Kyle Rittenhouse corrects every interviewer that calls him a hero. He says "I am not a hero."
He's humble but he's wrong. The poor kid dedicated his life to community service - cleaning, helping, defending. He was in fireman mentorship programs, police mentorship programs, and wanted to be a EMT. He was will to put himself in direct danger that night to both defend his town and help anyone injured with his limited medical skills. That is hero through and through, a person willing to consistently put themselves in harms way to help. Just because Kyle is also humble and doesn't call himself a hero doesn't mean he isn't

Wouldn't ever call him a hero, but protesting doesn't give you the right to destroy other people's property, loot and burn shit down or block streets so others can't get where they are going. Coming to my property thinking you can, will be the last bad decision you make.
He shouldn’t have felt like he needed to step up because our system failed him and the cities. If law enforcement did what they were supposed to do under those circumstances, Kyle wouldn’t have felt the need to step up for humanity.

I took the Rittenhouse line pretty much the same way. The heroes are the ones that wrote the Constitution. Kyle was just using his Constitutional rights and won his case. The heroes gave him the power to defend himself. Loved your reaction! #HOG4EVER

Why was a 17 year old trying to stop his city from being burned down? People forget the reason why he was there was because all the grown ups were doing nothing while the cities were burned down. The shooting isn't what made him a hero. It was standing up when everyone else INCLUDING TOM was sitting down.
I have a hard time with that line. Kyle was there cleaning up after riots and protecting his town. He was dedicated to community service, having been in various mentorship programs with the fire station and others. he wanted to be an EMT. He put himself in harms way to help people. And then he defended himself when attacked. Kyle was a hero, and as much as I love Tom that line was off. Kyle is exactly the kind of hero we need, not because of that night, but because of his dedication to his community and bravery.
Glad you gave me this perspective because that was the first time a line in his music kinda upset me.
Tom's not saying what Kyle did was wrong. He's saying no one is calling the people who gave us the Constitution a hero. People are condemning the Constitution and it needs to stop. We the people need to be thanking them for giving us the right to defend ourselves.

A hero is some one who is brave enough to stand up against something, one with courage for a purpose who risks their own life for others. I think that fits the Rittenhouse kid. All of us watched it on TV. He was pretty brave to even go there. I thank anyone who is brave enough to stand up for our rights.
I consider him a hero. He tried to defend the city against all odds, and risked his life when the police wouldn’t even do anything. We need more young people like him who haven’t given up yet, or become so jaded or selfish that they’re not willing to do what’s needed to be done. Then he wouldn’t have been alone.

The Rittenhouse line is great. Yes, Kyle had every right to defend himself but a hero🤷♀️. This is why I love Tom. He calls the ish out on both sides. He shines a bright light on the SYSTEM!
No. Kyle was a hero. He was there cleaning up his town (literally, washing walls), defending a town against riots, and offering medical care during dangerous times. He was dedicated to community service, being in mentoring programs with a local fire station and other groups, and wanted to be an EMT. He was willing to put himself in dangerous situations to help people. And that night he defended himself. He's not a hero because of that night, he's a hero because of how he lived. But he is still a hero. I love Tom but Tom got that line wrong.
And Tom is 100% wrong because Kyle was a hero because he was there trying to stop the town from being burned down even though he was risking his life to do it. That’s a hero in everybody’s book. He may have been naïve to try to do it alone, but his heart was in the right place, and he tried his best. Everyone fixated on the shooting was missing the whole point.

Another excellent analysis as always Nick. Interesting point's of view. I always thought of Kyle as a kid in an impossible predicament where he had to do. He stood up for himself and proved that yes we as a people are allowed to do so. Basically it's bigger than Kyle it's about keeping and saving our 2A rights. That's my opinion.
EXACTLY…Tom can make you see the Bigger Picture and understand what’s going on in the world and how everything is connected, in one way or another, and points out all of the intentional distractions most fall for so the masses are seeing or even aware of the big picture…

If defending others from being harmed, such that you risk your own life, is not a hero, I don’t know what a hero is.
Not even Kyle wanted to be called a hero, Kyle was a boy that saved his own life and the constitution saved him from prosecution, A hero is someone who saves others lives at the risk of their own, don't get me wrong I thank god that Kyle was not killed he didn't deserve anything that happened to him.
Do you not know what Kyle was doing there? He was trying to stop them from burning the town down. I think that fits the definition of hero. He was risking his own life to try to stop them from burning down buildings and killing people. The whole reason he ended up getting chased and shot at was because he was trying to stop them from lighting fires and they did not appreciate it.

It's because it's a bad take. I call Kyle a hero because of his lifestyle (dedicated to public service, willing to endanger himself for others) not because of that specific night. His entire childhood and goals were aligned with public service. Literal hero.

Gen Xer here… I remember my American History teacher (strict but cool) would not only throw erasers at our head if we talked or had gum, but if you did anything wrong she made us write the preamble to the constitution, or the entire constitution as punishment (multiple times). She even went through Billy Joel’s We Didn’t Start the fire to make sure we understood every part referenced. She was a great teacher, 30 years later I’m still thankful for her teaching style. I think todays kids couldn’t receipt even one line of the constitution today.

In regards to Rittenhouse and Floyd remarks, my perception is Tom is simply stating with impartiality that both persons are placed on pedestals by Americans; one as a hero for defending himself and one as a martyr for social injustices.
