    Thats my opinion so its totally subjective but i think its a bit too fast... wath its beautifull with nocturnes of Chopin is the bel canto style... and Chopin put so much things into it and if you play it too fast you cant play with all of that and his singing style. I dont say its really bad playing, i just says its not my favorite and yes Yundi li is a very very good pianist no doubt on that...

      A profound level of understanding Chopin`s nocturne is his nocturne is NOT all for relaxing and romantic. Chopin`s nocturne has deep and rich emotion as well as tension. this Op48 No1 is one of the nocturne extremely express Chopin`s sorrow, love , and hate like his Ballade. Most people treat Chopin not fairly enough because they just can not understand him.

    • @gtubetaiwan
      @gtubetaiwan 7 років тому +1

      Hi SKubric, I absolutely agree with you and in addition to the rich emotion of sorrow, love and hate, this Op. 48 No. 1 also has a reflection components among the tension of the above complex emotions. Because of that, I completely agree with Etienne Delaunois that I prefer this piece to be played a bit slower than Yundi played. A slower speed allows that reflectionary emotion to sink in and to truly feel the sorrow, the love, and maybe the hate, deeply embedded in the melody.

    Not everyone has the "entertainment value" factored into their essence.
    It takes quite a person to strike a solid and heavy balance.
    Not saying I know who "Lang Lang" is, nor do I care.
    But I'll safely assume this is the case, as is typical of human life.

    A fine performance until the "doppio movimento" section which is taken WAY too fast! This is a nocturne, not an etude - and "Doppio movimento" means "double substance, not double time. This is a failing of many younger artists. Compare this interpretation with that of Maria Joao Pires which is magical!

    Yundi Li is on a different level than Lang Lang. It takes quite a pianist to win the Chopin competition. Lang Lang has done no such thing. Lang Lang lacks musical maturity.

    • @s.c.1494

      I appreciate both Yundi Li and Lang Lang. There are indeed very different but unique in their own right. At first glance Lang Lang seems to just bang the piano but upon more listening he does play with thoughtout musicality, and his performance brings a sense of spirited excitement. Yundi Li on the other hand seems more delicate and restrained and his performance brings out a sublime lyricism. Both no doubt possess virtuosic technique and I guess it's up to individual preference whom one likes.
      As to winning a major international piano competition yes it is an honor and does say something about the winner in term of piano virtuosity. But it doesn't mean that a pianist who does not win (or participate in the case of Lang Lang and Yuja Wang) a major competition is "less" in some way. As the matter of fact a lot of the renowned pianists did not win a major piano competition and many of those who won over the years did not become well known concertizing pianists.

    • @chickenman9059
      @chickenman9059 2 роки тому

      Lang Lang didn’t win the Chopin competition because he wasn’t even allowed to compete. Neither was Yuja Wang. They were so good that Gary Graffman didn’t allow them to waste their time with it. Because he knew their talent shouldn’t be wasted down to just being known as winners of the Chopin competition. He knew their careers could go farther beyond the competitions fame limitations and would you look. Lang Lang and Yuja Wang are far more internationally popular then Yundi Li. (No slack to him) he’s also great. Just not comparable to Lang Lang and Yuja.

      normally Yundi plays on the Hamburg Steinway, however, you can see by the square cheeks that this is a NY Steinway. I always like to say that any piano is only as good as its technician. I don't think the recording setup sounds very good, either. :(
