I was taught that too, but think about it. It doesn't really make any sense, because you can yawn while breathing out as well. You don't actually have to breathe in to yawn, so you wouldn't always be taking any oxygen into the brain or any part of your body. The theory just isn't consistent.
Stephanie von Hidegh-Pichler this doesn't make sense. If that was the explanation for random GASPING, sure. But yawns don't really let a huge amount of oxygen in

Embarrassing ourselves or telling a lie causes our brain to have an activity spike due to us panicking (or some form of similar response). This increase in electrical activity causes us to breathe faster and makes our heart pump faster to circulate oxygen as your now, most likely, trying to figure out an excuse, which requires us to have oxygen (and sugar) present in our brain. This generating kinetic heat energy, we then blush simply because the blood that was being pumped by our heart is now closer to the surface of our skin due to it needing to cool to a lower temperature, thus causing us to be able to see the colour of our blood through our skin. Google Thermoregulation, it may explain it better than I did.

i have my own theory of yawning: since humans used to live and hunt and do many other things in groups, it is better for the entire group when they sleep at the same time. this means, when one individual starts yawning, the other will too and maybe they decide to take a break or a nap. and then the next morning kick the mammuts ass
Can't people in Asia meditate and heal themselves and adjust blood temperature? Maybe our bodies can do more than we think but we don't know how to active it. Like how we can walk but we had to learn
Yes, we all can heal ourselves without the need of herbs and medicine, we all have the ability to control the body's temperature-increase it to survive very cold temperatures, this is called Tummo, there are videos that show how it's done.
I actually kind of raised my temperature or something today I was very cold and had goosebumps and just sat there thinking then I was no longer cold and goosebumps went away, I was astonished but couldn't do it again
I totally dig science. I'm a fairly open minded fella. Thing is, can anyone tell me if they've pinpointed the moment we started thinking science was ever intended to say why something happens? All science does, all it will ever do, is observe and describe what happens, and then make predictions based on what it observed. Rinse, wash, and repeat as needed 😉 I used to think science told the why, at least what once passed thinking. I used to think I was so f@cking smart! Turns out I knew less than Jon Snow. In a way knowing you can never really know anything, is the only thing you can ever really know. You can't escape polarity, natural law is always working the room.I'd like science to explain why we, "know" anything. To know anything for sure, is knowing everything for sure. In fact for something to be correct, the possibility must exist that it is incorrect. Maybe when we think of yin and yang we forget about the contrasting dots within each color. It's Hide & Seek☮❤️✨
Good comment in general, except for this one sentence: "In fact for something to be correct, the possibility must exist that it is incorrect." This is complete nonsense. 1+1=2 is correct not because it could also be incorrect, but because it could not. Statements in math, about language, within definitions, can all be certainly correct or incorrect. Just all judgments regarding the physical reality are subject to essential uncertainty.
Actually, "To know anything for sure, is knowing everything for sure." is flawed as well. That is making an unjustified claim on the fundamental nature of physical reality, which you just before validly claimed to not have any insight on.

I subscribed to your channel just because of your explanation of why it is ok that science does not have all the answers. PREACH!! PREACH!! I loved all your explanations.
my theory behind the yawn is that's the first thing we do when god breathe life into our body and we bcome alive. that's why we get that amazing sensation everytime we yawn. that's the feeling bcome alive
you're correct bro. the same as blushing, we blush after we ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge and noticed we are naked. we time traveler confirmed it
Ninja Nigga God isn't real brah. We are looking for real, proof-based science to prove these things. Not something comparable to explaining thunder by saying "it's the Angels bowling!" Dipshit.
