Live vocals should be live. Simple as that. I mean, why label it as live, if your going to edit it to the point it doesn't even sound like them singing? And they often don't do a very good job at the vocal "touch ups". Sometimes the editing of the vocals is so obvious, not to mention, pooly done, they end up sounding like Alastor from Hazbin Hotel. Like, if your going to edit vocals, you could at least make it sound good. Isn't the point of the editing to make it sound "good" ?

True. Many fans have never heard real live. Being able to sing is one thing while being able to sing and dance simultaneously is another whole different skill set. Even Beyoncé doesn’t sing an entire song while dancing without a little help of back track in certain parts.

I'm so sick of a very loud "backing track" on music shows or even on concerts. Like, yeah. You have to protect your artists to look good all the times but damn, it's their jobs and no one force them to be a singer.
It's part of their job and they are still doing their job even with overuse of backtracking that their staff forces on them even when they obviously have the vocal ability, because a huge part of their job is looking good on camera and their visual appearance, I honestly think that those 2 things are a bigger part of their job than singing is, because of how popular plastic surgery is there and not to mention the fact that the slightest imperfection on stage or off stage will have a lot of people complaining. Waiting for someone to say that I'm just making excuses.
its okey they use backtrack as long as their own voice, rather than lipsync using backup singers voice. they have to protect their voice because sometimes they heavily perform on many concert with very pack schedule without proper rest flying from one place to another place. even you talk everyday without stopping for 3 hour without rest, you might loose your own voice on a long term.

They were giving excuses like "tHeY wErE tIrEd" and comparing me to them saying things like "You try singing and dancing at the same time then" like...🤣
They do have backing tracks but it's on the quieter side compared to other groups. Also doesn't hurt that EXO takes vocals seriously --- they still take vocal lessons. They know they have the talent and they still continue to work on improving, that's why they're very comfortable singing live, acapella, etc. Can't wait for their next tour as a full group!

I just came from Baekhyun's concert last night (Manila con), his mic's on but most stages have backing vocals 😊 also been to their EXplOration leg here, and I accept the fact that they have quiet backing vocals because concerts are tiring, especially they have to dance a lot and sing high notes. 😉

So I thought they would make Wendy lipsync for her 2nd album since it has choreo but I was very pleasantly surprised to see all her stages were very clearly live. I don't know about other SM soloists, I haven't watched their stages.

The Killing Voice edit of Mamamoo is an interesting example because like... Hwasa was ill that day, so to a certain degree, I could actually understand a limited amount of editing to support her. But they didn't have to go so far and edit everybody, especially so obviously. It would have been better to use a light hand and then just disclose it ("All the vocals here were live, but some edits were made to support X, because they were still recovering from the flu.")
All Korean shows do auto tune no matter who appears…from Wendy to EXO to Btob to Ailee. Even American shows do it to a degree like The Voice. It didn’t matter if Hwasa was sick or not, the Korean shows AUTOTUNE regardless.
All music shows around the world do it. The microphone is designed to enhance the vocal input from the singer. Can one of the greats like Beyoncé sing, of course, no question. but if she did a Killing Voice, they would edit it and autotune it to make great sounder even greater. THIS! Dingo should've used other type of microphone, the ones that are not widely sensitive (or maybe just put the boys a bit further from each other). They should've known the type of artist they're inviting. BTOB is known for their complex vocal layering and harmonization, as well as being a loud ass vocalist. Because of this unrealistic edited performance, we couldn't get to properly hear members' belting and adlibs in some songs and Eunkwang's extended high note in Finale. The four-way high note harmony in It's Okay and I'll Be Your Man also sounds off cause I'm sure the voices are overlapping with each other's mic so Dingo really had to edit it in some way.
Bro I literally came here bc I’ve been complaining this about my faves (nugu group btw). They just had a comeback recently and I see alot of people preaching how great their “live vocals” are in showcase and music shows but really, it sounded very much pre-recorded. I can tell by the lack of movements in their voices while singing, and I’m surprised many fail to see that. They are my ult group and I’m sorry but no. I ain’t defending them for this. K-pop is the most tricky thing, I always thought I was good at identifying live and edited singing, but in K-pop it's very difficult with so much editing, strong tracks, pre-recordings, it's crazy. I don't understand why they want everything to be so metrically perfect, it's ridiculous and annoying, at least for me.
The companies fear that their artists looks like they dont sing perfect like the other artists with edited vocals, so no one wants to be the first to stop doing it, because the standars are stupidly high right now with all this edited vocals, for example people wanted to cancel Aespa for singing bad at Coachella(????????), and now they are praising Aespa sing at Coachella to cancel Le Seraphim for singing bad at Coachella, the irony. Another fact that comes to the table is fanbases, big part of Aespa being cancelled for singing bad at coachella(????????) was blackpink fanbase, so if you stop editing your artists, other fanbases will use the chance of those raw vocals to attack your group because they will sound worst than the edited standard.
Because it is simply impossible to have a stable industry in which it is about creating a band every year of the 8 most beautiful singers who dance and who sound minimally in tune, without using autotune.
That's why I'm glad exo's concert tour(at least their concert footages) were kept as minimum as possible with post production, especially after exo'rdium tour. If they went off key, you can definitely noticed. Today's fanmeeting too, I'm glad they keep it as raw as they can.

