Your grip on the rod while using the thumb for drag is amazing to me ! Over here in Ontario, Canada we grab the rod ahead of the reel , rest the pinky finger on the back-plate & use the first finger for drag with the second finger curled around the reel-foot. Especially with Great Lakes tributaries for Salmon & Steelhead/migratory Rainbow Trout.
Well done Rab ... nice set-up & cracking fash tae (y) .. look forward to many more videoes . Cheers Vid p.s - watch what music you use, not all viewers will be able to watch them, especially on mobile devices. Happy New Year.
I am always puzzled why many anglers load the line so that it comes off the bottom of the reel. In my opinion taking the line off the top of the reel has many advantages. The line comes off the top of the reel and passes straight through the rod rings with the minimum friction, whilst if it comes off the bottom it meets the butt ring at a steep angle which must surely create friction. Also, when retreaving the line, if it comes off the top you can bat the bottom of the drum away from you with the palm of your hand which I feel is much easier and can be done with more powerful strokes (creating a faster retreave) than batting towards your body which is the alternative way.

What is this rod??
Hi could anyone tell me what centerpin reel that is thanks
the sheffield with a drag function.
Gregory Bingle hi mate its called the okuma trent it has a star drag function
which is basically the sheffield DR2 . different name for it in different countries
Louis Ng nope different model than the Sheffield
not a Sheffield with a drag the casing is is completely diffrent might have the same bearings tho
the trents the UK version of the sheffield DRII. how can it cast different when both the reels dimensions are exactly the same.
