Diana Ross & The Supremes - Hits Medley (Supremefan's Tribute to Florence Ballard)

- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- I originally posted this back in 2006 and it was one on my most popular video. I made it to honor my favorite female group...Diana Ross and The Supremes. Even though there are clips of Cindy Birdsong, I decided to dedicate this to Florence Ballard so that people can remember her important contributions to this iconic group. The song is called 'The Supremes Hit Medley' and it appears on Diana Ross' 2 cd deluxe edition of 'diana'. If you enjoy this, please watch my tributes to Diana Ross 'Remember Me' and to the WTC, 9/11 - 'Hope Is An Open Window'.
ATTENTION: Please pray for Cindy Birdsong. According to reports, she can't speak or walk & is being fed through a feeding tube due to a stroke she had 7 yrs ago.
🙏

i’m praying ffor for her now. but do realize tht God might end her suffering by bringing her hoos or leave her here on earth to finish atask she needs to do. we will never know. but don’t give up hope, he will answer our prayers in ways we will probably neverknow why.
Can't believe it's been 60 years since this music came out! Still makes me want to move and groove!
Me too
Love them 🤩
Oh yeah makes me feel like I'm a kid again. Still gets this 68 year old young bidy moving and groiving
They had understated CLASS. Their moves were simple, not over-the-top. Their voices, look, and focus made, and still make, them original. What a stage presence.
Ross's talent, moves, voice was second nature, plus proverbial cool strut and shuffle.
Having a bit of a cry!
No im not Im having alot of a cry!
I m so pleased to be my age (70) I got them the first time around.
Florence had the better voice but berry Gordy said Diana's was more commercial.
🙆Really !🙋
She did not, don’t be stupid! They were all average singers if truth be told. But Florence was the weakest. Most people don’t even know her name, she was that great right? Get a grip.

Simply put The Greatest Girl Group. I grew up listening to them through the greatest of times.
The Supremes had such style and grace and they had the greatest songs that will live forever!!

I think I'm getting obsessed with them. Can't get enough of their music. The baddest girl group ever.👍

Badest girls?

Now I can understand why British pop musicians at that time drooled for these charming and sweet African-American singers: They are the best.

One of MY FAVORITE SINING GROUPS
Tom Jones had an affair with Mary Wilson!
I’ve been listening to the supremes and the temptations my whole life and I’m probably going to forever. Love this music with my heart and soul. RIP to David, Paul, Florence, Mary, Eddie, Dennis, Melvin and Elbridge without them this music wouldn’t be so great and very special. Thank you! For the Music! 🪄🎶🎤❤️🕊
Florence Ballad**
Florence Ballad Was "The Supreme" Of The Supremes!!!!!** She Was The Founder Of The Group; The One Who Got The Group To Stay Together As One.**
Fame Can Build Up, And Fame Can Tear Down. Sure, Florence May Have Had Some Hang-Ups, But Don't We All?? She Was Treated Unfairly And That Got The Best Of Her. Beautiful, Attractive, So Talented, And She Also Had A Soulful Ballad Voice!!!!!** Motown Could Have Supported Her More, In Her "Time Of Need." **Peace**
elder...she was raped in the very beginning. she was scared! thanks to mary & diana's support she found her way back. even though it was in the very early days of the supremes they knew it wouldn't be the same without her. it's sad that she is gone...and now mary...we have lost the BEST of the 60' & 70's. i will still listen to them everyday!

is it true that Diana killed her?!?!?

When all my school friends were into The Beatles or Rolling Stones,I was hooked on Motown as soon as I heard The Supremes and The Four Tops. Now,at 72 still loving it. You cannot forget such amazing talent.
At 72, I'm still lovin' it too! MOTOWN FOREVER! SUPREMES RULE!❤😊

In addition to being THE best girl group ever Mary Wilson was so cute.

