60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' on the 'Welsh Marches Express' - Wednesday 10th May 2023

Recently painted after overhaul and running-in, 'A4' class number 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' hauls Saphos Trains' first 'Welsh Marches Express' of the season, seen here at Ponthir on the outward journey to Shrewsbury.
Filmed on a compact camera, so is a bit shaky at the beginning, but I wanted to record SNG's return in Blue to the mainline for the first time in 8 years.

I’ve never really been much of an A4 fan, but when I see them on the mainline, I kind of get why people love them.

Cross the occupation crossing on Station road, follow the path alongside the railway towards Cwmbran, eventually there’s a foot crossing over the railway again, turn left here and walk a narrow path against a bush between the railway and neighbouring property and end up at a field which has a footpath running through, this video was taken from the end of the field nearer Cwmbran.

Why is there a diesel loco on the back?

The diesel is on the back to provide power for the generator for the kitchen and air conditioning in the three Mk2 carriages in the rake. It also helps turn the train around at Shrewsbury. It can also be a rescue loco if required. As can be seen in the video, it is idling.
