Cervantes‘ Geschichte von Don Quixote, dem Kämpfer wider die Windmühlen - heute aktueller denn je - ist nicht nur ein wichtiger Bestandteil der Weltliteratur, sondern auch Titel eines der berühmtesten Ballette des klassischen Repertoires, obgleich sich das Stück auf nur wenige Abschnitte der Buchvorlage bezieht. Nacho Duato hat seinen Landsmann Víctor Ullate mit der Erarbeitung einer neuen Fassung beauftragt, weil gerade er die Finessen spanischer Elemente im klassischen Bewegungskanon umzusetzen weiß. Mit Spannung dürfen das Publikum und die Tänzerinnen und Tänzer auf diese Interpretation blicken, die viele der schönsten Partien des klassischen Balletts bereithält, im Besonderen auch auf die Liebesgeschichte zwischen Kitri und ihrem Basil eingeht und dabei spanisches Flair verbreitet.

Cervantes’ tale of Don Quixote, tilter at windmills, - as relevant today as ever - is known as a key work of world literature; but it is also the title of one of the most famous classical ballets, even though the piece depicts only a few of the episodes contained in the novel. Nacho Duato commissioned his compatriot Víctor Ullate to compose a new version because he’s especially qualified to capture the nuances of Spanish elements in the classical movement vocabulary. Audiences and the dancers themselves can look forward to this interpretation with bated breath as it features many of the loveliest roles in classical ballet, dwells in particular on the love story between Kitri and Basilio and exudes Spanish atmosphere.