SUPREMES stood the test of time. Not one girl group now compares to them . Those were good times!!!!
They just kept pumping amazing pop songs out of Detroit and no group is more iconic to that era than the wonderful Supremes... bravo
Diana Ross and The Supremes was a super good band that I loved in my earlier years. Still love them nowadays. So I can catch tben on UA-cam.
My mom's favorite and she turned me on to motown...ty mom...R.I.P...
I do not think I can ever get enough of the Supremes I can listen to the Supremes every day.
Made. My marriage
Me too lol I’m OBSESSED
All three of these ladies are American Icons.
You did a fantastic job! And using the STEREO recordings is just pure genius! Thank you for sharing!!
This is the Motown record Supreme’s Medley Of Hits. It was a hit in the discos in 1980. They used the original recordings and added new drums and bass to perk up the record to play in the discos and make it easy for the DJ’s to mix it in their sets of non stop music in the clubs.
The best day, s of my life… Met my love of my life in 1969!!!!!
Very cool, My sister was into soul. I was in grade school and would come home from school and she had the Supremes on the record player. She has passed on and this vidieo has brought sister Patty back. Cool. They had soul. Peace. Greg-Zuan.
I love this song by DIANA ROSS AND THE SUPREMES
So talented group. Never tire of hearing these oldies but goodies. Memories of days gone by, but the music lives on. Thanks for sharing.
Supremes are top, but this medley reminds me when I saw them in 1967 in Europe. They did a medley, it lasted about 40 minutes. Everybody was so disappointed, I can still feel it now, seriously. But I saw them! Never forgot it!
The concert only lasted 40 minutes?
Someday we’ll be together has a special place in my heart; literally one of the best song ever made
These are the songs that never grow old.
Forever And Always The Late Great Florence Ballard ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾⭐⭐⭐ And Mary Wilson.

So deeply talented from the 60's immortal and loved by everyone from kids to adults,
Brings back so many memories listening and dancing to my favorite Motown music. Dianna Ross and the Supremes were my favorite! The 60’s was a busy decade for me with the advent of so much good music and dancing. Graduating, first job, Service, Marriage and my first Child.

Unreal how many #1s they banged out 1964-1967. Then , Temptations and 4 Tops tiled AM radio. Joe I miss those days. Smoothing with my GF at the drive in. Young people now have no clue.
Don't care what people say. It was not just Diana alone. The blend of Flo and Marys voices along with Diana's tone is the Supremes!!

Correct, but why is🌹Someday We'll Be Together (their) greatest one?!

To the queen of rhythm and blue, her majesty Flo. Long live your beauty, kindness and love for mankind. You stuck to your convictions. Love ❤u.
A tribute to Florence must include her singing lead on “People” from the movie Funny Girl. This was more like a tribute to Diana.
Mary and Florence RIP
💙💙🕊🕊
Happy Birthday Florence. You are still loved and missed, and no matter what some may say, you were one of the original Supremes.
Great sound!! We use to go nuts when the Supremes would come on the radio!❤❤ Fantastic!!! R.I.P. Florence.
This is a good shit
So, being a modern individual that you are, you instead go nuts every time you intentionally select one of their many songs to play? 😁
No one compares to the Supremes.❤️
Ummm, The Supremes AND The Temptations. They used to perform together under the names The Primes and The Primettes, if I can remember correctly.
Florence Ballard...was so beautiful ❤️ an amazing voice
Yes she was
You wouldn't know Ballard without knowing Ross and Wilson.
It was a shame that Gordy wouldn’t produce Florence for a solo career after the Supremes. The three of them created a unique sound that was a huge hit. Florence and Mary had legit voices hence the incredible backing vocals and harmonies.
@@pianoman8827 She was offered a solo contract in her General Release from The Supremes. She refused the offer.
@@pianoman8827 Florence was erratic! Not dependable!
All I can say is....WOW!! thank you for this medley...grew up with the supremes...❤
Love it! But, I only have one problem with this...................it's THE SUPREMES, not Diana Ross and the Supremes! Sorry, but I detest to this day, that the groups name was changed.
So do I. Berry Gordy may have been a genius at making Motown a powerhouse label, but he really dropped the ball in this case. He should have kept the group together under the Supremes name, keeping all three women equally active in recordings and performances, then spun all three out as solo acts, lavishing most (or all) of his attention on Diana as he wanted. But when the lovelight started shining through his eyes, he lost all perspective and judgment. He may have avoided the backlash against Diana that came after Mary published her book, which did hurt Diana's career (She never had a hit in the U.S. after that).
Bob Francis I agree...

