US studios often wrecked films with their moronic cutting. Once Upon A Time In The West, (the best western ever made), was cut to pieces when it came to US market, which ruined the film. Once the original 2:45 version was shown the intense storyline made sense and showed Leone's brilliance
Great video. "There Was A Crooked Man" is one of my all-time favorite westerns, and I think very under-rated. The critics who didn't like it are full of crap. Kirk Douglas and Henry Fonda are superb, as is the rest of the cast like Burgess Meredith, Hume Cronyn, John Randolph, Warren Oates, etc. Great story and script by David Newman and Robert Benton, great directing by Joseph L. Mankiewicz,, great ensemble acting, and an all-around entertaining movie. I've seen it several times and would love to see it with the deleted scenes put back.
it is a great movie... funny they took out the actress nudity but left Kirk Douglas's bare as still in. the only movies I could compare it to would be the Trinity series of Italian westerns,, nothing that slap stick, but definitely not an ordinary western either
What is it about Redheads and Westerns or quasi Westerns BTW? Barbara Rhoades, Barbara Babcock, Maureen O'Hara, Rita Hayworth, Raquel Welch, Patricia Blair, Julie London, Amanda Blake, Ann Margret, and Rhonda Fleming just to name a few. Not that I'm fussing. At all!😂😍🎤💃🌹❤📺🎥B.W.
I saw this film on late night tv 30 years ago, and also was wondered if there were more footage Barbara's scenes. I was right...I would love to see a director's cut of Barbara Rhodes deleted scenes. She was a really beautiful woman.
Ive seen that movie to many times to count, seems like everything i find something new or have a diff feeling about it. Its a great movie. No nudity was needed.
When we’re all old and no one wants to look at us, she should be proud to have shown rest of us her true beauty filmed. It should be uncut and true to the director’s vision. No matter how ugly or beautiful we are, in the end it’s always the worms that will finish all of us.
"Directors Cut" should be released. Let the whole story be told. Honestly, I'm either way on the nudity. I'm talking about the story the director put together.
Still around and still knockout gorgeous from March of 1946. A truly great underappreciated Comic Actress who never could shake Stereotypical Casting.🤔😍🎤💃🌹❤📺🎥B.W.
Saw this in the theater at age 20 and thought it was one of the funniest movies I had ever seen! So enjoyable on many levels. It's so strange they chose to censor total female nudity but then showed total male nudity at a time when that was much more controversial. And gratuitous nudity was very widespread among films at that time.
Until now, I thought it was a "Spaghetti Western"! Haven't seen it, since the 70's! Great cast, but don't remember the plot, too well! Originally, in the theaters, I do believe that you did see some Barbara Rhodes' nudity!
I’ve seen this movie… I like the scene the way they left it…. It’s good to wonder what happened…. Ms Rhoades leaves the viewer wondering… maybe she’s into it…😁
When I saw it originally I always thought Henry Fonda's character was the Crooked Man and his ideas were just a con to try to get a big windfall from the prisoners somehow.
They were foolish they should’ve left the scene and they would’ve been just ahead of their time with what’s out there today and got to sell way more tickets by word-of-mouth.
I always liked her. I have seen her in other things such as tv shows. I never saw the movie. This is the first I am hearing of it but now I want to see it regardless. I never liked the John Wayne westerns but always watch the Clint Eastwood westerns and Tombstone. Yes. The US is a sexually and nudity repressed country. We will show violence no problem and it has become common place but when it comes to nudity and showing it it is like Frankenstein with the battering rams and torches. Barbara Rhoades is still alive.
Within this short clip you can see who IS perverted. We see a prisoner shot in the back and killed. But a nude person cannot be seen. "Make war, not love" is truly the hallmark of a sick society.
@brianegendorf2023: It was a total knockoff of "Magnum P.I." however Miss Pamela Hensley brought the hot sauce and then some to Her role of "C.J. Parsons" on ABC's "Matt Houston!" Of course We were able to see the comic Imperious Space Villainess side of Her on "Buck Rogers." Seriously imagine getting a gander at Miss Pamela Hensley (my favorite line of Hers was "Princesses don't start engines!"😂) and Miss Erin Gray on your Jobsite and THEN coming home (at least then) to Miss Connie Sellecca! There for awhile Gil Gerard lived the life.😂😍🎤💃❤🌹👨🚀👩🚀👸😈🛸📺B.W.
I think for the time, the film would of been roasted for the nudity. Though I am an admirer of beautiful nude women. I'm a sticker when it comes to story and I think the nudity wouldn't fit the story.

