- President Macron's decision to call elections seems suicidal: the far right could form the next French government. But has the left got its act together - or is it all too late, and what about a vicious media smear campaign against them?

@@FishAndChipsDude Technical correction: 'The city will fall to the enemy', as in be taken into the control of the enemy. The usage is the same here and is appropriate. The verb 'to lurch' in this context refers to an internal swing one way or the other within a political entity. Always check before you pontificate. I guess you don’t have anything better to do!
This is what happens when a population gets angry on mass. You cant abuse yiur own populations and not see this sort of stuff. I think we'll see this all over europe
Marx called it the revenge of the working class. Global finance plays with fire, and we all get burnt.
Emmanuel Todd said : La France n'existe pas. In every sens, cultural, political economical. And we lost our soul by not intervening in Gaza and planning Olympic Games, which is indifference, and indifference is worse than Evil.
What has Gaza got to do with the French or the UK?

This could easily play out in the UK in the next election in 5 years’ time. The Tories as a party are unlikely to recover in a very long time, and Starmer’s Labour Party is just a continuation of Tory economic policies that have impoverished millions. That means that just like in France, there won’t be a “centrist” alternative for failed economic policies (LibDems do not really represent much of a change either), and the only place people can go to protest will probably be Reform.
And the hostility to the left from the media establishment is driven by the fact that the owners represent neoliberal interests. If they have to choose between supporting a left or right wing protest vote, given the far right for all it’s populism tends to support the interests of capital they will swallow their dislike of the far rights populism and support it.

At the moment with Macron still in power they are in the middle which is the problem with the left at the moment. There is no real progressive socialist party. Unfortunately France will probably vote the far right in. Unfortunately they offer very little. It's all wrapped up in racist rhetoric and very little substance.
