replacement' it should be. I love my 2020 model but even for my lighter use case scenarios I can't do what I need to on it. iPad Photoshop is awful-- I need the full scale version even for the simpler stuff since a lot of features I use aren't on the mobile version. Of course that's more on Adobe than Apple but hopefully what new changes it'll make Adobe actually push their mobile version to be truly pro.
I also code and use the terminal a lot but I'm not holding my breath that Apple will throw a bone for anything coding related lol.
There's also a lot of small stuff and limitations about iPad that can bug me at times, so fingers crossed it all gets completely redone. Atm I just use it mostly of watching videos and light sketching work. If I really want to go hardcore painting I wind up on my Mac. Not even Procreate is enough with it's disappointing lack of 'magic wand' selection feature.
Still, I love how I can attach it to my Magic Keyboard, or change cases and bluetooth keyboards/mouse to give a different look/feel/use case. I find it fun but I just feel I can't get the full use out of it due to the OS!!
Besides that?? Looking to see if there's even a hint of the M1X Mac Mini!

Apple never revealed those numbers or confirmed them. With this 2021 Pro it is the first time ever Apple showed the ram size