The yawn is also thought to be evolutionary signal that it's time for the "tribe" so to speak to go to bed. This would also explain why it's contagious letting the message pass faster and their for alerting more people
yawning is actually the body's way of releasing excess carbon dioxide from the lungs and taking in more oxygen. in other words, a larger version of breathing
and the contagiousness is probably from on person releasing that carbon dioxide which then travels to multiple mouths surrounding that person thus causing a domino like effect
+RFTube its actually from where people yawy sometimes if there isnt as much oxygen in the air so then if it tricks your mind into yawning to incase you arnt getting enough oxygen
+Mindless being someone who sings a lot you don't breath much and yawn a lot and i agree with it being a bigger version of breathing. people yawn when their tired because (i think) their body shuts down and their breathing slows, so body signals say there isn't enough oxygen going through the lungs. as to why it's contagious? i think it's just genetically contagious. most people when they look at others doing stuff (e.g. drinking water) realize they might also be thirsty and have some water. same thing with yawning, subconscious mimicking safety measure.
From a respiratory point of view, I believe yawning is the body's response to increased levels of C02 or high PC02. Also decreased levels of 02 or P02. Yawning is basically a forced sigh. When you sigh you double or triple your tidal volume therefore, helping to prevent atelectasis or collapsing of the tiny air sacs in your lungs. So, yawning opens up your air sacs increasing pulmonary performance put simply. Which is probably why we do this in the morning after several long hours of lower tidal volumes.
I think I can sort of understand the placebo effect. So, if you think you should move your fingers, you can do it. So, if you think you should heal, you will heal. For example, some people can meditate to raise their body temperature. Also meditating can make you feel calmer, that's because you will yourself to be calmer. Think about it.
but how does your body do it. Is there maybe a super bacteria your body releases that will remove bad bacteria, cancer, viruses, etc. only when you believe you are actually getting better
Blushing. I wish I blushed... I have a different facial reaction.... The biggest creepiest uncontrollable grin you have ever seen I just have to turn away haha
+mike murillo What & Oh By The Way (OBTW) grammatically correct form would be, "He doesn't have any legs." Not "He ain't got no legs'. Furthermore He ain't got no goes back to he has legs since "ain't got no translates to has!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my theory about sleep is that our "soul" needs time to reflect through dreaming. visiting other existences elsewhere to prepare ourselves to the next type of life.
Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Heres Tom with the Weather.
The problem with argueing if Free Will exists is difficult because it's subjective. You can make a choice and believe that you either chose that or that it was destiny. Free Will is nothing more than an opinion.
I think maybe yawning comes from the lack of breathing,do you ever notice how the more tired you get the more your breath slows down, well maybe your body gets used to that and yawning is a way of taking in more air.Or it's the brains way of telling you that you need to sleep considering the fact that I'm the time of the hunter gatherers we had no concept of time, and maybe it's contagious because in that time it could have been a way of telling a whole group of hunter gatherers they need rest.
So many things we do not know, that science methods cannot establish conclusively. As you said, that's what makes our world so interesting, isn't it? Thanks for your insights! I very much enjoyed the video!
There was a lady here in Australia a few years ago that sneezed that hard the bones in her neck jumped out of place and she was lucky to not have died.
I don't believe yawning is contagious I think it's that everyone is just so distracted that they've put off yawning for later subconsciously and when they see someone else yawn they're reminded and thus making them yawn. Just a theory.!
1. "Hypnic Jerk" happens when you fall asleep without trying and your brain notices a drop in blood pressure. The drop in blood pressure makes the brain think you are dying and releases adrenaline into the blood thus waking you up in a dramatic way. 2. You pretty much explain it, The eyes and nose connect to similar nerves and the brain can mix up certain signals. 3. Placebo effect, a simple "mind over matter" type of response. It's a psychological response not unlike mass hysteria. 4. Yawning is a true mystery. There are multiple theories including being tired, needing more oxygen, cooling the brain, and maybe as a sympathetic response to other people yawning to connect more socially. 5. Blushing isn't really a mystery of why it happens, more of when it started. We blush because more blood rushes to the head when in times of stress, whether it be embarrassment, anger, or physical strain. This is because our brains and senses need to increase in performance in times of stress and thus need more blood. 6. Sleep...that is really the last on the list. Well, it's pretty simple, every creature needs sleep to heal better, metabolize slower, grow, and ease psychological strain. A mystery it is not. All in all these are odd things our body does but, apart from yawning, they are pretty easy to explain.