Live shows are mix of live singing and lipsynch, they need to retake a lot of times in order to get all camera angles and it would take atleast 2-3 hrs for them to shoot an entire performance, so there were takes that they do live sing and other parts were they take only dance angles they lip synch. This does not apply only to baemon
This is why other than music show encores and concert encores, I always hope for any of the members from my fav groups to do some singing for like 1 min just for fun in live stream (vlive for an example) or them dropping suddenly a song cover like that 😅 (Hope I’m not the only one who ask for this type of genuine vocal content lol)

I swear to you Mamamoo concert fancam sound better than any show, any MV of them. All of my favorite playlist from them are filled with fancam/concert clip. You can check out 4x4, My Star, Dark Romance, Timeline, etc concert videos. Sound way better than official sound track
The good thing about live is it’s lively, it’s emotional. A live performance doesn’t need and shouldn’t be exactly like the MV. People now care too much about the technical issues and forget that music should be a way to express emotions and connect people together
The way most of the examples are from SM definitely proves they provide and acknowledge the importance of vocals in music. I actually wonder if 'that' company will reign as the number 1 (considering the situation of SM rn), what would happen to Kpop music? Love them or hate them fancams done by fansites have the best live performances especially the ones from festivals and concert, you can pinpoint if the backtrack's too loud or not. SM and YG artists' live performances have been the ones i like watching so far
Probabaly 1 of the reasons why some EXO members initially back out due to production issues. EXO members are so vocal about alteration. They know that their lives sound better than the post productions. And might also be the reason why EXO's episode has the most raw vocals in Killing Voice per music producers and vocal coaches, the production team had to heed.
Dreamcatcher. Yes! That's why they're my only stan. Live and every member is a top shelf vocalist. I have no time for most Kpop because too much is fake. The agencies care most about what the girls look like and whether they can dance well. Those two things can't be easily fixed, but mediocre singing can be processed out. All this happened because Kpop has always been performed to recorded music which makes it simple to fix the vocals and just add them to the instrument tracks. Dreamcatcher use a live band whenever possible and you can't fake vocals with a live band.

People are praising them because they know BM members are capable of singing live. Ahyeon and Rami were singing in Knowing Brother, a variety show TV, where I highly doubt the crew were editing their singing like how music show did. They deserve the praise because they are indeed have amazing vocals and able to perform well live. And just because the video is edited, doesn't mean they don't sing live when the recording happen.

That is true I'm just happy I could say confidently that new jeans is one of those groups that actually sounds pretty good live, at least when it comes to encore. Another source of unedited vocal clips is musicals!! It's limited because not many idols can get a role, and a lot of productions don't allow recording, but it's been getting easier. For one, a lot of idols are getting casted (granted some of them feels very much for popularity purpose), and musicals nowadays show the rehearsals or even just party performance for the production where the idols + the other actors casted for the same role song together.
To name a few, there's Eunji, Changsub, Kyuhyun, Suho and some others. The rehearsals especially will allow you to gauge how good the singer is because you'll be able to listen the difference in body, control, weight and just the power of actual musical theatre actors and you can compare how the idols do in comparison. Usually, they're on the weaker side, but it's still very much great to hear!

