  • This is a video that I did for my team before the start of the season. I had planned on going over this at training that night but our session was canceled because of the weather. We had our first game on the weekend and I wanted the players to have this information before the game.
    It's a basic overview but remember that it was aimed at the players and parents so keeping it simple and easy to understand was the goal.

    Interesting video, thanks for posting. Having seen a team try to implement this, and having coached a U12 state final all star team, the problem is that the 2 middle defenders must be very capable players. As they are "hounded" by attackers while simultaneously trying to find their diamond partners, many have failed in the heat of the game. Anyone who plans on using this, be aware that the back line should be some of the more capable, calm cool and collected players on your squad.

      I agree Douglas but I think that putting players in these situations will help them learn now to be more calm and confident on the ball. Yes, they'll make mistakes but if we're patient with them they can learn from them and become better players for it.

    great video. We played this formation where we pinched the back four at the mid field and sent the week side up always keeping three back to keep ball in attack end. My question is how can i get the software you used so I can use with my team as opposed to the chalk...

      Curious to know how this model of play worked out for you? I'm currently running a 3-2-3 but thinking of switching with my U14 girls team.

    Great Video. Do you mind if I share it with my team? We rotate between this formation (although we play it much more defensively) and a 3-1-3-1 depending on the situation. Could you do a video on the Roles and responsibilities for that formation as well? Thanks for all the great info and videos, as a parent coach who never played these have been a huge help for my boy and his team.

    • @WORLDCLASSCOACHING
      @WORLDCLASSCOACHING  7 років тому

      Feel free to share it with your team or other coaches that you think might find it useful. I may do a 3-1-3-1 video in the future. I've thought about using that formation but the fields we play on are a bit too wide to play three in the back IMHO.

    • @WORLDCLASSCOACHING
      @WORLDCLASSCOACHING  7 років тому

      Kable, I did this for my team playing 9v9. There are a lot of ways to play 8v8. It depends on the formation you choose and the roles you choose for the players.

      We play 3-1-3-1 primarily but we only have 2 real strikers + a lot more MFs + added a big defender so for the 1st time in 2 yrs we're going to this 4-1-2-1 [diamond] formation - id like to see your thoughts on 3-1-3-1 also - great video

  • @ttjesus4959
    @ttjesus4959 5 років тому +1

    4-1-2-1 or 4-3-1 is fine, if youre talking about 9v9 for U14 and above. Our 9v9 stops after U12 and the U12 players have such a difficult time with the fullback positions. So, most coaches go with 3 centrebacks instead of 2 fullbacks and 2 centrebacks. I still have my mind open about this. Im only a master of 11v11. 9v9 brings new challenges with it. So, i have been doing the homework and i think 3 centrebacks is likely the way a coach should go if he/she is a 9v9 coach for U13 and lower. I have also notice that at U12 and U13 that if u play more aggressive formations, which have more than the normal number of attacking players by 1 or 2 (moved forward from midfield and not defence) then u will most likely stand the best chance depending on your side's, and your opponent's talent. If there arent any major athletic advantages that your opponent has, then the extra attacker(s) seem to overwhelm the defence and pin the opposition back deep into their end. It will be back and forth, end to end at times. But, your defence will be facing a normal number of attacking players. And that just means that they need to win that battle. At the other end, u will overwhelm their defence and cause confusion from them never having faced the extra attacker or two. I did this at my last U13 match. Won 5-0 vs a team that had smashed us 3 or 4 times beforehand. The only difference was my formation. I intend on experimenting with it more to see how often it can be used effectively. Looks promising though

    Towards the end, you talk about having your forward up towards the goal to force the other teams defenders to stay back and stretch the field.. can't the other teams defenders all move up.. and then your forward would be off sides?

    • @WORLDCLASSCOACHING
      @WORLDCLASSCOACHING  6 років тому

      Sure they could but as long as the forward stays as high up the field as possible they will be a danger to the defending team.

      Let's educate the world about offside*. Let's destroy that "s" on the end for good

    • @williamkostka3244
      @williamkostka3244 5 років тому

      being in an offside position is not a violation in itself, just can't be involved in the play till coming back into an onside position, either by moving back or waiting for the "play" to catch up with the person in the offside position. ua-cam.com/video/uQrqLOGOPPU/v-deo.html

    All this is very nice - but the first 4v2 doesn't exist - it's actually 4v3 and the defensive midfielder is easy to isolate, disposes and then score from. At that point all you have done is set the kids up for failure. I've played against teams who have used this, put it together with this sort of analysis and reasoning. But that's adults thinking of the game, and the game is for kids. Kids want to run with the ball, they want to attack, and they want to make their own choices. And letting kids make their own decisions is how they learn. Give the kids back their game.

    i think you forget the other team's midfield. any opposition team with wingers will peg back your wide defenders and stop them from attacking.
