Same here! I love that we get to know about other cultures in the world! I had not heard about Sami people before the Netflix series. I think these people that live so up north with such extreme weather have such fantastic traditions rooted to nature. I admire the people that live like them - for example the Inuit in Canada and Greendland - , and now I know about the Sami people of Sapmi. Hi from Uruguay! South America.

One of those are a strong culture of survial despite hardships and respecting nature the other is one of raping pillaging and killing and then having a drink with your rapist friends.
This video made me happy and sad at the same time. I hate that these people have to fight to be recognized. As an indigenous myself I relate to Sami people and their fight to keep their culture alive. I would love to know if there's any brand or restaurant to go to to have a taste of their beautiful culture.

The Sami People in Scandinavia have been very good integrated in domesticating rendeers. The same could be teached to the Inuits much more efficient than hunting (In Greenland it is fishing!). And thereby the capital gained by fishing and rendeers is good for national economy.
That is often a problem with indigens forgetting their talents of nature, of phytopharmacy to use it to make the best of all: money!
The right way to make money is to use the different talents to strengthen national economy. And in that respect the natives are very important, even to the army and to protect against foreign agents coming over not-settled territories.
The Sami reindeer culture only survives because of heavy subsidisation by the state, and this is also a source of tension between reindeer owning Sami - and other groups like non-herding Samis (not all Samis historically dealt with herding) , Tornedalingar (another historical group in the area) and Kvens (yet another historical group)

I am a quarter sami, and i live in america! My "swedish" great-grand parents are actualy from Finland
This is nearly the same recipe as my family who's been in the Americas for generations and his type of bread called Gáhkku has been made by the Sami people of northern Scandinavia / Sweden for nearly centuries. Just look up Sami people Sweden Gáhkku bread. Sami people can be traced back to 4000 years. Note: If you don't have yeast on hand, you can also use sourdough starter or even equal amount of baking powder. My family stretch the bread a bit before laying it into a griddle. You can also wrap the bread around a stick or metal rod and cook it over a camp fire. Good video.

As someone from upstate NY. No. No it's not. We get a lot of snow but temperatures like that are few and far between. Occasionally we hit the minus 20s, but it's usually few and far between when it happens and it only lasts for brief periods of time.
Europe is actually much further north than the US is. Upstate NY is basically the same latitude as norther Spain/Italy/Greece and Southern France. Barcelona and NYC are at the same latitude.
Berlin is basically Edmonton, Alberta. The Scandinavian countries are the northern Canadian territories/Alaska. The Gulf Stream combined with the extremely long coastal areas of Europe just happen to make the continent unusually "warm" in the winter and somewhat cooler in the summer, (arctic summers in other areas like Asia can get shockingly warm).
Of course Climate Change is now messing with all this, so wild temperature swings are becoming more common in Europe.
@@MikeBenko buy in 2018 you remember when it got to below 30 and sometimes below 50? And with the windchill, it would be almost below 70…. I remember having to start my car at 5:30 AM to be at work by 6:45 just to have it warm enough.

Sami have as much to do with Inuits as Mongolians or Chinese. Just because 2 people live in the Arctic circle doesn't mean they're related
Not linguistically, or in any genetics that can be traced. The feeling is that if we are somehow related to the Inuit, it is from a common ancestor so far back it can't be traced.
