Davey Allison might have gone down as one of the top 3 drivers in NASCAR history, had he been on this Earth longer. God bless you, Davey. We all miss you, even today.
Davey Allison was always my favorite driver. I just can't help but to wonder how good he could have been if it wasn't for that fateful Monday at Talladega in 1993. I'm sure he would have won at least one Winston Cup Championship before it was all said and done. I'm happy that I was able to meet him when I was 12 years old and a photo with me, my younger brother and Davey is one of my treasured posessions.
This race is the featured race in probably the best book ever written about NASCAR, "American Zoom". I never saw the end before in footage, so this is a great find.
I know that Davey would've beat Dale out a couple of times for the Championship. Dale even said it himself in an interview he did in 1997. I'm an Earnhardt, and an Allison fan. Once Jeff Gordon came into the sport I believe it would have been a fantastic rivarly between the three of them (Allison, Earnhardt, and Gordon) for the rest of the 90's. The early 1990's was the peak of NASCAR, and now Sprint has completely altered the sport. R.I.P. Davey, and Dale.
This was a great race, I was pulling for our local man Morgan Shepherd, but I wasn't unhappy to see Davey win, especially with everything that would happen just a year and a half later.
This win made me hopeful for the coming Talladega race in May that I attended in person. He didn't disappoint. That Yates engine with Davey behind the wheel was a force to be reckoned with on the superspeedways and places like Michigan.
@ksthomas Davey was definetly a great driver. If he was still alive and racing today, he'd be a multiple-time champ. This was an era of MANY GREAT drivers. The Allisons, Dale Earnhardt Sr., Mark Martin, Morgan Sheaperd, Alan Kulwicki, Bill Elliott, and others. You'll never see great drivers like that again. The only TRUE talent that's left really is Jeff Gordon. Mark Martin, he's starting to get screwed. Kyle Busch, ugh. Jimmie Johnson, hell no. Tony Stewart, eh okay, rough year though.
@Crisgo3d I think Allison would of won alot of races and a championship or two if he didn't die he was really starting to become very good in that 92 season and I think he would of been a force in future years
Now this is how the Daytona 500 should end every year! All these youtube videos of 90's Daytona 500 finishes are so enjoyable to watch, they aren't cheap finishes like the last 6 500's have been. The last time that a legitiamte green flag run ended the 500 was in 2004....every other year, (besides 2006 when Johnson dominated) it's been just a random toss up. Shame on Nascar!
Davey would have 7 or 8 championships if he hadn't tragically been killed! Davey, you were and always will be my favorite! From a fellow Birmingham native!
Yeah, me too...I never cared that much for Davey...I liked Earnhardt and Gordon then...but he was what Dale Jr. is to NASCAR today a popular second generation driver who gets infamy or fame because of his last name and what that places on you.

I was 4 years old then, and DAVEY WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE MY HERO!!!
We miss you Davey.
Davey would be where Jimmie Johnson is today. R.I.P. Davey, you were the best

This was my first NASCAR race as a 7 year old kid. Amazing memories!
That was a good win for Davey and the 28 team. I wish I'd been into NASCAR then, but I was only 2. I didn't know about or watch NASCAR until 1999.
The sound of those engines is so sweet.

Sad that Neil Bonnett, Alan Kulwicki and Davie were all gone not long after this race
they sold a replicat, i thought they did to till i looked it up
how did davey pass away?
they sold this car @ Barrett-Jackson for $125,000
yep... only racers I like because they talk about it tell there minds but don't start bitching are Jr and Harvick...

Back when Nascar was Ford, Chevy. Dodge......When Toyota joined I stopped watching nascar
crappy RIP Davey
The most boring Daytona 500 of the 1990s. The Big One sure ate the field up...
