I bought the original Ooma gray box that came out in 2009 (back when there were zero fees). It paid about $119 and it's still working. There were issues with the service first year, but it has been smooth sailing since then. Just doing some research since I"m ordering one for my mom today for Mother's Day. It was much simpler when there was only one model to choose from.
I bought a cheap NUU N10 smart phone with android 14 to use as an emergency mobile phone with my ooma telo cord type. I hope I can get it to work with their mobile app. I was wondering if I could search the web with the mobile app?
Great video, I have one ordered just like yours I’m curious as to what is the phone line for is it for ?these phones ? or do I plug the phone line into my wall ? Or for a different brand of telephone? Thank you
Great video. I have the 1st Ooma and want to get the air 2 one. If I get the one with the two handsets, that doesn’t impact connecting my current phone directly to the box right? I just want to make sure all my phones would still work.
This guy is learning as he goes. He didn't even notice the giant red sticker saying not to connect the power before trying to activate the device, which was why he got the connection problem on the first attempt, he literally was not following the directions. I wouldn't go by his information but no you don't have to use the ooma phones. If you already have phones in the house you want to use I would get this through Amazon or something instead. You can use this with for example, VTech phones if you already have some or whatever phones you currently have. You can get the device you need cheaper by itself through Amazon without any unnecessary extra phones. You don't have to buy phones with this device. They just package phones with it and there's different ways to buy it. I don't know about using ooma phones with it AND existing phones. I think with that case you will have to pick one phone type or the other, not mix and match. If you already have a phone system you're currently using all you need is the device though which you can get for about 80 bucks on Amazon. Just connect the primary phone of your current setup to it and forget the Ooma phones entirely, also if you don't plan on using the Ooma phones and make sure you don't waste money buying phones you aren't using and by the device only by itself with no phones included. You already have phones so keep using those.
@@TorrentFiend10 Thank you, Thank you and thank you! I asked the on line chat and that said it shouldn't be a problem. But something is certainly a problem. I has one phone working from the old wired set that was meant for Ooma system as well, and now I can't even get that working. I didn't see a red sticker either, but I will unplug everything except internet and router and see if I can register it.
You don't have to get the ooma phones no...... I think they just sell those for people who don't have any phones to start with. You can plug any regular phone into this and it will work. I have a VTech setup of five phones around the house and it works great with ooma. Just plug in the primary phone from your current setup to the Uma and then it should ring the rest of the phones around your home the way it normally works.
Honestly you might have a harder time finding this in store without the phones though. The device itself is $80 on Amazon which is all you need if you already have phones you are currently using and don't want to replace them. For example Costco has this but they sell it with phones for like a hundred or 120 bucks instead of $80 for just the device itself. If you don't need the phones I would buy it from Amazon or something and save a few bucks. It's not necessary to use ooma phones for basic service or common features like caller ID. Some of the additional features for higher cost plans the ooma sets might be better but if you just want the cheapest basic service possible your current phones will work fine.
Any landline phone will work I have the Panasonic 2 line corded/cordless I have the ooma telo air 2 since my modem on the second floor and no option for Ethernet hookup I bought the ooma telo air 2 because used a obitalk 2182 and starting to shut there servers
How would this work with my home alarm which is connected to my current landline through a telco jack? I need that so that the alarm central can be called if the alarm goes off.
Yes and are subscribed to ooma premier then port is free but are basic plan then 39.99 one time fee but I recommend the ooma premier annual it about 131 total after tax but a lot other features such as spam protection enhanced caller id plus a instant second line which is useful have kids in the house that all use the same phone I use the Panasonic two line corded/cordless that ported over my google voice number that was used on my obi2182
Thanks for the video. I have a question. If I setup this device with my current home internet and have it working for a while then I change internet providers, I'm assuming all I need to do is connect to the new router and I should be good to go, correct? Thanks
If I’m for the fist time how do I use my current phone number to this device and how has it been working for you since you installed it thanks for your help
I ordered a Ooma Telo. The 2 phones were not included in the package so I purchased two Vtech phones that were supposed to be compatible with the Ooma. I successfully set up the Ooma, but the vtech phones (which are blue tooth) don't work. Shall I return them (Amazon) and purchase the phones that go with the Ooma base? Everyone said they are compatible with any wireless phone. Is it possible that I need a phone adapter or should I have purchased the Ooma that comes with the two phone? Any help is appreciated. Thanks for your video.

my wifi was wiped and I need to wirelessly put in the new ssid and pwd, that's the one thing this video doesn't show - how to connect to the device with bluetooth from the setup app after it's activated
Go to the app store and download Ooma Setup App. Unplug your ooma device and plug it back in, go to your app and click on configure Telo Air device. In there you should be able to type in your wifi and password to connect to your internet. Also be sure to turn on your bluetooth on your phone.
I'm guessing because you set it up through the app before connecting to your internet. Once it connects to the internet it can then connect to their servers to get updates the device needs and sync up with the account that has already been set up using the QR code or code that you already activated...... And simple terms it's probably more like creating a free account and then connecting the device to use that account. You have to activate the thing before it can be used, just like you have to first create an account before you can use that account.... This is probably why you just do it through the app on your phone first before plugging it in. Just to create it and get it established, then it has something to provide service to once it's activated on their system.

Yes

With the system there are two phone jacks. One could go to the phone and the other could go to fax or alarm.

So do I choose a phone number in the app? What part in the process do I add a new phone number? (I don't want to use our old one). Thanks!
Set up as a new number.

Yes you can.
Does the base re charge the batteries ?
Yes
Thus it comes with it own number?

Do you need high-speed internet to work
you will need a high-speed Internet connection equivalent to at least a typical DSL connection with 384 kbps upstream and downstream
so you can have the phones anywhere in the home..one phone doesn';t have to be connected direct to ooma device

When you activate your account they will give you a temporary number. i ported the number over through their website. It took a couple days.
