I’ve watched both of your “Lost Racetracks of Georgia “! And I must say you have put together two masterpieces of capturing the nostalgia, the excitement, and the memories revisited by many race fans and competitors and those who made it all happen. My only wish is that you might continue this series …. Lots of states left ! Thanks again !!
Wow, I never knew how much of a connection and impact that accident had on racetracks across the state. My dad's sister, my aunt that I never got to meet, was one of the spectators who died in that accident. It's insane how that one accident caused a ripple effect across all forms of racing.
Such great work! I'd love to learn more about the former tracks near my neighborhood (south Fulton county) namely: Ted Edward's Skyport Speedway (former airstrip & 1st permanent dragstrip in GA recently demolished for warehouses, near Fairburn & Palmetto that had a small oval dirt track near the hangars, and a very long road coarse through the woods), Holiday Downs (large dirt oval a block down Hwy 29, built in a failed effort to entice lawmakers to legalize horse racing in GA, later popularized as a motorcycle and motocross track, finally hosting horseback camps for disabled people & several concerts/raves/festivals), Dixie Lakes Kennell Club (massive dog track that was part of a large resort complex in Union City where the baseball field and park are now, opened in the late 1920s but was forced to close almost immediately thereafter when lawmakers hurridly passed new laws banning all dog/horse racing in GA) and Seven Flags Speedway near Douglasville. Research has been impossible to find for these tracks. Keep up the great work!
@@hartmanscott here's a curveball: there was once a very popular dog racing track (right behind Bruce Hill's old NASCAR shop) in Union City in the 1920s & 1930s that was shuttered due to some dirty statewide & citywide politics of the time. It's now a walking park and a baseball field but was once a water park, Grand 2 story hotel, pavilion, 9 hole golf course and vacation cottage community. It's not auto racing but there was also Holiday Downs horse track (with an equally rocky history with lawmakers) right next to where Ted Edwards Sky Port Speedway was. And you had 7 Flags Speedway just over the Douglas County line.
@@hartmanscott I'm glad to hear about the history of BC other than the locals around town. Great work and thank you for sharing the history of Banks County
It's a crying shame at the race tracks across georgia that have been closed for different reasons. Athens, lanier, gresham. I know the last two are paved but race tracks none the less. I was at the 2015 reunion and it was pretty great to be there. Would love to go there again for another reunion if they have them. There was a Tommy Irvin that was the georgia ag commissioner, but was this one in the same or were there 2 different Tommy Irvins?
I would have a tractor going an have they put back like it was an let people come practice an breakin new engines i would have to have some kinda racing going on to keep the sound echoing off them trees an leave all the historic building just like they are! Promise i would have it set up to be used just for the old heros memories!!! Beautiful property

@@MatthewLewisAtlanta Very interesting
Would love to visit this old place.
This is great, hopefully you have more planned.
I was raised in Banks County and I remember my grandpa telling me stories about the track and races and brawls
That's really cool. Glad your grandpa shared those stories with you. Thanks for checking out our show!

@@hartmanscott have you checked the old track on Hwy 211...I know where it is.
A great story and a History lesson.
Nice Video
Wish I could hit the like button multiple times !
Nice story, hope there is a future there. From the UK where 99% of our tracks are built on.
Y’all should do sanction lawn mower racing there !

I believe the ag commissioner (Tommy) was actually Tommie Irvin's cousin.

Hi there. If you mean make a show, we actually did Athens for our first show. You can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/geVHYI7E2Yo/v-deo.html
