Devon Grimes is a Brooklyn, New York based artist, painter, florist, hand model, food stylist, and much more as that's what it takes to live in NYC. Come along for this tour of her 380 sq ft Bushwick/Ridgewood studio where she lives with her dog Betty, and finds a way to paint regularly despite the small space. She also has one of the prettiest kitchens that she self-renovated, and filled with plants, and art.

It's a great studio! It seems to have tall ceilings, which make a huge difference in it not feeling claustrophobic/small.
Don't feel bad about the apartment being small, maybe North Americans aren't very familiar with smaller (normal to me) liviny spaces, but a LOT of other countries do!
I am Dutch and my apartment is also 35m2, and I live in a village, it's normal here, as it is in many other countries.
Honestly, I love how creative it makes people, how all of us make it work, it's great.
Thank you for sharing your living experience, and detailed comment. I'm so curious to see how spaces look, and are decorated in the Netherlands. Hopefully, I can do some home tours out there one day!
@@MitchGeng Well, home tours, particularly of small(er) apartments are some of my favourite videos too, so you are definitely not alone!
I think it is wonderful when someone is so generous to offer us a speak peak of their (very personal) living space.
I can't remember who the artist was, but there was an artist who photographed apartments of people who lived in the same apartment building (in New York if I remember correctly), often underneath one and other, so with the exact same layout.
I absolutely loved seeing how everyone had such completely different apartments. Everyone's home was so unique!
I am sure there are many beautiful, cute, quirky, stunning, tiny apartments in Europe (Paris has some of my favourites) for you to film.

I also wanted to add, that I loved how she kept her grandmother’s perfume bottles. I came across my mom’s and also saved it. I take a whiff every now and then. It smells just like her.
Love this apartment! I’m an artist, too and this is so much nicer than anything I lived in when I was renting. She’s put so much thought and care into the space. It doesn’t even seem that small in the video.
I really love her art, and the way she's incorporated storage and practical needs so well into a tiny apartment. I'm glad she has this flat, in fact, because artists NEED good light, and it definitely has that! What a nice vibe. Cute doggie, too. My favorite room....hmmm.....probably the kitchen. Love the window with all the plants and the painting behind the fridge. BTW yes, that bathroom cabinet is old, probably original, early 20th century. Love it. That's the joy of rentals; they don't get all the original history and character "renovated" out of them as homes that pass from owner to owner so often do. I saw an apt. on YT recently (in NYC) that was part of a 19th century brownstone. The main room had an incredible Victorian window--hard to even describe--and molding and stained glass. The bathroom had original and exquisite Victorian tile, and as it had probably originally been a scullery or similar kitchen-type room, it had a tiny original tiled fireplace and dumbwaiter as well. Can you imagine? Rare enough in a rental, a real unicorn in a purchased home.
I think it's her personality and lovely sense of subtle humor that really makes her place shine -stuff is stuff but an interesting person is what makes all the things she has interesting - at least that was my epiphany when watching this video -- I think that is why style is hard to copy, it's like taking someone else's personality -- Okay , okay...I've gone much deeper than I meant to -- I intended to say... Nice Video, I like it!

Ok you’re used to your space so forget about the charm that it communicates! I used to live in the city, so I get the challenge of living and affording NY. Your kitchen is adorable. You did an amazing job. Mitch, great shot of her living space - living area and bedroom so we could see the whole layout and charm of her personal touches. And the before/after of the kitchen. Think of your apt. As if you were in a different country. You would immediately think it is incredible charming and a gem. You have done an amazing job making it homey and charming, and added an incredibly amount of style.

I would've made the alcove the Ikea closet & workshop (with storage) and would've split the main area into the bedroom and living room. If organized correctly, it wouldn't feel so cramped.
When someone says they built their own furniture, I imagine more going into it than just buying pre-fab and assembling it.
She still built it herself. Be kind.

Don't live in New York I live in a Canadian city and I've always lived in very small spaces. It's great to have multi-functional furniture. But I also have people that are like you have way too much stuff no it all fits no matter what apartment I move into which I move every year year and a half to the circumstance it all fits and I do it that way so that I can have multi-functional furniture and use it for different things every time I move.