+Brandon Hutchins how about you make your own channel if you just want to re cap everthing he just said lol. these are things we do know about these subjects but it's not fully understood like we understand many other things. that's all. science is awesome but dont turn it into a religion :P
I just don't like when anyone says things are a mystery when it obviously isn't a mystery. I would make my own channel but don't have the time usually.
On the show , Cash Cab, they say that yawning is a form of cooling the brain down? I’ve always remembered that because almost all people say the same thing about yawning; that it doesn’t do anything? Can you clear this up please? Thank you
The first one is called a Myoclonic jerk. It is not a misfire but rather quite a targeted one. When you are falling asleep (especially when you're really tired) various parts of your body decrease in function. Sleeping doesn't require as much functionality of the organs as when you are awake. So, when this (hear slows down, breaths get deeper, limbic musles losen up, etc.) happens, your brain interprets it as dying. So, it sends a powerful surge to your lower body to attempt to keep it "alive." The myoclonic jerk does, but rarely, occur more than once at a time (mostly, not more than once a day). It is essentially your brain's attempt to keep your body up and alert
My theory on sleep is that sleep stores adrenaline, and does not use it, stopping you from having conciseness while sleeping. And that would also explain dreams, a dream happens when a sudden burst of that stored adrenaline causes a thought, but not full concise to a persons awaking.
I think the 'hip-nick-jerk' happens because of the other unexplained phenomena known as gravity. When we're sleep, our bodies are made to lay supine (or flat) not upright, so while we're sleeping, we subconsciously can't hold our balance. Being in a seated position allows us to relax enough to fall asleep (or be tired enough - I once fell asleep for like 3 sec standing upright) anyway, being in a seated position allows us to relax enough but your conscience is trying to maintain the "awake" position while your body is going into sleep mode, so basically we're watching a struggle..............The Placebo affect is from simple 'mind over matter' theory. No matter what method is used it is just the stated fact, we only use a small percentage of our brains so whether it's known or not we inevitably can mentally heal but the 'Placebo affect' triggers this effect.
For the first one, I also heard that when you jolt like that in your sleep as if you are falling is because your heart rate slows down too fast so the brain thinks you're dying so it sends messages throughout your body to wake the nerves or whatever. Could this be true?
the reason some people sneeze when they look at the sun is because when you sneeze you are forced to close your eyes, and as a response to the sunlight (or any bright light) your body forces you to sneeze... thus saving your eyes from being damaged by the UV rays.
I wish you guys amazingness today and everyday of the year. Don't let anyone get in the way of happiness, not even yourself. you are strong and capable and amazing and if you are feeling ashamed, alone or unworthy know you are better then you could ever imagine and know not to regret things and don't live your life ashamed but embrace the present and the world around you. YOU MATTER TO ME. Don't mind those who made you feel like you didn't. You are amazing and you're not weaker then any battle in life. You are cared for. You are worth it!!
It's funny when the placebo affect is mentioned to me now because I have the opposite, called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CPRS). My ankle was injured in September 2014, I was misdiagnosed twice, I went to physical therapy for a misdiagnosis, I went through a multitude amount of casts and boots, had surgery making me wear a cast then a boot then a brace, and I still have pain nearly due to my mind set that "I'm not getting better and I doubt I will anytime soon"
hypnic jerk is caused from your muscles going numb before your brain enters rem sleep.Normally you enter rem sleep then your body goes numb. But if your body goes numb before that you feel weightlessness and your brain thinks you are falling.
when i am falling asleep it feels like gravity is distorted. but not when i wake up. i have the sneeze reflex. yawns: when i yawn i am more likely to keep yawning. yawning is addictive to me. and i tried not to yawn at that. i liked that last part about being humble and it's good that there are more things left to discover.