The unfortunate thing is the bm girls are very capable of singing live. I think the mcountdown performance or some music show performance, they did sing over their pre recorded vocals and while the pre-recorded vocals were much louder, I could tell that these girls were pretty good live singers. I hope they have actual vocal moments like bp so that we can hear their vocals in their full glory

Most survival shows are heavily edited. And when some people are made to sing without editing, they usually use that to evil edit, but they edit their faves to sound good. In Universe ticket it was pretty obvious the clips were all edited. But most of the girls that debuted can actually sing live. It just sucks that they edit things to sound perfect, even when they don't have to.
unfortunately even some "recording behind the scenes" are heavily edited. I'm surprised at the lack of the "It's Live" youtube channel in this video. People eat that up and basically all comments are "So StAbLe" "sounds just like the recording". I love "It's Live" and the "First take" tbh, I just know as a musician that it's all fake, unlike 95% of the public apparently.
Yes the unrealistic expextations of kpop fans are a big problem in kpop but they are indeed a product of the 💯 perfect image of the idols. I hope "fans" wont use this as an opportunity to hate on idols who have their vocals edited. The only way we can get more raw performances is if we stream it more in comparison to perfect vocals we expected when these idols are moving around.

I once really said in a babymonster subreddit that one of the live performances of Batter Up wasnt really live, and they HAAAAATED me. Like, it was so obvious, not only it was edited, it was clearly different takes (the voice and the visuals did not match)
EXO has tons of raw videos singing from their IG lives, bubble messages to just impromptu requests from fans and shows they've attended. Then there's the recording behind the scenes which only recently SM "finally" realised to release. I've heard 5 out of 9 them in separate concerts, one very recently with Baekhyun, though there are backing tracks it's quite and they don't lipsync if they missed to sing a certain line, they just let the backing track play but then they will sing again and then you can really tell it's them. They only use the backing tracks on choreographed songs but no backing track on slow songs. I was privileged to hear Baekhyun during his sound check and I had literal goosebumps from hearing how beautiful his live vocal is. Chen is next level great vocal definitely. EXO can definitely sing. If the company ask them to lip sync or edit too much, it's on them.
The reason is that fans tend to make a competition out of everything, that's why they have to correct mistakes, otherwise haters would tear people up. As for myself, I don't mind a few weaknesses, esp together with dancing, but sometimes the venue conditions are also so bad that even the best sing off key and that's really painful to listen to. I'd rather have that corrected, when I know that my favs can sing in general I don't mind that. So it depends.
As a SKZ stan, I'm soooo much into live performances and live vocals, use pre-recording is ok, I always understand that someone sing live, because SKZ always sing and rap in real and I’m used to hearing that vibe. Too much editing is always an obvious to me))
Why am I not surprised on those live clip examples. It's the same great vocalists. We let people not listen to real live vocals now they are delusional that their idols are great live singers. No singer is perfect, everybody has bad days but WTF is this delusion that some idols are great singers when they are not. Let idols sing live. Live vocals give the voice personality.
@@djvillanfor real but i honestly think they don’t even know how to mix Solar’s vocals properly. Often times it would be extremely loud then you can barely hear her during the soft parts of the song. Like they got lazy and just kept her mic volume at low because they know she would belt. I attended one of their concerts and she sounded amazing with consistent resonance as she has proper mic technique too. That’s why Mamamoo fancams sound better than overly produced proshots. The girls are seasoned performers,they don’t need fixing.
There's only one Unedited Killing Voice video and it's the one dingo mistakingly posted. We can say it was a misshap, blame on it being the first ever killing voice that was made but... the truth it that if anyone wants to check it out, Mamamoo's raw killing voice is here on youtube. It was really funny (and confusing) when they privated and reuploaded in a span of like... 2h. Especially since the original video was already so good no one even questioned it.... The main changes are the leveling of the volumes between the mics and them pitching Moon's voice higher (HONESTLY WHY THE F* WOULD YOU DO THAT??? SHE SOUNDS SO MUCH BETTER IN THE RAW 😭😭😭😭😭) Anyways it's nice that we can compare the two videos and see the changes they made. Do I wish they would've done WAAAAY less? Yes. It was veryyyy informative stating the facts on how live singing videos like the Dingo Killng voices and It's Live and other platform shows like those go about it and I did enjoy the actual "live singing compilation" because I do love and truly appreciate live vocals very much.
12:13 i still don’t get why in most of their performances, the backtrack has to be 5x louder than their live vocals because this clip here proves how well they sing without it. Especially when at least once in all of their performances, their vocals (mostly Siyeon) overpowers the backtrack. LIKE LET THEM SING!!!
The only place to hear live vocals is some of 3rd gen and majority of 2nd gen. They were SINGINGGGGGG, the isssue is now they only care about dancing which is why these idols are either vocally challenged (not trained enough) or not allowed to sing live anymore even if they can sing.
Encore was supposed to be a celebration with fans so it tends to be just relaxing or maybe chaotic but nowadays, it's an outlet of constant bashing and it's kinda sad. For backtrack, I think it's a must since people tend to look things perfectly and if that's a way to protect the artists then that's fine since you can still hear the actual voice anyway. And personally, I see things in an overall perspective so things like imperfections don't bother me and maybe because we have a lot of belter type of vocals in our country that's why I like kpop more because it's kinda different and I like singing+dancing more that belter singing.