If this is a tribute to Flo, why are you billing them as "Diana Ross and the Supremes"? She never appeared with them under that name, and no true Supremes fan ever uses it.
She did. It was for about a month but she did sing 'Reflections' as DRATS. Also they performed for a while as The Supremes With Diana Ross.
I read about that. The day they changed the marquis name to "Diana Ross and the Supremes" she was fired just before she was to go on stage under that name. Cindy Birdsong went on instead.
She recorded it before the name change, as well as "In and Out of Love", which was later overdubbed by the Andantes. These were the last two singles released by Motown which featured all three Supremes singing on them, with the exception of the singles recorded with the Temptations, where Cindy Birdsong replaced Florence Ballard.
Some musician at the Flamingo overheard Flo tell Gordy backstage that she was "not singin under no Diana Ross and the Supremes." Flo had noticed that the marquee had suddenly changed its moniker to Diana Ross and the Supremes. Flo was gone the next day but not of her own accord. Gordy threatened to have Flo removed from the stage by security if she didn't leave town quickly and quietly.
JACK ANTHONY Gordy was a slime ball for the way he treated Flo.
Awwww memories when my older siblings jammed out to these beautiful women! I remember every waord!word! Music artists aren't anything like they used to be! I want to get up and dance! Woo hooo! Great compilation! I love them still! 2022!
This is one of the best music compilations of Diana Ross and the Supremes.
Florence was a beautiful lady she had presence on the stage she was sexy and genuine!!! Bless you Florence..r.i.p.✨✨
Florence was a very statuesque woman. She had natural beauty like that of a Dorothy Dandridge or Lena Horne. She had excellent stage presence and very talented. RIP Flo. She is simply in heaven waiting for Mary and Diana to "come home" and things will be done the "right way" up there.
I had to tell you... you know when you look at these three women!!! they are unique. all three of them!! But Florence is the most unique of them all. She has style she knows how to carry herself she has the most beautiful moves I can't stress it enough but this lady has a lot of genuine genuine presence love you Florence you left us too early you will always be remembered!! ✳️✨⭐⚡💖!!!!!!
@@hehenry2408 Florence had style, grace and sophistication that made her stand out. Her star qualities were very omniscient even though she was a background singer. She was a diamond that simply needed a little polishing. Berry Gordy knew this but he simply chose to ignore this and focus his efforts on another individual we know, that individual was romantically involved with him. Florence was not involved with him or to him like that and as a result she got the shaft from Berry Gordy. This person we know was not a "team player" at all, she was of herself, about herself and for herself. This individual did not care who they stepped on to get what they wanted, we know this person did not make it to the number one position based on their talents but on their back. Florence, we love you and like Elton John said about the late Marilyn Monroe, "your "candle burned out before your legend began". RIP Florence. This is dedicated to a could have been a "potential superstar at Motown.
@@hehenry2408 It's about singing and not about looks. Flo is very pretty/sexy, but Diane is in the charisma/beauty section. Last but not least, although she was the perfect background for the Supremes, she hadn't the voice for a successful solo Karriere. And that's a fact! Last but not least: Diane was wisely chosen from Berry Gordy, called THE EAR!

Cindy and Marys blended voices also complimented Diana's tone as well. And if the recordings and live performances didn't have Dianas mics turned up a lot more than the other members of the group, people would have realized the prominence of the vocals Flo, Mary and Cindy had. I like Diana Ross! But the bottom line is that the without the unique vocals of her peers The Supremes would not been as successful as they were.
Diana Ross was by far the reason the Supremes were a huge, phenomenal group. Her lead voice carried the Supremes as demonstrated by the fact that her backup singers changed over time. Ms. Ross was always the lead singer.

Nice compilation! Every song has been brilliantly remixed!
It’s not a compilation or remix.
Behind Florence's beautiful smile was a lot of pain and unhappiness. She was a beautiful soul though...
Who's fault was that? All she had to do was be a back up singer!
@Johnny Reed: She created the pain! She was part of one of the greatest groups of all time. What "killed" her was looking back and realizing what a mistake she made! She let her jealousy of Diana Ross (role) lead her astray. Ask Berry Gordy, Jr, what The Supremes' role would be; after Diana Ross. If she disagreed with the terms, look into another record deal. Other groups have! Creative differences happen all of the time, not just with The Supremes. Her talent was worth protecting, yet she didn't protect it. She said "kick me out, then" .......yep. Eight years of depression, alcoholism, poverty, three beautiful girls, and a bad marriage.
SUPERBLY DONE!!!
Please don't dedicate anything to the memory of the late Florence "Blondie" Ballard titled Diana Ross and The Supremes! Any Supremes fan knows Flo was totally against the name change which went back to original name after Diana went solo. Are you purposely trying to be funny?!!? And what's up with clips of Cindy?who replaced Flo..she's turning over in her grave! Smdh

@@thatgirlteateagang9193 yeah she sounded amazing. They all did
You sound so very good!!!!!!
Beg to differ with you. The Marvelettes had a much stronger stage presence than that of the Supremes. The Marvelettes were better dancers, their choreography was more "crisp" than that of the Supremes. More time and money got invested with the Supremes than that of Martha Reeves and the Vandellas or the Marvelettes. Both of these groups had a "product" whereas the Supremes were the "product". They tried more things with the Supremes that they did not do with Martha Reeves and the Vandellas or the Marvelettes. Both of these groups were far more talent superior to the Supremes. The Supremes were like a "test bed" for Motown during that time period but you were looking at more time and more money at work. Some things paid off and other things did not. Getting back to Florence Ballard, she simply had "God given raw natural talent" that was far superior to Diana Ross' any day. Florence Ballard had the "grace to hold herself" while some envied her. Florence was a "diamond that simply needed a little polishing". She had the natural beauty of a Lena Horne or Dorothy Dandridge and it was envied by some people. Berry Gordy just simply failed to acknowledge the fact that when Florence Ballard at his fingertips, he wouldn't accept the idea that he had a "potential superstar" within his reach, but his interests simply lied elsewhere and the rest is history. Shame on you Berry Gordy!!!
Beautiful wardrobe. I designed one of my prom gowns from a dress I saw them wear on the Ed Sullivan show. My cousins and I used to pretend to be the Supremes in the mirror.
They used to play this mix at all the discos in the 80’s and 90’s. It was great then and still great now!

