Best Kids show ever. I always looked forward to Esmerelda's laugh. It's nice to see the old clips and say " Oh Yeah, I remember that" Even as a kid I could see how it was ad-libbed. That's what made it so great.Always looked forward to the next morning to watch a new episode.. R.I.P. J. P. Patches.
I've got a few tears in my eyes as I'm writing this: a few tears of laughter, and a few of sadness. We moved from New York City to Seattle in '58 when I was five. JP was my other parent, twice a day. I watched him before school ... and then again after school. Watching this little clip this morning, I can see a lot of Woody Allen and Mel Brooks and especially "Laugh-In" in JP's loveable schtick. Lord, how I (and millions of others) miss him. God bless you, Chris ❤
I will never forget sitting in front of my grammas tv set and watching J.P. Patches early in the morning. It brings back very warm memories of when Grammy was still alive and all I had to worry about was what hot lunch would be at school that day...Good times, Good times...💞
These two guys were my second set of parents when I was growing up. The positive morals of the entire Pacific Northwest were shaped by these men and I can't imagine a world without them. Thank you Chris Wedes and Bob Newman !
I always planted myself in front of my tv when JP Patches looked into the ICU TV set in hope JP would see me and say hello. Scarred me for life that he didn't, but I still love him.
Brings back memories. When I was a tiny guy I remember being I believe at the Tacoma mall he picked me up and danced around. Thank you for the nostalgia.
I wonder how many kids these two kept from making that wrong turn in life - kept them on the right path, off drugs, in school & later out of jail or worse because of the golden mixture of comedy, love & subtle guidance they provided all those years. probably in the thousands, certainly in the hundreds. Two bona fide heroes, there...
Great memories. I'm so glad that JP still lives on UA-cam. JP made such an impression 100,000s of children over the life of the show, including me. JP (Chris) did a great job; not many people can bring such joy to the lives of the masses as he did. He is greatly missed. We are glad that he came to the Pacific Northwest and made it his home. Thanks JP and Gertrude for the childhood memories.
I grew up with this & I think it must have been one of the first shows to ever make use of sound drops or audio bytes...sound bytes dropped in ironically be it in or out of context... it's standard in radio & comedy nowadays, but in the 1970's I can't think of anyone else doing it...the pacific northwest will always lead the way...
Carmen Dragon was named after Carmen Dragon, the conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, many years earlier. His son, Daryl Dragon, was the "Captain" of Captain & Tennile.
Went on J p patches tv show when I was 6 yrs old because my Girl Scout troop sold allot of cookies and the grand prize was a chance to be on his show! I was the star of my neighborhood! I watched twice a days for many years!! It’s funnier now that I am allot older!! The Seattle city dump was his home.
Gorst the Friendly frpl lives in the Secret Place, & the only time he ever screams is when he sees Gertrude's face! Gorst the friendly frpl, his armpits are his mouth, & you only see that fodder when it's finished goiing South!-O Gorst the friendly frpl, his fodder is his life, & when he's out w/out a doubt he'll take a trip 2 FIFE!
I hope he was aware of what he meant to so many children in the Northwest. And not just kids. My dad would laugh at some of it because he "got" some of the stuff that went over a little kids head. He was a Northwest TREASURE. He was there before school and again when you got home. One thing I'd love to know from other Patches Pals. (I'm 62 yo btw) Did you think of J.P. as a clown? I never did. He was just our friend J.P. (I've always disliked clowns. They're nkt funny, just creepy!....imo)

Happy Birthday, Julius Pierpont Patches. Your Patches Pals sure miss you.
Great memories from my childhood.
Bozo The Clown, Wallace & Ladmo, Sesame Street, Romper Room....NONE of them can compare with J.P. Patches. HILARIOUS!!!
I was on romperroom in 1963
JP will live on forever on UA-cam!!!!!!!!!
I watched jp in the 60s... Does anyone remember the "I see you too" tv ??
Absolutely! He said my name on the ICU2TV on my 7th birthday!
Had my B-Day called out. I've never recovered.
Yes I certainly remember that and I remember the sound that was played too LOL Thanks for the memory lane.
Yes and viner von brown and his rocket ship
It's sad that almost every episode of this show was erased or never recorded on videotape to begin with.
Patches Pals unite!!! RIP Chris Wedes

Bob Newman trying to read Henny Penny LOL
I see Boris S. Wort voted twice.
Bob Newman is alive and well and turned 85 on January 24, 2017!
And 87 on January 24, 2019!
And 88 as of January 2020🎉
What a grand pair of men...
Careful, Bob. This Henny Penny story could get very adult quickly. 🤣🤣🤣

What year is this one from?
I was a patches pal
I remember JP patches used to get his Bigfoot in the garbage can and he used to get his self stuck in that garbage can
PNW people love this guy. Our children's programming in L.A. was far more structured and education based.
To Bad kids aren't as inasent as the 60s. And 70s
There is ABSOLUTELY NO INNOCENCE IN THIS DAY AND AGE...SOOO SAD !!!
ahh-hee-hee!
Omg.
