"Can't fool me, I'm such a smart guy!" [*literal seconds later*] "Oh no, I've released the balls! Look at 'em all!" Never change, Jared. Never change.😂
So, you take the elevator down to Ridley, and I guess the developers expected you to give up really quickly and go back up, where you then find the hole the bug dug, go down, and fight the guy a second time, unlocking super missiles in the process, like Jared did. _My_ first playthrough however, I didn’t give up and go back up the elevator. I went to the room on the right, and eventually went through a tiny destructible block in the ceiling, which was not easy to get through, then accessed the rest of the zone that way. I found a bunch of super missiles, fought Ridley, then only when I left did I see the bug hole and I figured out what the intended method was.
I mean, going back is pretty obvious. You come to a dead end with a super missile door, which tells you that you've missed the super missiles somewhere. So you go back to try finding where you might've missed them. So expecting the player to come to the obvious conclusion isn't that farfetched.
22:35 Lol, your neighbors were even providing their own sound effects, it sounds like! XD Meanwhile, I love Zero Mission's environmental storytelling, especially with the Kiru Giru, where the larva that was ensnared by the Tangle Vines (i.e. the one from the previous episode) recovered from parasitism and began burrowing in to Ridley's Lair to pupate in to Imago...yes, that bee boss (side note, can't believe you resisted the urge to shout "BEEEEES!!" XD) you fought is called "Imago", which is REALLY funny if you know anything about insect biology, seeing as that's the name of the Adult stage of an insect's metamorphosis and in Latin translates to "image".
@@Nicholas_Steel They are referred to officially through development data as parasites. Their behavior is indicative more of parasitism, in spite of sources claiming them to be carnivorous, and I think the confusion lies in them technically being considered a Facultative Parasite: a type of parasitic organism that does not necessarily NEED a host organism to live and can find their food source from other sources (case & point, many species of fungi feasting off of dead matter when their host has expired). Interestingly, those little purple bug thingies feast on the Tangle Vines' Fruits, those impregnable purple orb things wrapped in gold vines (yes, parasites can parasitize parasites...it's...kinda scary... O.o)
@@Nicholas_Steel Tangle Vines are referred to through development data as parasitic; they have more in common with Facultative Parasites - parasitic organisms that do not expressly require a living food source - than carnivores. Metroid games just tend to use their sci-fi setting to take the body horror to a more logical extreme (that E-rating is a lie XD).
One nice thing about MZM is the amount of sequence breaking that's possible... I'm pretty sure there isn't quite as much as SM but that's mostly due to experience on the dev's part lol
I remember playing this game on hard as a kid back then and got stuck on Ridley for weeks until one morning before school I finally beat him. It's way harder on hard since you get less health and missiles and take more damage. You actually have to be dodging his moves instead of tanking them.
Thanksgiving with MZM feels like times of old. Like around the time it was new. MZM is my favorite Metroid game and this is making me want to break it out and play it again.
4:18 ... Yes you can ... 4:46 - Well... that´s another way to get Super Missiles... Interesting how he was getting along eventhough that was not the proper way... He will see eventually (but won´t remember to have been in a situation of beeing lost once more...). Besides... I actually never thought about that, this gives some new opportunities for sequencebreaking the other way around I guess? I allways went the hidden path in that room with the bugthingies where Jared refilled his ammo and energy and have gotten the Super Missile in Brinstar with the afore mentioned Shinespark trick... Well thanks Jared...
I wish Ridley had a horrific death similar to the Crocomire, whose flesh melted off its bones. Like maybe Samus gets a missile in his mouth and it blows his head off, leaving behind a grisly corpse.
Does... he think he can't multi-wall jump off the same wall? That was only a limitation in Fusion which explicitly prevents you from quickly turning around when wall jumping.
That Ridleyfight was kinda chaotic, but effectively fast. Wayt how fast you could have defeated him, if you´d gotten the early supermissiles and wouldn´t have missed some hidden on your way. Tip as well for those who don´t thought to do that yet: At the start of the fight against Ridley, just mash the hell out of the shoot button to avoid early fireambush, once he stops go under him and - you know the drill of fighting him... BUT OH BOY, he´s hair pulling tough in hard mode especially when you do the minimum run [YIKES]
Does bring up a good point. What is the lore for missile storage expansions being hidden everywhere? Someone has to be doing it in this universe and the Chozo aren't doing it everywhere.
Hey, didn't I hear that this game had you starting out as Zero Suit Samus and you had to get the suit at the beginning before you'd be properly in 'metroid 1' ? Like that's why it was called zero mission? and like... i think it debuted the zero suit? someone help.
That part is in the Game, just not at the *beginning* as you've already seen. Instead it's at the point where the original Metroid 1 *ended*, so it doesn't lead INTO "Metroid 1 proper", it leads OUT of it into entirely new Content afterwards.
So, why is the game even called Metroid? It's not a bad name on its own, but there hasn't been even a hint of a metroid yet and we're 7 half-hour-ish parts in!
When I was a kid I played the NES version and I thought that Metroid = Samus (the main character). (I was, however, disabused of this notion fairly quickly.) (Don't know if I ever thought that Zelda = Link. Can't remember.)
The inciting incident of most of the metroid games is caused in some way by the metroids. That and nintendo called the first one metroid (probably for the reason above) and it just stuck as the series name
I swear, there's nothing more immersive than playing an atmospheric 2D Metroid!
Can confirm, that boss battle is indeed like chasing a toddler to get them to put their pants on.
"Can't fool me, I'm such a smart guy!"
[*literal seconds later*]
"Oh no, I've released the balls! Look at 'em all!"
Never change, Jared. Never change.😂
"A lot of modern Metroid games put in random recharge stations for convenience."
You mean like the Chozo statues strewn about in this game?
Jared getting Screw Attack makes me happy

