How many Jewish Holidays did you know about before you watched this video? Don't forget to look at the link in the description that provides more detail on all the Holidays.
I grew up in a neighborhood in Brooklyn NY that had a large Jewish population. I was exposed to their holidays but always in the context of relating it to our Roman Catholic holidays. So Hanukah was the "Jewish Christmas", Rosh Hashanah was the "Jewish New Year's Day" and Purim was the "Jewish Halloween". Of course I realized the significance separately as I got older and now find other faiths' holiday celebrations very interesting.
Awesome video prof! I learned a lot about Sukkot, Shavout, and Tisha b’av. I will definitely look into that link to learn about more of the holidays, I’m so interested 🤗
Thank you, make sure to check out the link in the descriptions. It has a ton of information. I Also have a longer video on a lot of this material ua-cam.com/video/-bRGTunuwoI/v-deo.htmlsi=S6tQp-gwdA3kj_jB
I had a very good friend in college whose parents didn’t mind him bringing home this Shiksa . Well, not too much! I learned a lot about their holidays from them.
My father was a theologian and Judeo- Christian scholar. We grew up surrounded by and learning from people of all faiths and got to experience many holy days from many faiths. I feel more people should learn these things. Thank you.
Oh! I knew about all of these, some only a passing knowledge of "why", some very familiar. But, woah, I have sure been pronouncing some of them wrong. I'm happy to learn the correct pronunciation. I live in Sullivan County, NY, with a significant Jewish population. I think some friends are just polite, and accept my mispronunciations. But now I can clean up my act. :) The Jewish calendar is interesting to me, as well. I know the criteria for how the Indian soli/lunar calendar resets, but I don't know the criteria for the Jewish calendar. It is probably not the same, since it resets at different intervals (although both are at approximately 3 year intervals, because that's how the solar and lunar cycles relate to each other). Only the Muslim calendar is purely lunar, and drifts blithely through the seasons - no biggie in the Middle East, but 'fun times' for Muslims well away from the equator. I just discovered your channel through a Facebook post today. Subscribing, and greatly looking forward to exploring your videos. Thank you!

Thanks for the overview! As a non Jewish person, we’re basically raised with the idea that Hanukkah is just the Jewish Christmas and that it’s Super Important. Around middle school I figured out that it is obviously completely standalone from Christmas and unrelated. Around highschool I learned that holidays like Yom Kippur and Passover are significantly more important. Anyways I appreciate videos like this so us non Jewish can put in the work of learning basic facts about other religions that we probably should’ve been taught in the first place.

I remember hearing those terms as well even in California. Hope you enjoyed the video.
I had never heard of the last two on the list. I’m sure Eve will be teaching me all about them this year!👍🏽
