    Nice, easy job. One tip: when I do this mods I solder the diode back to one side of the pads. That way if I want to reverse the mod at a later time I don't have to go looking for another diode. I simply remove it from the single pad it and solder it back to both.

    The Best Radios ever made. I loved the late 1980's & 1990's Models. The TS-450S was one of my favourite DX Machines. Happy weekend Uncle Peter & keep up the Good Work 🍻👌🙋‍♂

    Nice job you explained it very well. I run two Kenwood TS 6 90s. The 450 in the 690 same radio. I literally talked all over the world with mine. I would never get rid of them.

    I had a Kenwood TS-430S with matching PS-430 power supply. When I got my new power supply (MFJ-4035) and Yaesu 991a, I gave the Kenwood 430 to a disabled ham who had just passed his General test and only had a HT. Other hams have helped me out so I thought it was fair play to help out another ham. That's what ham radio is all about--hams helping hams. The 430 was already opened up and would transmit from 0 through 29.999999 MHz. Just clip a little white wire on the bottom of the board, so I checked and yes, it had been clipped. Just my luck I got hold of a TS-450S last week that was opened up for 60m by the previous owner. It even tunes my my shortened 40m dipole until I can put up a more appropriate antenna. Looking forward to seeing what I can reach on the band.

    Thanks a lot. After having this radio for many years I dared to open it to be able to use it in 7.100/7.200 (it was closed in Spain). I lifted the radio to avoid damage to the extra SSB & CW filters ot the printed circuit that protruded from the radio lower support, it is in the manual, the lower cover has a bulge. I cut the diode with pliers. I had an annoying problem, the lower wider connection band disconnected itself when I moved forward the front, it was too short or forced bent from origin. And it was difficult to plug it in again without fully dismount the front, I managed to plug it in from the underside with my fat fingers with the front half open. I checked the audio capacitors (no bulges) and battery (3,3V) and all seemed OK

    Hi Peter thank you for a great video I to have a Kenwood TS 450 but at this time a friend of mine is using it. I did not know that this radio can be converted to 60 m very interesting. And I was just wondering about the battery I’m assuming that you can take the old one out and put a new one in is that correct? I take it the battery is not soldered to the PCB. Thank you for sharing the video and have a great week.

    Great video Peter. One question...I noticed that when you showed the rig turned on before the modification at :50, the word SWR was illuminated (just below the S meter), but when you finished the mod at 11:40 it was no longer illuminated. Is there a button that turns the word SWR on and off? Thanks and keep up the good work on UA-cam.

    Gotta love simple fixes like that ... If Amazon prime keeps increasing in price - I might as well just break down and buy a radio and listen during the evenings.

    Nice short one, Peter! Always a pleasure to have radios that fold apart like a book, makes it so much nicer to work on. That old lady is in very good condition, and is good for the next 25 years if it gets a good service from time to time. Thanks and 73 de Olaf. Peter, ist Haus und Garten heil geblieben? Wir hatten zwar Sturm, aber noch recht viel Glück in der Kölner Bucht.

    Does this modification open up the full RX range? For example the 27mhz part of the spectrum "a-la" 11metres?

    If you still have the radio you may want to replace C104 a audio coupling capacitor that historically fails in this rig.

    Hola alguien puede ayudarme? Cómo coloco la retencion de pico en el smeter al transmitir ???

  • @ojjenkins7110
    @ojjenkins7110 2 роки тому +1

    You didn't mention if the tuner works on 60 or not. It will not tune 60 on the TS2000! You must use an external tuner for 60 if the antenna is not resonant.
