He says he is on Testosterone Replacement Therapy, but he says on normal levels of test. Says he needed it after a rugby injury caused trauma to one of his testicles, and that he is at normal levels with TRT. Firstly I'm sceptical of what he says. Secondly, how the hell does he know what would be normal for him unless he had a blood test when he was at normal levels pre-injury? There's a HUGE range to normal here. Thirdly, so many UA-cam fitness influencers who are on TRT are definitely on the highest they can get prescribed because they want to get jacked. However they they keep an eye on their diet and workout properly. Unlike this guy. Anyone that wants to buy him a new Lamborghini should buy his $500 stretch bands and metal stick and plate. I am 61 and I look younger than John Jaquish. I lift weights, do CrossFit, run ultra marathons and do Spartan races. I really didn't like his age comment about being 46. I would have not problem on taking him on in any sport and hand his ass on a platter. My joints are perfectly fine, in fact in my estimation humans are built to run, primal humans had to run down their food, and in some parts of the world humans still run down an animal until exhaustion, we cannot run faster but we can run longer. He talks about body builders with round faces, well has he looked in the mirror lately. He talks about isolated movements such as bench press and shoulder press, and triceps extensions, where exactly in life do you apply those movements? The human body is made to work on multi joint movements, so why not train your body the same way. I would put money on it that my fitness regime is better than his and when I'm 70 I can still hand his ass on a platter.

There comes a point when yet another interview with a person with a view which contradicts people's actual experience with resistance training is one interview too many. This guy is just nuts - I'm sorry - but most of what he saying is nonsense and my own experiences as a 65 year old contradicts everything he's saying. Why Gabrielle invited this guy on given that she MUST have known his views during the research stage of her podcast preparation is beyond me. I'm not saying live forever in a bubble and ignore certain views. I'm saying you have a responsibility to your community of followers to present views and opinions and advice which match your own experiences as a Doctor and advisor - especially to the older segments of the population. This health space is becoming way too crowded for my liking and I'm not surprised people are turning off after being confused and overwhelmed with the wildly contradictory views of a litany so-called experts doing the rounds on YT. Enough already. Stick to the KISS principle - keep it simple. Your job is to bring the essentials to those who need it - not talk to people who basically contradict everything you have worked hard to interpret and filter for the rest of us struggling to make sense of it all.

I wasted four months of training using the X3. I was not impressed with my results. My arms appeared smaller and I wasn't happy with how I was looking. When I went back to lifting weights I had demonstrably lost strength across the board.
I stuck it out for just over four months because I wanted to give the system a legitimate test run to see if it could live up the marketing claims. I hoped that it would, but for me it ultimately didn't. I eventually threw in the towel on the X3 and and went back to lifting weights. I probably got better results in one month of weight training than in the previous 3+ months that I had committed to the X3 so in a way they got the "3x better" part sort of correct only in reverse as I’ve personally found that my weight training results were 3x better than they were when using the X3.
The X3 has been out for 4 years now. If it legitimately built muscle 3x faster than weight training as claimed then we should be seeing countless examples of guys who put on 50lbs.+ of solid muscle over that time (as Jaquish claims to have done) and yet we clearly haven't seen that.

Agreed, and same here. I was/am am an advanced lifter and used it during covid as a means to supplement the gym. I found the workout itself was great and the gains were solid. After a little while (perhaps 4-5 months), the gains stopped. I do think it could serve value in a pinch and/or for those who are more casual with lifting, but it wasn't it for me

@@gregz1235 I could see the X3 being of value to someone who travels a lot or who has limited time and space. A beginner will probably find the abbreviated program and limited time investment appealing.
I'm also not a novice to exercise and my diet and never been cleaner. I followed the X3 workout to the letter. I wanted it to work as advertised (who wouldn't want to gain muscle 3x more efficiently?). It simply isn't better than lifting weights and no way is it 3x better as claimed.

Variable resistance using bands, where the weight is light at the bottom where you are weakest but heavy at full extension, is the best way to lift without risking injury.

No offense but the argument made here about tendons and 'outliers' have so many flaws i just have to question them. First issue: if someone's tendon were attached at the end of the humerus instead of the beginning, they would have to apply significantly less torque and muscular force to move the same amount of weight, so there muscle would actually be smaller not larger. Second issue: he claims the tendon takes a greater share of the resistance in these people but even if that were true, then once again the muscle is not working that hard and shouldn't be growing as a result. third problem with the tendons is he fails to mention that muscles are far more elastic than tendons. Tendons are the rope muscles pull on and its the muscle that is working majority of elasticity. The more elastic the tendon, the less force you can produce, not the other way around.
As if this weren't bad enough he starts talking about genetic outliers in the NFL and the fact that they build muscle much faster than your average person. But apparently this doctor has turned a blind eye to the rampant steroid, hgh, and performance enhancer use in both professional and college level sports. You can't compare them to the average lifter unless you also give average lifter the same steroids and growth hormones. Before these pharmaceuticals came out, notice how no single person looked like these "genetic outliers". So either genetic outliers somehow only exist nowdays, or the real thing outlying here is their use of pharmaceutical testosterones.
Why are the most muscular guys in the world training their butts off with weights? Because lifting gave them massive progress. Man there are so many issues with this i have to conclude this is snake oil

    2. See Bill de Simone’s books, such as Joint Friendly Fitness. Jaquish is very confused on the difference between mechanical leverage and the strength curve of a muscle.
    3. According to the sliding filament model, which all physiologists accept, hypertrophy has nothing to do with the range of motion being exercised. Isometrics work just as well, in any position.

