If You are interested in buying a Bose 2.0 speakers for Your desktop setup and You wonder which one of these two is better choice than here is a video for You. As You probably can hear neither Bose Companion 2 III nor Bose Companion 20 can be called neutral or natural sounding speaker. Both present the sound that is highly maninpulated to appear big and spacious by boosting the midbass and pushing midrange upfront. I have rather unfavourable opinion on both of them, but if I was asked to choose between them than I would say to go with the cheaper one. Honestly I can not stand listening to Bose Companion 20 more than few minutes without getting angry, while Bose Companion 2 is more tolerable to my ears, especially considering the pirce tag. What do You think? Would You consider buying Bose speakers? Let me know in the comments below! Cheers!

So my two cents, because i tried them both:
I initially bought the 20s. I wanted the 'fuller' sound and put in the extra money. Mine broke after 3 days and I returned them. I bought the 2s because i hadn't been that satisified with the 20s anyways...
    Overall (both devices):
    + Good build quality
+ Good sound quality, no artifacts, static noises etc.
+ Good bass for such small devices.
+ They get LOUD. Very loud.
o Bose devices use heavy DSP (build in equalizer) to emphazise bass. It's not true-to-source music but pleasant to listen if you like the sound signature.
o Mediocre connectivity. No bluetooth; 2 aux-in, 1 aux-out. I think the 20s win, because you can position the control panel wherever you want on your desk while on 2s is fixed to right speaker
    - Build-in DSP can not be disabled. You are stuck to the Bose sound-signature.
    Companion 2s:
    + Cheaper.
+ Good and detailed bass. It's not "too much".
+ The sound is (relative to the 20s) alot more balanced. Alot more detail in the mids.
    - Controls and aux-out (headphones) is fixes to the right speaker.
    Companion 20s:
+ ALOT of bass for such a small device.
o Controlwheel / -panel can be placed wherever you want. You can't use the speakers without it though.
    - Twice the price of the 2s.
    - Mids and highs get drowned in the bass. Music lacks alot of detail. It can get annoying because there is no way to disable it / tune the EQ.
Overall I think the 2s are the better pair in any regard for 'computer'-usage, music, gaming, media-consumption, work. they win (for me) in all aspects. The 20s might be better (for some people) for music listening, because they sounds more like "festival" or "music-gig-soundbleed-through-closed-doors' or something.

The 20 actually sounds richer and has deeper bass, In my opnion- but could be the speakers I'm using to listen to it. Just seems as though the III has more mid-range and less low end.

I have both of them. First I bought Series 2 and found it very nice and warm i.e. balanced sound. When I want to move forward I chose Series 20 for next level of listening. What I found on Series 20 is very deep bass but with unnatural sound. So I always loved my Series 2 and recommend it to my friends who like to have natural sound. Sound performance considering the size is unique!

Quick tip for anyone using bose companion 20.
Connect music to the volume pod. If you connect the audio cable in the back of the speaker, DPS kicks in and it will mess with the sound. From my perspective connecting to the back only creates a messy hyped sound. Connecting to the volume pod makes the sound a lot more balanced. Sorry for bad english.

i tested both out in my own room for nearly a week with jazz, rock, blues, funk music, to me the companion 20 speakers are indeed louder (higher SPL) more deeper bass, but also very fatiguing to listen to, why? simple, these are very commercial tuned with a annoying peak in the mid high region, probably to impress the innocent buyer in the shop, actually the companion 2 series being a older design has a BETTER overall sound profile maybe less HiFi¨ but in the long run easier to live with, so i returned the companion 20 and bought for the price difference another pair of companion 2.0 , that was five years ago and im still enjoying these marvelous little speakers!

I agree with GiottoDiotto and The Stinky Bit. If the intent is to listen to them for an 8 hour work day, the Companion 2's provide a more enjoyable experience. Sure the 20's had more bass and highs, but after a while, I could not think while listening to them, as the sound was too much and too piercing. The 20's would be great for sitting back and watching a movie, but not for working alongside for an extended period of time. Also, the vocals/mids were almost identical. I returned the 20's and kept the 2's.

    • @blackisblack22
      @blackisblack22 4 роки тому

giottodiotto1 Believe me or not, I find Logitech Z120 tiny speakers very effective including a 20-20k range. The valuable thing about these speakers is not performance, but you can spend a long time listening to them in the background and at no time do they become annoying.

I listened this whit studio monitor headphones, and I must say that, despite companion 2 sounds fine, makes some kind of hurty aerial loud, and the 20's don't do that. Richer and large mid and high range sounds have a very high cost. I really don't think that 2 are better, but there are designed for general public which frecuently prefeer that kind of balance in sound hardware.
I wouldn´t say that 20's have poor mid range, but I think is easy to believe that because companion 2 have poor bass which is the reason why mid range sound more loud.
If you have the money, for the health of your ears and sound quality, go for 20's. Also, the 20's have a richer sound, and the instruments sound more natural.

Great bass test! I had the C20 for a few years but recently bought the C2III because the speakers started sounding distorted and scratchy. Probably because I used to blast them all the time. Although the C2III was much cheaper, I prefer the C20s, it just had a deeper richer bass sound. The new ones are good, but I'm a basshead so I miss this.