i hate that feeling of falling during my sleep, it almost gives me a heart attack every time

+Ashanti Mizrahi Same when I read yours! 😂
i have my own theory of yawning: since humans used to live and hunt and do many other things in groups, it is better for the entire group when they sleep at the same time. this means, when one individual starts yawning, the other will too and maybe they decide to take a break or a nap. and then the next morning kick the mammuts ass
+fanjapanischermusik Thats really dumb. Instead of that happening, what might transpire is a bunch of tigers come and eat them in their sleep
+Duksing Chau That's just as dumb. My ancestors didn't yawn, they were the village guards. Lol
Yes ur ancestors did yawn
i don't get the reference
lmao worst theory i have ever heared. literally
Can't people in Asia meditate and heal themselves and adjust blood temperature? Maybe our bodies can do more than we think but we don't know how to active it. Like how we can walk but we had to learn
love this... you are exactly right
I believe PPL hav things that they can do but we just don't know. I've heard we were once higher level of conscious, but dropped down
Yes, we all can heal ourselves without the need of herbs and medicine, we all have the ability to control the body's temperature-increase it to survive very cold temperatures, this is called Tummo, there are videos that show how it's done.
I actually kind of raised my temperature or something today I was very cold and had goosebumps and just sat there thinking then I was no longer cold and goosebumps went away, I was astonished but couldn't do it again
yeah, if you learn how to focus all of your energy on that one spot you can heal yourself. Maybe instead of medication, we should be teaching this.
Yes I yawned. But I can also force myself to yawn... Who else can do this?
i can use the force to release a toxic gas.
+Ryan Clark
lol homie
I can kinda
i yawned after reading that comment
Everyone can...... sorry bud
The something jerk doesn't work for me I was coming back from 6th grade camp and I woke up mid air landing on my crushes lap..
Niiiiiiiiice
+Gabriel Morton good for you

can't believe what I just read SMDH
This is the stuff i actually wanna learn about, this stuff is very interesting.
i yawns too but overtime i yawn i tear up.
+Kayla Nguyen *yawn*
Yeah it's... Beyond Science!
I totally dig science. I'm a fairly open minded fella. Thing is, can anyone tell me if they've pinpointed the moment we started thinking science was ever intended to say why something happens? All science does, all it will ever do, is observe and describe what happens, and then make predictions based on what it observed. Rinse, wash, and repeat as needed 😉
I used to think science told the why, at least what once passed thinking. It's Hide & Seek☮❤️✨
this was a very intersting comment. yin yang indeed my friend. beauty is found in the dissonance
The Philosophist Adventure! A "why" implies a "who".
"Why" implies a personal meaning superimposed on the whole ;-)
Yep I yawned.
542 skeptics whose god is science are not happy with that their 'god' can't explain everything.
When science becomes a false god
WTF Science is study of the material world when did he became god
1:41 when im in a dark place and i go out and look at the sun (not directly) the top of my eyes just hurt a lot.
We are all connected. Everything is vibrations.
+Mason Roberson Its such a good vibration!
Whats the deal with the hissing thing? Was there joke about it or something I missed?
leaf a like HHHHHHHIIIIIISSSSSSS
Go to LeafyIsHeres Chanel. It's like an inside joke

That leafy guy is a fucking sexy ass reptile.
I subscribed to your channel just because of your explanation of why it is ok that science does not have all the answers. PREACH!! PREACH!! I loved all your explanations.
Any light can make me sneeze if I look at it. It doesn't have to be the sun.
+Tavon Fenwick yes, perfect sense! 👍👍👍
i sneeze too at bright lights
Sometimes happens to me also. Nasal hysteria over bright light.
I guess ur one of those people who sneeze because of bright light
+Milkdromeda Galaxy No, no. I only sneeze at bright lights :P
my theory behind the yawn is that's the first thing we do when god breathe life into our body and we bcome alive. that's why we get that amazing sensation everytime we yawn. that's the feeling bcome alive
Uhm, no.
you're correct bro. the same as blushing, we blush after we ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge and noticed we are naked. we time traveler confirmed it
Ninja Nigga God isn't real brah. We are looking for real, proof-based science to prove these things. Not something comparable to explaining thunder by saying "it's the Angels bowling!" Dipshit.
well BrittDawg do you have any evidence that GOD isnt real ??? because I have some evidence that might say differ about what your saying...