I tore a ligament in my shoulder when I was young and it didn't catch up to me until much later. I think most young people are lifting too heavy for their ligaments. If you are going to lift heavy, make sure to strengthen your surrounding ligaments also. Sleep is also important for muscle growth.💚🤙

I completely agree. I used to be a runner and used to lift a lot of equipment at work. Now my body is destroyed. I had to have shoulder surgery and I have so many joint pain issues to my body now and I spent hours lifting weights and running back then. I would run 8 miles a day on the weekend and ran on the treadmill during the week. I overdid it to my body severely. I’m almost 50 now and trying to fix all the damage, or at least help slow it down.

    • @alan2a1l
      @alan2a1l Рік тому

All good! I would just add, though, that "lifting heavy" is different with bands than with weights. The initial part of the lift, the weakest point, is where the damage can most often occur and that's where that lift is "too heavy" & you can tear ligaments. With bands, you start easier at the weak point, increasing to the max strength point. It's much harder to overload, because you simply won't be able to reach full extension. I'm sure you can damage yourself if you work at it with bands, but it's much safer, as long as you're sticking with good form. And there's less tendency to to lose good form near failure, because you're just reaching less extension (or contraction, for pulling exercises), not sacrificing form to get one more rep. You're not throwing weights around. It's smooth.

@@peachhipgirl75 Yep! The quantum leap in value for bands has been the latest generation of bands, X3 and a few others, with well-graded sizes from light to really heavy and the improved materials quality.
And the X3 base plate & bar are very high quality and allow you to do exercises that you can't do well without the base plate, in particular. Especially squats, deadlifts, and overhead presses. You don't want to use a heavy band held down by your feet; you could screw up your feet. And the bar keeps your hands safe. I tried several systems and the solid bar and base plate allow me to do a complete max resistance workout without injury.

Noticed this channel recently, after seeing several interesting interviews. Was glad to see another science based channel. Then sow some dubious person on channel (+ clickbait vid title with ppl saying nothing practical for 1.5 hrs), but ughm, ok... And now this dude...
For me there are so much red flags for this "Phd": antivaxxer, fake PhD, steroid user (while claiming getting result due to variable resistance training), etc... But even those aside - extraordinary claims requires extraordinary proofs. Have checked only a few of them, but none of them support his claim that training with bands stimulates 3x muscle grows as resistance training...
"Resistance training is waste of time! Fruits are bad! Cardio eats muscle!", etc. "Better buy my overpriced bands and carbohydrate glycemic index reducers!" What a bs... Ofc too much of fruits are bad. But it then should be really "too" much. Exceeding your calories restriction limits. As would be fats and proteins... Ofc cardio "eats" muscle, but again if you do tons of cardio and skip resistance training. 30mins of cardio will not kill your muscle...
Aaaaand resistance training... "only genetic outliers see results in gym".... Yeah, seems any gym I went full of genetic outliers... Ok, it is anecdotal evidence. But tons of research on profit of resistance training for muscle grows? - "Researchers filter out participant so only outliers are left"... Even thousands of researches on untrained men? Seems like conspiracy.
Variable resistance training isn't bad, on the contrary, it is pretty useful, but not another magic bullet. It has its own advantages&disadvantages. But seems claim that it will gives better results by doing only 10mins of exercise than hrs of resistance training far from being proven (hope I'am wrong - who wouldn't like to spend much less time to get greater results?). And variable r training wasn't invented by this guy, only his overpriced brand of bands...
"I don't insult ppl personally" - yeah only by groups...
"Nobody questions u like u question urself - No, nobody, nobody could come even close - .. You are pretty humble - When ppl call me a genius"…
Some fast googling on this guy and his product:
    outlift.com/x3-bar-review/
    ua-cam.com/video/3tQvUOp9dzQ/v-deo.htmlsi=FTC-KRwMFGFnnSCH
    ua-cam.com/video/2CYQpy0-xFA/v-deo.html&
Ok, I do understand if you give a place to show another point of view, but at least ask them uncomfortable questions, argue with them, not just "You are so right", " Defintly so", "Ugh yeap". Only once went against guest's point of view on "fruits are bad" thesis...
My thought: it is ok to give a platform to argue, find truth, ask questions, but not ok to give a platform to another seems to be charlatan (for me) person to indirectly advertise his product by doing unproven claims. Successful, but still charlatan...

Writing a book called "Weightlifting is a Complete Waste Of Time" is a click bait title that opens up a very large can of worms. So, apparently what he is saying is that the Champion's like Sandow, Charles Atlas, Vince Gironda, Dave Draper, Steve Reeves, John Grimick, Frank Zane, Bill Pearl, Brad Harris, Gordon Scott, and quite a few other's wasted their time in the weight room? And would have made their strength and fitness goals, including for some, bodybuilding contests and titles, using rubber bands? That is laughable. And besides how laughable it is, the claim that "weightlifting is a complete waste of time" HE HAS NEVER PROVED THAT! And the claim runs against a whole history of bodybuilding and physician culture. Oh, and by the way, the people I mentioned were not on TRT.

Variable resistance is awesome ... But no elastic band can actually match every muscle's maximal force development curve.

There is an interesting phenomena with people who lift weights but do not put on muscle and that is they are not tensing the muscle as they perform the rep. This creates less growth and less mind muscle connection.

a shame you're giving this scammer a bigger audience, shilling his overpriced rubber bands and his mail order degree mill nonsense isn't something I'd expected to see here

@@joshuarogalski3540 Some people don’t realize that if they make false allegations against a product or someone’s character without material facts then it’s libel and slander. I personally haven’t used the product but I would never allege something that isn’t factual about someone else. How long have you used the product? I was thinking about this product because there are numerous people who use the gym who injure themselves.
