I bet your neighbors LOVE you, man ...... Bless your cottonpicken heart... In my hum-bowl opinion the 1973-74 HONDA "ELSINORE" CR-250A. The most beautiful purpose built Moto-Cross machine of ALL TIME. And it still is.
Honda did a great thing with the "Elsinore", they named and marketed their 2 stroke engine (they were famous for 4 stroke engines before). Kinda like what Dodge does with the Hemi (is that a hemi in it?). People always ask "Is that an elsinore?" when it comes to older hondas (even though you just need to ask, is it a 2 stroke honda?) They dropped the name in 83, but all 2 stroke hondas are still elsinore designs to this day. Great marketing.
Is the ultimate weapon..? Certainly was in '74. And man- didn't it wheelie when it hit the powerband!! (which started at about 9,500rpm!) I traded my TS185 for one when they hit the shops in '74. Still had to get to work so I rode it side-saddle quietly (!!) along the footpath really early. Good to see one going again thanks. Keep up the good work!
My first MotoCross bike was the cr125m Elsinore. I just loved it, sound, looks and that powerband. Never raced it ,just bush bashed!!.I race old Alfa's now. Anyway thanks for the memories
I owned a 73 TM125 and then a 74 CR125, there was NO comparison. The TM was heavy and slow. The 74 YZ125 was a slightly tricker version of the MX125. The Honda was a feather with 21 HP. I will never forget my first ride, the bike was pure magic. It proved to be very brittle over time but it was a race bike after all. If you were not racing an Elsinore in 74, you were getting smoked by them. 1975 was another matter........
man i am very imprssed with my new honda elsinore (1975 mt 125 m1) i think these bikes were the best for a long time in its day, mine still starts first kick and runs great! nice vids i subscibed!
Older hondas are good bikes, I have owned a 1976 CR 250, 1979 CR125 and a 1979 CR250 (currently own a 1986 CR500). I wouldn't say they revolutionized motorcross, I would say they just allowed Honda to compete in Motorcross.
Well, Marty was a beast of a rider, and I'm sure he came to get used to the Honda's quirks as did any rider to their particular bike. When Adolf Weil rode the very bike that Heikki Mikkola won the world championship on, he pronounced it nearly unridable. But I'm still struggling to see what makes the CR125 special. From what I gather, it wasn't all that different from the Suzuki offering of the day, either. I think it really got the attention it did because people just liked the Honda brand.
I love how it just pops up on you, its just so fitting for the bike. I learnt to ride on a 74 cr125, if your not on your game the whole time it will just pop up or throw you off. Awesome machine these bikes are
Man, riding your Elsinore up and down your street without a silencer on your expansion chamber! You're probably a very popular guys on your block, aren't you?! :-) All kidding aside, I remember the 1st year the Elsinore was in production. Man, NOTHING was like it! The 250's power was just insane. I remember all the power slides I used to do on my friend's. Nice collection. Enjoy 'em! I know you will!
When your engine's got a name no one really knows wtf it means or anything, just "it's named, must be better than ones not named". That's why I call it some great marketing because I had a many elsinores and people would always ask if it was an elsinore (as if honda made 2 models of all their CR's, an elsinore model and a non-elsinore model, i.e., they had no idea wtf Elsinore meant).
I race in a historic catergory here in Australia. You can view a lap of Mount Panorama from my incar by typing in you tube "alfa gtv meets the mountain" my car is No 116. You can also see footage taken from a Ferrari 308 while racing closely with my car by typing into you tube " ferrari 308gtb Bathurst part 2" . I hope you enjoy the ride. By the way , I love the sound of your Elsinore Regards
@Silvergreenelsinore they knew long before you jumped off, we used to have two guys on a bike and when the cops came by the passenger would jump off and push as I turned off the engine. We were so smart back then, but now 35 years later its obvious they knew from just the distance we covered, 8 miles in say 22 minutes lol. I juess we figured they could only pull us over if we were seen riding and not pushing. boy we had a ball riding our 80cc cycles.
Wait... exactly HOW was the Elsinore actually revolutionary? I mean, it's not as if a 250 Elsinore is better than a 250 Maico of the same year. After all, '74 was the year they introduced forward-mounted shocks and started the long-travel revolution. The '74 Maico was a true innovator. Just look at the forks on that "revolutionary suspension system." They're years behind the Maico forks! And while Honda was dealing with a piston-port 125, Maico had the rotary-valve, even better than reeds.
what do you mean to old..I lived that bike..I would go CRANKING in the blueberry field in Michigan after school with my friends Scott and robin..dam I miss those days..elsnore bultaco can am..yz ts rm. Yea buddy..oh yes and Columbian gold..lol and bandaids
Almost lost it on the wheelie pal, I hope youre not racing!!??? lol!!! Sorry, Elsies arent the ultimate weapon of choice...while I do like them and have a 75 CR125 myself....the YZ put an end to the Elsinore and did for some time!! Nice bikes you have!!!

That is so funny!!! I had the "side-saddle" thing down to an art form back in the day on my way to our favorite riding place!
