Inexpensive No spear round bale moving & feeding for sheep & goats to dramatically reduce waste

In this video I show the round bale skids/sleighs I made that gets the hay up off the ground and makes it easy to pull or push to where you want it in the video I am moving a 1100+lb bale I also show the best/easiest method I have found yet to reduce/almost eliminate waste feeding hay directly off a round bale.

I try to buy my rounds in the summer before it rains on them. i store them on pallets and cover tarp. Cannot believe how farmers leave them on the ground in rain sopping up the water. Mold not good for ruminants. Your feed way still waste bunches of hay. They pull it out on the ground and contaminate it so they not eat. I put one bale on its end on pallets, remove net or string wrap, then easily go around and peel away the bale layers as I need. I load into large plastic containers and take to indoor feeders. Much less expensive than buying square bales. Tarp and rope keeps the used round dry and fresh.

That is kind of what I do now other than I put them on these skids which keeps them up off the ground even better than pallets. Then I just cover the top 1/3 to half or so with tarp so that air can still hit all around/under them and dry them out. Then when I am ready to use one I Just push it into the sheep yard right on the skid and put the cattle panel around it and remove the twine or net wrap. Since I started doing them this way I have very little loss maybe 1/8 of a bale compared to before it would be at least a quarter per bale if not more, and also they stay very dry with the way I have been tarping them.

For smaller rounds a standard 16 foot cattle panel works for the bigger ones I had to add on a small section maybe 4 feet and I have been using galvanized C shackles to connect panels together quickly for gates etc there cheap and strong.

I can't remember the dimensions on the biggest ones but know they weighed 1500+

Thanks yah I’ve got the biggest round bales 5’ by 6’ over 1500 pounds. To add this 4’ u used C shackles or just to tighten the 2 ends together. I would think you’d have to weld the 4’ on to make it 20’
