hi Gav... looks like you got some really cool books... your figures look great ... i like how you explain everything about them ...thx 4 sharing... vinny
I'm doing an M48A3 on the side at the moment and I am having a very rewarding time watching and reading all things Vietnam. My best acquisition was the 10DVD box set on Vietnam that is on PBS. Fantastic documentary. Luv what you are doing with the figures. Great to see. Take care my friend and speak soon
Thanks Bob bits out of my ever growing terrain pots are used on everything . Last night i was using some on a 2mm Roman villa complex time team would have been proud of what i learnt watching them ! Regards Gav.
I REALLY think that the basing and 'ruins/debris' on these USMC absolutely SCREAM Hue during Tet,'68!!! (Again, such details add context and realism... It doesn't take away from the mini, but just suggests the envioronment...) You've got the balance just right! Of course, Hue City was an Ancient Historical City and this is why the M48s, Ontos, Dusters, Arty, Airstrikes weren't as fully employed as they might have been? The 'Higher Ups' insisted that damage to the city should be kept to a minimum... Frankly, a bit rough if you're on the ground getting your arse shot off!!! HEAVY ORDINANCE was often what the US forces in VietNam relied on to level the playing field. In Hue, that wasn't really an option as the battle progressed. (That said, several buildings were partially/totally destroyed so USMC fighting among ruins is historically accurate....) But Stalingrad or Berlin it wasn't!!! (Again, you've got the balance right....) I really like the fact that you've given us a look at some of the books/resources that help you in your research. (Or even to just get 'A Feel' for how it was on the ground? It helps those of us who might want to 'get into' the period... One last point? Though not a 'Gamer' myself, in the main, (and finished minis like these are REALLY almost 'mini-dioramas') I THINK you could place them in more or less any kind of VietNam scenario without too much hassle from the PURISTS!!!! Even in 'The Boonies' stone and concrete structures existed, and, lets face it, most had been bombed to bejayzus for 25 years so RUINS would exist, even in remote areas. I like ALL YOUR POSTS but I'm always especially interested, (as I know YOU are!) when it's VietNam stuff!!! You capture the period most perfectly. xx SF
Thanks Steve i hope to have more painted up soon although last night i was attempting to build a roman villa in 2mm and as we know Rome wasn't built in a day marra ! Regards Gav.
Hi Gav, those figures were absolutely outstanding, don't know how you can paint so small but congratulations on the grest effort, that was also a great selection of reference books, I grew upnduring that period but was a little toonyoung to understand what it was all about, New Zealand had troops over there as did Australia, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
Cheers Les don't worry at some point New Zealand and Australia will be making an appearance i was a volunteer at the Army Museum of Western Australia for a couple of years and spoke to a few nam vets . Regards Gav.