Live vocals should be live. Simple as that. I mean, why label it as live, if your going to edit it to the point it doesn't even sound like them singing? And they often don't do a very good job at the vocal "touch ups". Sometimes the editing of the vocals is so obvious, not to mention, pooly done, they end up sounding like Alastor from Hazbin Hotel. Like, if your going to edit vocals, you could at least make it sound good. Isn't the point of the editing to make it sound "good" ?

True. Many fans have never heard real live. Being able to sing is one thing while being able to sing and dance simultaneously is another whole different skill set. Even Beyoncé doesn’t sing an entire song while dancing without a little help of back track in certain parts.

I'm so sick of a very loud "backing track" on music shows or even on concerts. Like, yeah. You have to protect your artists to look good all the times but damn, it's their jobs and no one force them to be a singer.
It's part of their job and they are still doing their job even with overuse of backtracking that their staff forces on them even when they obviously have the vocal ability, because a huge part of their job is looking good on camera and their visual appearance, I honestly think that those 2 things are a bigger part of their job than singing is, because of how popular plastic surgery is there and not to mention the fact that the slightest imperfection on stage or off stage will have a lot of people complaining. Waiting for someone to say that I'm just making excuses.

They do have backing tracks but it's on the quieter side compared to other groups. Also doesn't hurt that EXO takes vocals seriously --- they still take vocal lessons. They know they have the talent and they still continue to work on improving, that's why they're very comfortable singing live, acapella, etc. Can't wait for their next tour as a full group!

I don't know about other SM soloists, I haven't watched their stages.

The Killing Voice edit of Mamamoo is an interesting example because like... Hwasa was ill that day, so to a certain degree, I could actually understand a limited amount of editing to support her. But they didn't have to go so far and edit everybody, especially so obviously. It would have been better to use a light hand and then just disclose it ("All the vocals here were live, but some edits were made to support X, because they were still recovering from the flu.")

All Korean shows do auto tune no matter who appears…from Wendy to EXO to Btob to Ailee. Even American shows do it to a degree like The Voice. It didn’t matter if Hwasa was sick or not, the Korean shows AUTOTUNE regardless.
All music shows around the world do it. The microphone is designed to enhance the vocal input from the singer. Can one of the greats like Beyoncé sing, of course, no question. but if she did a Killing Voice, they would edit it and autotune it to make great sounder even greater. THIS! Dingo should've used other type of microphone, the ones that are not widely sensitive (or maybe just put the boys a bit further from each other). They should've known the type of artist they're inviting. BTOB is known for their complex vocal layering and harmonization, as well as being a loud ass vocalist. Because of this unrealistic edited performance, we couldn't get to properly hear members' belting and adlibs in some songs and Eunkwang's extended high note in Finale. The four-way high note harmony in It's Okay and I'll Be Your Man also sounds off cause I'm sure the voices are overlapping with each other's mic so Dingo really had to edit it in some way.

