And, I guess they don't have quack grass down south. Not sure what my strat is on that yet, mow low and over seed 5 times a year with KBG? Soil condition, add fert, aerate?
Great video Jason! The close up shots really help! I'm glad you identified the carpet grass which is exactly like a patch I have that I thought might be centipede. Would also help a lot if you mentioned the active ingredient in the herbicides and not just the trade name. You did in some but not all. Sometimes other products with the same ai can be found cheaper. I always shop by the ingredient list.
Good vid, here in the UK we refer to goosegrass as sticky willy.. it's proper name is Galium Aparine.. I kind of got confused when you said goosegrass and it looked nothing like what I was expecting lol
Thanks for putting this one up again Jason. I know you addressed this a year or so ago, but man I can't seem to kill my Dallis grass. MSMA being used too.
Pennsylvania resident here. I have none of what you had shown us. I do however have a Fescue the has turned into large clumps and is killing the Ken. Blue grass. Any suggestions? Thank you for the video.
I dont know the active ingredient but Image nutsedge killer for southern lawns kills goose grass, found out last year when applying it to my Bermuda grass to get rid of nutsedge. It didn't really control the nutsedge but killed all the goose grass so that made me happy.
That was awesome, but I live in Wisconsin and don't have most of those weed. Can you do a cool season one now? Lol. Have 1 bunch type grass that reminds me of poa annua because of so many seed heads, but it's darker green and way more seeds.
Hi Love your videos! We up north need a counter part to you! In Northeast Illinois, 2, 4-D will start turning goose grass to purple in 48 hours. Most any crabgrass herbicides will also kill goose grass in my experience.
I'd like your opinion, please. I bought a house in West Mobile in Oct of '19. The house/lawn is 10 years old. The lawn has never been "cared" for. Yesterday I counted 13 different weeds in the lawn. My house in Birmingham had Zoysia that looked like carpet. Do you feel this lawn could be saved or, should i kill it and start over? Thanks man...
Great video. Torpedo grass in St. Augustine? I've got a rapid infestation going. I've been able to control or eliminate most other weeds, but the torpedo grass came out of nowhere and is off to the races.
@@lawncarelife Thanks. This is my solution: (1) Roundup, (2) Roundup, (3) Rototiller (4) Pallet of sod. Its that bad. I enjoy your videos and expertise to DIYers like myself.
@@christopherschmidt3366 That is about all you can really do. I started getting my torpedo grass last year. It seems to have come in from from my neighbor to the north. Fortunately, I can at least control it with quinclorac. But it's not easy. When it's dying it sticks out like a sore thumb it's so ugly. Then I turn around and another crop will be coming up. Incredibly frustrating.
What is the grass that's growing everywhere around the weeds he's showing that has a darker shade of bluish green and short leaves that pop out all along the stem and lays across the ground and somewhat bushes up?? I have that in my turd fescue lawn and it is everywhere right now?
Exactly the question I need an answer to as well! I've tried expensive herbicide (Tenacity, etc) and it barely yellows it. The roots are crazy strong and it's taking over my lawn. Roots go across the lawn, but down deep too. It does die off after a few freezes, but comes back strong as soon as temps get above 80. Strangely can't find anything online that identifies this crap. Help!
It's what I dub myself as the devils grass. It's terrible grass. I don't see how anyone would want this anywhere near them. I renovated my lawn after 3 treatments of round up to kill it off and that's a month and a half in time. Every 2 weeks. It still had green in the root stem system of stolons and rhizomes. I use Ornamec 170. It doesn't kill it but it is systemic and does a fantastic job at suppressing it until I sow enough to thicken the lawn to keep it out. Even then. It can stay gone for a few years in the best lawns and reappear. I'll use round up on take overs and ornamec 170 on the new sprigs
Hi enjoy the videos. Question for you. I just dug up a bunch of dallisgrass, complete with the dirt ball underneath. does the root eventually die completely, so i can reuse all this dirt in the future?
I'm spraying Roundup on a 1200 sq ft section , kill everything, then will use prodiamine 1 week after that for pre-emergent. How long until I can transfer St. Augustine 4" plugs from front yard to the treated area? Will plugs survive if planted 1 month after all that ? (I might just do the roundup and wait 3-4 weeks and then transfer the grass plugs to treated area).....
hi,there. Could u tell me a way to control mimosa type weed in my lawn? They are very low, productive and in dark green with yellow flowers. When you touch them, they close their leaves. I use some chemical but they come back over an over again.
Pensacola Bahia is super nice and is similar to Bermuda. Just seeded my yard in Jacksonville, FL and It’s reel mower worthy. Not all Bahia varieties sucks. The non desirable Bahia is usually used in fields and pastures.
Will msma harm tttf. I've looked all over and can't find any results on this. Have a buddy in the biz, looking at a commercial property, tttf lots of dallis in it.
I just bit the bullet for one year and fertilized the whole thing while selectively treating / pulling crabgrass. That gave the Bermuda one year to spread out and start to compete with the crabgrass. Season 2 I went with prodiamine and it's looking good this year. With Zoysia - almost the opposite. I held back a on fertilizer and got the pre-emergent going. In the high heat (zoysia loves that) when the crabgrass should be done germinating, feed the zoysia a hot supper and let er rip. Thats just me. This year is a different problem all together.
@@wadeb.5509 RonStar pre emergent will allow Bermuda and Zoysia Grass to spread and attach. Much better than prodiamine, cost a little more but worth it.
@@lawncarelife your welcome, I didn’t mean to come off rude, I always show my class your videos!! You are awesome. This is my first year trying to do something with my lawn and I didn’t put out enough Pre-emerge. I know Pre-emerge does not kill off nutgrass. But when the Alabama temps go below 85, nut grass is going down! I have killed most of the weeds, but still a ways to get it like I want it. Thank you for the help!
This is a high value vid man. I appreciate it, everyone is telling my dallis is forever unless you scrape the yard. I’ve got tons of it and crab grass

Last one I think is paspalum, if he is describing a Y with a kicker....that's paspalum. Hard to tell with it mowed.
I like these weed identification vids.
Interestingly us Australians have all of them types with few different names. Thanks for the informative explanation.
Is buffalo grass the same as Bermuda grass?

I have a lot of dallisgrass. Planning to try the glyphosate on dormant Bermuda method this winter. Then spot treat with Solitaire next year.
Solitaire won't do much for Dallisgrass

I'm a little too far south for that. Every once in awhile I'll see some fescue in a shady yard

How do you encourage bermuda and zoysia to spread while preventing crabgrass? Is there any preemergent that wont interfere with spreading?