Bought the 20 today. It's the correct choice. It feels and sounds like there is a subwoofer on the floor but there is none.
Clearity is amazing on the 20, compared to the 2, there is this extra sound that I just dislike.
Not to say the 20 has a sound issue of its own with the mid being kinda over taken by the epic bass and the nice Hi.
but with the volume loud, it sounds fantastic! SUPER GOOD! It just sounds right to me over all compared to the 2 which I also bought and tested out.
I couldn't agree more only having them for a few hours.
FYI : buy the 2 if you live in an apartment, buy the 20 if you don't care about what your neighbors think of you if you live in an apartment.
The build quality is on par also. Solid frame no cheep plastic feel. which probably makes a difference.

Best speaker Review on UA-cam. If I could give it two thumbs up I would. This is how it should be done. I don’t care how long the cords are… I do but that’s really not the main point here is it?
The fact is you used many different genres of music and just let the speakers “speak for themselves.“ (no pun intended)
Great video! Thank you for taking the time to make it very well laid out and easy to follow.
Of course the bass is very easy to hear the difference here, but there’s also a big mid range difference as well. The mids are much fuller on the 20s.
Is it worth the extra $150 for the 20s? That’s up for people to decide. You also have to think about when you change them out and how much money you’re going to lose. Not much to be lost on the $99 set of speakers, where are the depreciation on a $250 of of speakers is much higher.
It really comes down to what you’re willing to pay and what you like. I’d say for $99 you get quite a bit. For $250 you get quite a bit more and you should.
Great video! Best one I heard for sure. Thank you!

I own both of these speakers, have for years. This video cannot possibly do justice to the differences in these speakers imo. The Companion 2 series 3 are great speakers, a good natural, all around great sound for most people, whether for music, movies, games or talk, you'll be happy with these speakers. As for the C20's, they are great speakers as well, only they provide more bass and are louder without distortion, maybe they are overkill for most except the diehards who are looking for the most bass in a small package and without the need for a subwoofer. Both speakers are highly recommended, it all depends on what your preference is when it comes to bass vs deep bass.

Although the Companion 20 provides a deeper and fuller bass, it suffers a bit at the mid-range level. I prefer the Companion 2.

*PRO* Sound Man Here: The Bose Companion 20 is *MUCH BETTER* Than the Bose Companion 2 Series III.
    1. Sound Quality: WOW! AMAZING! They work best placed against a wall because the BASS ports are in the back.
    2. Clarity it Excellent !
    3. Great Accurate Highs, Mids, & Lows! YES. (Place them near a wall for the Bass Ports to do their Magic1)
    Cons: Price

Sounds like they've cut the mids down a bit (around 1k - 1.5 k) on the C20s. Not, a lot of other differences.

Companion 2 III way too "bassy" for my taste. i used my Beyerdynamics DT 770 Pro 250Ohm. Companion 20 sounds really nice and full, very powerful sound to fill the room. Companion 2 is just bass all over the place eating up mids and highs.

The treble on companion 2 is better. Since they both cant play real bass anyways I would go with companion 2. I am listening to this review on a pair of KEF LS50s. Imaging also sounds better on the companion 2

3:22 Man on Fire section. The cymbals on the 20 is terrible. The cymbals on the Comp 2s3 sound muffled. Based on your bass test tones the 20 is slightly better 85hz and higher. 80hz and below they are equal.

The 2 III sounds better at times but to high pitched and tinny. The 20 sounds restricted and subdued but has a nice tone. I have a TBI so high pitches really mess me up, I wished the 20 had a bit of both. Possibly a floor woofer with speakers is what I need. This was the best review on UA-cam, no opinion just examples.. I am surprised you did not get more views and thumbs up.

  • @user-dz9yx3et9y

companion 2 III is better because it has that wide space sound signature and is way cheaper... take off the cloth grill if you want it to sound more like the 20s (crisper but more harsh)

Hey guys I actually have both of these right now and compared them. If you get a subwoofer the a2+s are probably better but without one a lot of the low end is just absent, like its not a matter of better or worse its literally just not there. The 20s are really slightly worse on the top 2/3s but actually have the low end. There's no question that the 20s are better in a head to head, the a2+s are 2/3 of a great speaker set up and the 20s are 3/3 of a great speaker set up. Some songs moderately better on the a2+ but some sound MUCH worse - also a2+s are notably more expensive on the used market

I'm not a bass head myself, usually listen to female vocal and classical, although the highs on the 20 is better, but the lack of bass and tinny mids are hurting, I'd prefer something in the middle. Not going to spend over double for the 20.

2 III sounds like a spicy and salty hodgepodge, where 20 sounds like a delicate sushi plate. Pick your taste. 20 smashes 2 III on classical and jazz.

    • @JackOfHarts96
      @JackOfHarts96 5 років тому

The much clearer mids on the 2 III does it for me. Yeah, I get they're both for different tastes but what astounds me is the price difference. Also "20 smashes 2 III on classical and jazz", the jazz I guess, but for the Classical, yeah the violin was clearer on the 20 but I found the mids on the 2 III brought out the cellos really nicely.