They just had a comeback recently and I see alot of people preaching how great their “live vocals” are in showcase and music shows but really, it sounded very much pre-recorded. K-pop is the most tricky thing, I always thought I was good at identifying live and edited singing, but in K-pop it's very difficult with so much editing, strong tracks, pre-recordings, it's crazy. I don't understand why they want everything to be so metrically perfect, it's ridiculous and annoying, at least for me.
The companies fear that their artists looks like they dont sing perfect like the other artists with edited vocals, so no one wants to be the first to stop doing it, because the standars are stupidly high right now with all this edited vocals, for example people wanted to cancel Aespa for singing bad at Coachella(????????), and now they are praising Aespa sing at Coachella to cancel Le Seraphim for singing bad at Coachella, the irony.
Another fact that comes to the table is fanbases, big part of Aespa being cancelled for singing bad at coachella(????????) was blackpink fanbase, so if you stop editing your artists, other fanbases will use the chance of those raw vocals to attack your group because they will sound worst than the edited standard.
Because it is simply impossible to have a stable industry in which it is about creating a band every year of the 8 most beautiful singers who dance and who sound minimally in tune, without using autotune.

Live shows are mix of live singing and lipsynch, they need to retake a lot of times in order to get all camera angles and it would take atleast 2-3 hrs for them to shoot an entire performance, so there were takes that they do live sing and other parts were they take only dance angles they lip synch. This does not apply only to baemon

The good thing about live is it’s lively, it’s emotional. A live performance doesn’t need and shouldn’t be exactly like the MV. People now care too much about the technical issues and forget that music should be a way to express emotions and connect people together

Love them or hate them fancams done by fansites have the best live performances especially the ones from festivals and concert, you can pinpoint if the backtrack's too loud or not. SM and YG artists' live performances have been the ones i like watching so far

Probabaly 1 of the reasons why some EXO members initially back out due to production issues. EXO members are so vocal about alteration. They know that their lives sound better than the post productions. And might also be the reason why EXO's episode has the most raw vocals in Killing Voice per music producers and vocal coaches, the production team had to heed.
Dreamcatcher. Yes! That's why they're my only stan. Live and every member is a top shelf vocalist. I have no time for most Kpop because too much is fake. The agencies care most about what the girls look like and whether they can dance well. Those two things can't be easily fixed, but mediocre singing can be processed out. All this happened because Kpop has always been performed to recorded music which makes it simple to fix the vocals and just add them to the instrument tracks. Dreamcatcher use a live band whenever possible and you can't fake vocals with a live band.

I watched Huening Kai’s Lee Mujin service and I think he still sounds himself, he definitely is versatile in voice. Same for other artists sounding good. Maybe sometimes a little too good, especially the artists that are known to struggle vocally singing great suddenly…

7:49 i dont think all recording videos are even 100% raw nowadays. in newjeans supershy recording videos you can hear some tiny pitch corrections here and there if you listen closely. not tryna bring newjeans down but its just reality nowadays.
That is true I'm just happy I could say confidently that new jeans is one of those groups that actually sounds pretty good live, at least when it comes to encore. They're the only people with JK I've heard people praise when it comes to hybe artists. I just wish that like hybe realize that they don't need to correct everything.

Another source of unedited vocal clips is musicals!! It's limited because not many idols can get a role, and a lot of productions don't allow recording, but it's been getting easier. For one, a lot of idols are getting casted (granted some of them feels very much for popularity purpose), and musicals nowadays show the rehearsals or even just party performance for the production where the idols + the other actors casted for the same role song together.
To name a few, there's Eunji, Changsub, Kyuhyun, Suho and some others. The rehearsals especially will allow you to gauge how good the singer is because you'll be able to listen the difference in body, control, weight and just the power of actual musical theatre actors and you can compare how the idols do in comparison. Usually, they're on the weaker side, but it's still very much great to hear!

