You need 2 ,You find 1,you need 3 you find 2,you need 4 you find 3,same way here drives me little nuts sometimes! But I do admire your mechanical skills on these old Deere. I'd put a good dose of fuel conditioner in it,got to help!
A project in my book a project X400 is worth $750-2500 depending on condition. There are intangibles like attachments and condition that are hard to quantify without seeing the actual unit in person.

sounds like it's running on 1 lung
there is a sall rubber hose in the fuel sender unit. it tends to crack and cause poor fueling
I've seen a bad fuel filter do the exact same thing
How much is a project x400 series’s worth per say

On fuel injected machines does it use a coolant temp sensor to help control with fueling? For like cold starts and operating temp?
I owned one of these, I think there is a semi long "spacer" ( metal tube) on the air cleaner shaft that holds down the inside filter.
You think maybe its not getting enough rail pressure to the injectors ? Maybe also injector tips clogged ?
first thing I would do is check fuel pressure.
Put some additives in the tank with fuel I bet it will clean it up
The new fuel nowadays clogs up your injectors makes a lot of trouble on all your fuel system
IT'S ALIVE !!!
