  • By any name, Yusuf Islam is a legend. The man who came to fame as Cat Stevens will soon release a new album, a collection of songs he made famous half a century ago and has now re-recorded with the perspective that 50 years of living can bring. Correspondent Tracy Smith talks with Yusuf about recording "Tea for the Tillerman 2," including his duet with his younger self for the song "Father and Son."

      Alhamdoulilah he reverted, but music is not permissible to listen to let alone produce as it was the cause of the first major sin committed in a large gathering, Zina gathered around music. Many Muslims are sympathetic to music especially religious/peace inciting tunes. But I can’t just follow my nafs and disregard our prophets words and Allah’s prohibition in favor of my own pleasure. Don’t forget that peeps. Much love.

      @@medowatcher I have been told that there is disagreement amongst scholars as to what is haram and halal regarding music. That one can listen to a symphony but not heavy metal or vulgar rap songs. We all do the best we can. If Allah forbade all music then why create it?

      @medowatcher 3 роки тому +8

      @@katstephens6571 There is no disagreement at all between any major established scholars actually. Not sure where you heard that. The hadith is quite clear,
      The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Among my ummah there will be people who will regard as permissible adultery, silk, alcohol and musical instruments.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5590). See also: al-Silsilah al-Saheehah by al-Albaani (91).
      As to your last question the answer is simpler than you think, to test you/us. Allah created many evil things in order to try us and see what we’d embrace, his remembrance through Quran etc or music. 💭

    His music is one of a kind. I was 9 years old and hitched hiking to the beach in calif with my babysitter.... mom knew, but thought we had a ride.. it was a magical time and I'll never forget it. I'm 59 now and everytime I hear him it takes me back to fun times.. His music will always be in my heart ❤. doesn't matter what religion he is he bleeds red. ❤💙❤

    I am so very pleased that he has come full circle with music, his music after decades of being uncertain of it. I heard him speak in Brunei in 1996 and he was a long wY from where he is now. Brilliant gift and I'm sure he knows now it is God given for a purpose. I'm a Christian but/and I feel a close affinity with the man as he us now. I'm going to buy his new Tea for the Tillerman which is one of my all time favorite albums. Love it.

      @@blackmore4 I remember this. I bought the book the day it came out. Over 30 years have gone by since. Do you think people cannot change in such a span of time? Or, do you think that his "return to musick" is for monetary gain only? Or, do you believe he has not changed at all?
