      @AllThingsOnePlace brands like AUKEY and LENCENT are also popular in my region but since I started watching your videos I am not touching any of those brands until i hear an informative review from you. by the way, your review on the power banks helped me to have a peace of mind when I am charging using a power bank. I bought the Baseus blade for each member of the family. Your review on the Ugreen robot charger saved me money. I knew something was shady on that thing😂

    7:45. It really helps on safety for these adapters if you *don’t* put other metal objects besides electrical plugs into them.
    You know, it’s optional for adults to do stupid things.

    I've had the Twelve South PlugBug in my cart for a couple weeks, went to see if YOU had reviewed it, and here we are! I was about to checkout and buy it...but bummer, it isn't great. I wouldn't mind some idle watts but I never want to see things get hot. Thank you for all your work.
    Right now I lean on my 96W Apple charger (A2166) with the Apple travel adapters. I JUST WISH I had a decently equivalent charger with one more USB port, plus the swappable travel plugs. I try to keep things light and minimal, so I wish I could visit Europe/Ireland/UK with just one adapter. Four ports would be the max I would need - charging my phone, a battery, and maybe my watch - so I was hoping this device could do the job. I wonder if anyone will produce a charger like this but with decent efficiency.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  2 місяці тому

      Yeah, this one is tough, it on paper looks perfect. Then it's not a great power supply which is it's primary function. I'm still on the bring the cable or adapter you need and the charger that works.

    I’d love to see you take a look at the Tofu Maru charger and the Mogics Super Bagel. Two very unique and interesting travel chargers. I’ve no doubt like the Zendue they don’t strictly meet safety standards, but closer than many other options.

  • @TommyThousandFaces

    I'd say idle power is not that important for a travel adapter since I don't think people travel for so long that it matters. Safety on the other hand, crucial because you're in a place with unknown electrical hazards. I prefer the passthrough chargers because they're usually equipped with fuses and shutters on the plugs so they're safer than other adapters. And if I were ever to forget my own charger I can get by buying just a cable. Also safety markings on plug adapters are as meaningful as DOE VI efficiency marks on chargers.

    • @ELaster1

      Think about a relocation. You can either buy everything new (including laptop chargers which can get hard to replace) or an adapter.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  2 місяці тому +7

      Yeah, I cover the idle as completeness, I understand if you ONLY use this for travel then it's probably not plugged in all the time. For that matter, most people could care less about efficiency too, but it's still a power supply so I look at them the same way. But yeah, the simple adapters are cheap enough and if you pick the right one they are safe.

    Something like the Satechi 165W is the best kind of travel adapter. So many hotels have loose sockets, placed in cramped places, and often far away from where you'd want to charge your devices. Having a cord to the adapter itself fixes these issues entirely, plus you can customize the cord with different plugs and length.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace

    • @bk99911

      This is why I like chargers that take standard C7 “figure 8” cables, you can just swap the cable out for whatever country you are travelling too. Very convenient for poorly placed sockets and no death plugs involved. Also check out the Tofu Maru and Mogics Super Bagel for other interesting options.

    • @MrJed_s
      @MrJed_s 2 місяці тому

      It's unfortunate that this style of charger is usually heavy and bulky, this one weighs almost 5x my Nomad 65w and C7 cords don't pack as nicely as type C. Could be worth it travelling as a family though.

      I got the Satechi 165W over the 145W travel adapter for the exact reason, because I knew I can't trust sockets in all places to be built well. The replaceable 2 pin figure 8 cable is easy enough to find anywhere. And the fact the 165W is cheaper than the 145W makes it even more of a good deal.