Accidentally the alt route that lets you finish Ridley zone without backtracking

I don't think parasitism is correct, the vines themselves are carnivorous and you free it from them.

I never knew I was still into watching Let's Plays but it's been interesting with metroid zero mission and final fantasy VI T Edition.
One nice thing about MZM is the amount of sequence breaking that's possible... I'm pretty sure there isn't quite as much as SM but that's mostly due to experience on the dev's part lol
7:20 "Oh, I knocked his ass off" LOL
Samus' best friend; Missiles
Link's best friend; 10 arrows
This has been so much fun to watch. I don't know how much more there is, but it sounds like not too much. Looking forward to seeing how it ends!
from what I remember, if you're not going for 100% completion, Ridley is about halfway through the game, but definitely not more.
I remember playing this game on hard as a kid back then and got stuck on Ridley for weeks until one morning before school I finally beat him. It's way harder on hard since you get less health and missiles and take more damage. You actually have to be dodging his moves instead of tanking them.
Man Ridley such a wimp in this game. Gets a cutscene and everything and then dies faster then a random worm you fight at the start of the game.
Compared to Ridley in Fusion, this one is a pushover 😕
@@AustinMcKayGaming Throughout the entire series, Fusion has probably the most difficult version of Ridley.
He is actually hard in hard mode.
@@LuccianoBartolini Yeah in Hard Mode he is a significantly greater threat. Same is true for most of the bosses, Kraid remains a push over though.
There’s something charming about having to slowly replenish your health and missiles.
goin down down down *howfarcanyougo,* you might fall into *theforbiddenzone* HEY!

I am playing the original Metroid at the moment and many places in Ridley's lair look kind of familiar.
5:12 that actually scared me lol
I wish Ridley had a horrific death similar to the Crocomire, whose flesh melted off its bones. Like maybe Samus gets a missile in his mouth and it blows his head off, leaving behind a grisly corpse.
10 and a halfish in the balls wanted revenge for what you just did to their friend lol
Man, Ridley died like a B I T C H
You forgot the "Jared looks around for a second before saying it" emojis. ;)
Does... he think he can't multi-wall jump off the same wall? That was only a limitation in Fusion which explicitly prevents you from quickly turning around when wall jumping.
a ton of progress in this episode. You gained like 40 missiles
Ridley's alarm went on because of a home invader
Good progress indeed, it was just a breeze of an episode 😅✌🏼

I indeed liked this one!
Wait... Ridley has a ship?
I really wanna play this now, but I wanna play FF6 T edition some more
Hey, phrasing
Does bring up a good point. What is the lore for missile storage expansions being hidden everywhere? Someone has to be doing it in this universe and the Chozo aren't doing it everywhere.
since when Samus have a best friend
Can you charge your beam then go morph ball to lay a bunch of bombs?
Also, can't you jump off the drop blocks if you jump the frame you touch down?

They're more a key to green doors than damage in ZM

Not on low% runs... ._.