Beautiful lady. Deepest respect to her for having the courage to do that at that time
I’m 71 & I had never heard of this western until now. Does the film of Barbara still exist. I think it should be restored.

I agree, they should restore Barbara's scenes.
seeing as it mostly would sell to customers for home viewing for sure yes
I've seen it a couple of times, it's a classic. Same as the Ballad of Cable Hogue.

They should have left it in, if the story called for it, we are adults not perverts
speak for yourself.
I'm reminded of a MASH episode...when Trapper John said.."Klinger is not a pervert! I know, because I'M one, and he's never at any of the meetings!!"
There's always someone whose invisible sky friend doesn't like it though. Lots more of them back then.
@@CaptApple Invisible like gravity ? Because if it's invisible , it must not be there, right ?

I did summer stock theatre with Barbara in the mid 1960’s. I don't believe she ever received the acceptance she deserved.
One of my faves; the outfit Barbara wore in the 'Identity Crisis' (1975) episode of Columbo was eye-catching.
I still remember Barbara Rhoades from her starring role in the Don Knots movie "The Shakiest Gun in the West".
Director shot the scene for his own pleasure. Probably never thought it would be allowed in the movie.
Smart man 😊
The gs500, it’s 500cc’s which is a small to mid size
Ive seen that movie to many times to count, seems like everything i find something new or have a diff feeling about it. Its a great movie. No nudity was needed.
Barbara was a very beautiful woman . I would have loved to see her uncut in this. she was a guest star on alot of TV shows back in my youth.
Barbara Rhoades and Eileen O'Neil were both stunning.
I had forgotten about this western.
Barbara Rhoades was a gloriously beautiful woman.
Barbara was a true classic Hollywood beauty whose talents were squandered!!
I remember seeing it when it was released. One thing not mentioned was the sight of Kirk Douglas's bare behind in one scene.

Go to 04:30 for the Rhoades part you came to see.
This would've been had a place of honor in the "movie ENF scenes" collection if it hadn't been cut

She wasn't naked - she had a hat and garters on!
Thanks for the still shot of Ms. Rhoades (5:21) in her birthday suit followed by some admirers. Have to ask where did you find this?

We came in hopes of seeing the deleted scenes, you know its good if they even had to cut it out in 'anything goes' 70s hollywood.
one of my fav movies of all time.....!!!

I saw it at the theater in 70 or 71. It was ok but nothing special.
Then you really don't know film at all. I suppose you think Die Hard is great cinema.
Barbara is scenes in the movie should have stayed, it, would’ve made it even more iconic, a head of its time !!😊
Thanks for the ending spoiler (and lack of alert)
Spoilers? The film is 54 years old. Were you planning on seeing it this week?
@@larrysmith2638 never even heard of the film so definitely spoiled the ending for me if I chose to watch it.
If you don't want to see what's in a movie, don't watch a video about it.

Gran pelicula.

This was a great movie
Movie was on few weeks ago: But Sure didn't see any of her running. And Why the Hell mentioned it when yhey put " Stars" over her.
A rattle snake bites Kirk's face at the end. Oh 4:46 for Barbara Rhoades
Yeah, we missed out...:(
Saw this movie twice
Would have been nice if the narrator bothered to learn how to pronounce the director's name (Mankiewicz).
A forgettable Western.
No, seriously. What is the correct pronunciation of the director's last name? You seem to say it differently each time...

Surprised they cut the scene. There were LOTS of full nudity in movies in the 70's.
🦉🐯 Compare a scene in a movie telling a story, and then look at some TikTok content, you have to ask yourself, which has the moral high ground?
Well, damn...
He left out that it also costarred Alan Hale Jr. and Victor French
Victor French was mentioned.
Casey jones steaming and a rolling etc. memories.

There are two other nude scenes in the movie, but not with Barbara. One is the only known nudity of Pamela Hemsley (Ardala from Buck Rodgers).

Was she in Young Frankenstein? What great Knockers
Teri Garr. Passed away October 29. Not even 2 months ago. Sweet eternal rest to her.
@@rb1691 She was wonderful.

It was 1970 when nudity was in.
Director knew the scene would be cut. Just wanted to exploit a woman. Weak.
The film was not that good
The remake of 'There Was a Crooked Man' will be based on Joe Biden.