    Instead of an all-in-one foreign travel charger that's specifically intended to both adapt to various plug types and convert foreign voltage to 120V, what about reviewing the dual-voltage capabilities, performance, reliability and safety of chargers primarily meant to be used in north America but which one might want to take abroad if they're up to it. Then all you'd need would be plug adapters, which are fairly cheap and easy to find both here and abroad, and not have to buy potentially expensive chargers for use abroad.
    That's how I've used my Baseus 65W charger, the one with a cord and 2 AC outlets. It's officially not meant to be used abroad for anything much over 120V, but it worked just fine when I tried it on 220V/240V systems without overheating, frying, smelling funny or destroying my devices. We're talking for well over a month, as I traveled through three different countries. Some research I conducted before my trip indicated that the USB charger circuity could actually handle dual voltage and that it was the AC outlets that couldn't handle higher voltages. But I figured that metal is metal and whatever voltage system you plug them into they're all AC and all have comparable max wattage ratings, and it's the watts, or amps, that matter, not volts. When I got back home it continued to work just fine, and has in the over a year since I returned.
    But, most people won't want to wing it like this and would prefer a charger that's officially rated for abroad, and a review of the top chargers for their ability to handle that would be nice and useful.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  Місяць тому

      Almost every charger is universal input voltage, none do any converting, none I show in this video are converters. Some of the Baseus ones are specifically not though (I have a video on that). The video says to use a universal input voltage charger and the appropriate adapter. The charger will be marked if it can do the higher and lower voltages.

These things are everywhere now, and preferred by many people, since it's an all-in-one solution. But I'm hesitant since most of them are of.....unknown brand such as MOMAX, TESSAN. Aukey has one, but no reliable reviews are available. Would be good if you could round them up!

    Hello mate, I am searching thru your videos already a week. The plan is to find perfect power source for frequent traveler. 10 months in adventure this year (US, Singapore, Indonesia, Africa) it is really a lot. Carrying separate charger for each device ( MacBook, 2x iPhone, android phone, Nintendo Switch, 2x headphones and Apple Watch) is really annoying. Almost bought Satechi 145w but your review help me to discard that decision. Mainly because isolation... I hate tickling when using some devices. Could you please recommend something from your lab bench?

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  2 місяці тому

      That's a lot of devices... You probably will end up with more than one charger inevitably but there is certainly some opportunity to reduce. I do recommend at least one apple charger, because of the reliability and good isolation performance. The Zendure does have a lot of ports, mostly 5V ports but that will do all the small accessories and even phones, then one larger macbook charger handles the laptop? Isolation wise it did well. I use the Anker Prime 100W with an adapter for 'more isolation' on the go. The Satechi isn't great in that regard.

    • @k.velmario
      @k.velmario 2 місяці тому

      @@AllThingsOnePlace Yeah, that's a lot. Anyway I am trying to reduce numbers of devices which I am carring with me.. it definitelly need a time to do that. For the moment I consider Belkin Booster Pro 140w. Main reason is that I can choose if I want to quick charge my Macbook or give him regular 65w - I think it is good for battery savings. There is not so often situations that I am charging all devices at same time (maybe twice a year). Another set is 140w adapter (like Zendure, Verbatim, OneAdaptr - I think all them are on the same licence just branding and casing is different) plus Anker Prime 67w charger with 3 ports. It will be nice to hear your thoughts again.

    Most of those can be plugged in half.. which is not very safe and will be surely a fail/non compliant. Normally LVD can be tested on these easily, next to that the plugs will still need the plug certificates. That will still confirm the plug specific requirements (mechanical, dimensions etc).

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  2 місяці тому

      Yeah, I like the dedicated ones, the AB ones, because they have official sockets on one side and plugs on the other that fit. Most of them try to establish some sort of data connection which one can tell by the prompt on macOS and iOS if one wants to allow the accessory. Can you tell why that is the case? Are there any USB controllers inside doing that by default?

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  2 місяці тому

      They should not be asking for any data communications. The chip is using the cc line to pass a small amount of data to negotiate power levels. I'm sure someone will figure out a way to hack your machine through this path, rendering USB C completely useless, but there should be no data connection from this path to any part of the computer, phone, or any other subsystem data paths. The computer can report if the charger is capable, allowing the accessory is understandable as it does connect to a data capable port but should not pass any information. Are there bad actors, probably. If you plug in a lightning, magsafe cable, those have their own chips in the cables. So, may interact differently with the system.

    • @siteking4289