I think the mcountdown performance or some music show performance, they did sing over their pre recorded vocals and while the pre-recorded vocals were much louder, I could tell that these girls were pretty good live singers. I hope they have actual vocal moments like bp so that we can hear their vocals in their full glory

Most survival shows are heavily edited. And when some people are made to sing without editing, they usually use that to evil edit, but they edit their faves to sound good.
In Universe ticket it was pretty obvious the clips were all edited. But most of the girls that debuted can actually sing live. It just sucks that they edit things to sound perfect, even when they don't have to.
unfortunately even some "recording behind the scenes" are heavily edited. I'm surprised at the lack of the "It's Live" youtube channel in this video. People eat that up and basically all comments are "So StAbLe" "sounds just like the recording". I love "It's Live" and the "First take" tbh, I just know as a musician that it's all fake, unlike 95% of the public apparently.
For the First Take tho is it just happening for kpop idols? Revenge takes are a thing in First Take so I actually see some of them make minor mistakes
Yes the unrealistic expextations of kpop fans are a big problem in kpop but they are indeed a product of the 💯 perfect image of the idols. EXO has tons of raw videos singing from their IG lives, bubble messages to just impromptu requests from fans and shows they've attended. Then there's the recording behind the scenes which only recently SM "finally" realised to release. I've heard 5 out of 9 them in separate concerts, one very recently with Baekhyun, though there are backing tracks it's quite and they don't lipsync if they missed to sing a certain line, they just let the backing track play but then they will sing again and then you can really tell it's them. They only use the backing tracks on choreographed songs but no backing track on slow songs. I was privileged to hear Baekhyun during his sound check and I had literal goosebumps from hearing how beautiful his live vocal is. Chen is next level great vocal definitely. EXO can definitely sing. If the company ask them to lip sync or edit too much, it's on them.
The reason is that fans tend to make a competition out of everything, that's why they have to correct mistakes, otherwise haters would tear people up. As for myself, I don't mind a few weaknesses, esp together with dancing, but sometimes the venue conditions are also so bad that even the best sing off key and that's really painful to listen to. I'd rather have that corrected, when I know that my favs can sing in general I don't mind that. So it depends.
As a SKZ stan, I'm soooo much into live performances and live vocals, use pre-recording is ok, I always understand that someone sing live, because SKZ always sing and rap in real and I’m used to hearing that vibe.

Which is why Babymetal has a Queen of song and two Angels of Dance. Su Metal concentrates on singing while the other two concentrate on dancing.
Why am I not surprised on those live clip examples. It's the same great vocalists. We let people not listen to real live vocals now they are delusional that their idols are great live singers. No singer is perfect, everybody has bad days but WTF is this delusion that some idols are great singers when they are not. Let idols sing live. Live vocals give the voice personality.

@@djvillanfor real but i honestly think they don’t even know how to mix Solar’s vocals properly. Often times it would be extremely loud then you can barely hear her during the soft parts of the song. Like they got lazy and just kept her mic volume at low because they know she would belt. I attended one of their concerts and she sounded amazing with consistent resonance as she has proper mic technique too. That’s why Mamamoo fancams sound better than overly produced proshots. The girls are seasoned performers,they don’t need fixing.

The only place to hear live vocals is some of 3rd gen and majority of 2nd gen. They were SINGINGGGGGG, the isssue is now they only care about dancing which is why these idols are either vocally challenged (not trained enough) or not allowed to sing live anymore even if they can sing.

Encore was supposed to be a celebration with fans so it tends to be just relaxing or maybe chaotic but nowadays, it's an outlet of constant bashing and it's kinda sad. For backtrack, I think it's a must since people tend to look things perfectly and if that's a way to protect the artists then that's fine since you can still hear the actual voice anyway. And personally, I see things in an overall perspective so things like imperfections don't bother me and maybe because we have a lot of belter type of vocals in our country that's why I like kpop more because it's kinda different and I like singing+dancing more that belter singing.