Elizabeth harris Yes.
Keep making vids Mikey! You're channel is pretty awesome man
Hi I'm a dog that can speak English for about 30 secon-woof woof bark.
+Matthew Kendall Bark bark?
Your not speaking your typing and that wasn't 30 seconds :p
Then you type really slow 😝
+Epic Crafter My phone changes words 😔
Aww here doggy you want a doggy snack? :p
I have never seen or heard of sun sneezing.
Me either science being full of shit as usual.
me eithrr
So we all agree he is lying
happens to me everyday
tribulation138 God damn it tribulation
The yawn is also thought to be evolutionary signal that it's time for the "tribe" so to speak to go to bed. This would also explain why it's contagious letting the message pass faster and their for alerting more people
why is no one talking about the supernatural pOSTER
erchomai veni And how about Forest Gump lol
I was gonna talk about it
yawning is actually the body's way of releasing excess carbon dioxide from the lungs and taking in more oxygen. in other words, a larger version of breathing
and the contagiousness is probably from on person releasing that carbon dioxide which then travels to multiple mouths surrounding that person thus causing a domino like effect
+RFTube but then how do people yawn off pictures?
+RFTube its actually from where people yawy sometimes if there isnt as much oxygen in the air so then if it tricks your mind into yawning to incase you arnt getting enough oxygen
+ImperialYT Where did you get this information?
+Mleno bio feedback... hypnosis... all pretty much the same
but how does your body do it. Is there maybe a super bacteria your body releases that will remove bad bacteria, cancer, viruses, etc. only when you believe you are actually getting better
N3SSDOGG Not even science knows the answer to that question.(I think). I just presented a way to think about it.
I think the placebo effect is why people say that if you believe, things will come true. It's kind of dumb in some ways but also helpful in others.
Blushing. I wish I blushed... I have a different facial reaction.... The biggest creepiest uncontrollable grin you have ever seen I just have to turn away haha
Shin Chan
Whenever I feel like sneezing [I enjoy it at times !!!], to clean-up my air passages, I look-up at the sun. Have been doing it since childhood !!!
he ain't got no legs
lol
lolzzzz
I'm a super saiyan
No you're not you're the great Bilbo Baggins
+mike murillo What & Oh By The Way (OBTW) grammatically correct form would be, "He doesn't have any legs." Not "He ain't got no legs'. Furthermore He ain't got no goes back to he has legs since "ain't got no translates to has!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
who else realize that sometimes many of the scientist theory are just easy similar theory that you come up with
Thats called Occam's Razor
my theory about sleep is that our "soul" needs time to reflect through dreaming. visiting other existences elsewhere to prepare ourselves to the next type of life.
what about consciousness which science can never explain?
Just stop
Today a young man on acid realized that all matter
is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one
consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing
as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.
Heres Tom with the Weather.
Shaikh sajid Azmi The existence of consciousness that science can explain. It's the existence of Free Will that it can't.
The problem with argueing if Free Will exists is difficult because it's subjective. You can make a choice and believe that you either chose that or that it was destiny. Free Will is nothing more than an opinion.
Unknown Factor I'm yet to be convinced of anything other than hard determinism. Seems the only logical stance.
I wonder if a snake will yawn if I yawn in front of it
You are my hero. Love what you do!
the hipnick shit happens to me every day wtf
and you are a freak because of it.
+FeelsGoodMan Your in a time loop. FeelsBadMan
i was yawning at that part lmao
me too
Lol
same here
Yeah I did too
Penguinonfleek omg me too lol
I think maybe yawning comes from the lack of breathing,do you ever notice how the more tired you get the more your breath slows down, well maybe your body gets used to that and yawning is a way of taking in more air.Or it's the brains way of telling you that you need to sleep considering the fact that I'm the time of the hunter gatherers we had no concept of time, and maybe it's contagious because in that time it could have been a way of telling a whole group of hunter gatherers they need rest.
This is my favorite theory
BrenBren Hmann
Thanks :)
Star Cat Savior of Senpai
Ah ok cool
the hypnic jerk is another you from a parallel universe dying/falling
Ok.
That... That's it?
+Charibo yeah.
Well... Man. I was hoping for, like... I don't know. That was supposed to be your side of the comments.
Placebo effect is the law of attraction in use
Actually it's the other way around
Fu If ahhhh! Clever!
So many things we do not know, that science methods cannot establish conclusively. As you said, that's what makes our world so interesting, isn't it? Thanks for your insights! I very much enjoyed the video!
I feel like I'm in school😂😂😂
I just yawn at 4:43
Guilty of sympathetic yawning. Lol The still image on the street got me.
ive heard from my biology teacher, that you yawn, because you need more oxygen for you Brain.
your*
+Vincent Michael Bruun That's correct
That makes negative sense
I yawned at that part :)
There was a lady here in Australia a few years ago that sneezed that hard the bones in her neck jumped out of place and she was lucky to not have died.
shrimp frih rih??
Savage😹
+Selena Gomez you the real Selena Gomez?
Jason Burris
Yes and I'm the real Drake
+Drake lol okay
+Drake HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I yawned....
I don't believe yawning is contagious I think it's that everyone is just so distracted that they've put off yawning for later subconsciously and when they see someone else yawn they're reminded and thus making them yawn. Just a theory.!
I yawned like 4 times wtf
+Ulysses Sanchez me 2 times :)
hiss...hiss...hisssssssssss
+AlfieFG Hissss... thats what creeper says when he wants to blow up
Edin Cvrk no that is the national anthem of the Reptilian Empire
AlfieFG Ok but why then creepers are hising?
Edin Cvrk Idk why the creepers are hising but it sure don't have nothing to do with Reptilians hissing

+Franco Idk get out
+Franco Idk Chill with the unoriginal racism and educate yourself
Franco Idk Congratulations, you validated your pointless existence
T.J. Franz Productions Wow how original. I'm not a baby I just don't think its cool to make fun of people for their race.
I would make my own channel but don't have the time usually.
yea.. choice of words are important
I yawned and when you started talking about it I automatically knew I would start yawning
Great! Clear and so interesting!
patients with osteoarthritis felt the same because no one's situation improved even with surgery
For the first one, I also heard that when you jolt like that in your sleep as if you are falling is because your heart rate slows down too fast so the brain thinks you're dying so it sends messages throughout your body to wake the nerves or whatever. Could this be true?
literally as he's about to ask if you yawn, I did lol
Ive experienced the sensation of falling 3 times while dreaming I was falling.
Same that happends to me
the reason some people sneeze when they look at the sun is because when you sneeze you are forced to close your eyes, and as a response to the sunlight (or any bright light) your body forces you to sneeze... thus saving your eyes from being damaged by the UV rays.
I don't know about anyone else, but when I'm nodding off rather than the feeling of falling, I get the feeling of choking.
Btw, I yawned as well. Yawning is also a signal that we need more air in our bodies, in order to keep active
I never yawn when people say it's contagious, even in the myth busters episode! I didn't yawn either.
I believe in you!
hypnic jerk is caused from your muscles going numb before your brain enters rem sleep.Normally you enter rem sleep then your body goes numb. But if your body goes numb before that you feel weightlessness and your brain thinks you are falling.
That's so weird, he started talking about yawning and I did then he said when reading or thinking about your more likely to yawn.. Pretty cool
when i am falling asleep it feels like gravity is distorted. but not when i wake up.
i have the sneeze reflex.
yawns: when i yawn i am more likely to keep yawning. yawning is addictive to me. and i tried not to yawn at that.
i liked that last part about being humble and it's good that there are more things left to discover.