Florence Ballard and "Diana Ross and The Supremes" are mutually exclusive terms. She left the group, in part, in protest of the name change. How can you pay homage to Flo under the name, "Diana Ross and The Supremes?" This isn't a tribute to Flo.............it is an INSULT!!!! You must be a silly "Ross as a solo act" fan of a certain age to even use that name. No Supremes fan worth their weight in salt would ever refer to the legendary trio as anything other than THE SUPREMES. What's wrong with you????????? Don't you get it?
Amen
@@ronrossmore211 The name was not permanently changed...........it reverted back to THE SUPREMES after Diane left. Motown re-released cd's of The Supremes as DRATS to promote and market Diane's solo career.........just more of Berry and Motown stuffing Diane down our throats!
She didn't "leave" the group , she was fired. She was a drunk who picked fights with everyone , including Gordy (the boss HELLO), she had gained so much weight she couldn't fit in her gowns, she had been warned. Wake up ! She missed shows. The other 2 girls went on without her. Gordy warned her! At the meeting where everyone decided she was fired , they asked Mary what she thought. Mary's reply , from her book Dreamgirls, it was time for Florence to go. No one could take it anymore. And by the by , this was the most popular group in America. They were all under tremendous pressure. On top of that , let's all go down this drunk , loser path with Florence . Get serious. Disrespectful to Flo. Aaaawwwwhh poor thing. Listen to her solo album on ABC records after she left Motown. ( while she was being mismanaged by her hubby) . It is a total testament to her. She couldn't sing. She sounded like an old broad. Gordy made the right choice with Ross in the lead. You can't argue that. Flo got jealous. Man I would be too! She sang her but off , she worked her but off period. In the words of Smokey Robinson , Diana Ross was always the first one to show up at rehearsal. Everyone else would over sleep , not Ross. She wanted it. We loved all three of them. We waited for their next record, we watched them on TV all the time. Stop romanticizing her downfall like she was forced to do anything. Read Mary's book. Or a few others who mention some of the problems Flo created. Not everyone gets to sing lead Flo.
@@ronrossmore211 you didn't do anything to apologize for ! He is crazy! An insult? How's that? The Diana Ross led Supreme were the ones everyone liked. It's not unacceptable to refer to them as such. And by the time they changed the name , we all knew the names already.
@@hollygab8188 While SOME of what you said was true, has it occurred to you why Flo was so demoralized in the group that she resorted to such antics? Has it occurred to you why Mary and Cindy were not even speaking to Diane by the time she finally left the group to begin her solo career? Yes, Diane was the lead singer. ALL groups had a lead singer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lead singing did not mean that the other members of the trio SHOULD be relegated to 2nd class citizens! Mary and Flo were there for the GROUP! Diane was there for "Diana" Ross!" It became very clear that Berry was there for "Diana" as well. When all 3 girls were getting fair treatment, that was one thing.............how would you like to be working day and night at an incredibly stressful job with 2 other girls in the same capacity and ONE of them is getting preferential treatment by the boss that is so blatant that it becomes unbearable? We all know the spin that Motown put on Flo's departure. We all also know how Diane was stuffed down our throats by Berry Gordy by having the camera always on her, by being the only one to speak at interviews, by preferential treatment in written articles, by having her stand 5 feet in front of Mary and Flo, and by the name change to Diana Ross and The Supremes! It was the GROUP (the three women collectively) that took The Supremes to the heights to which they eventually rose. They were The Supremes for 10 of those number 1 hits. After Diane left, they became THE SUPREMES once again and while we missed Diane's talent in the group, fans were delighted to have The Supremes as a cohesive group again without Diane being stuffed down our throats. Berry abandoned The 70's Supremes and put the full muscle of Motown behind Diane's solo career to promote her popularity as a movie star to a whole new generation. In 1967, no one except Berry and Diane wanted the name changed to DRATS and the fans NEVER called them that. Radio DJ's were legally forced to use the new name and television announcers were as well. The fans, as they do to this day, still called them The Supremes. THE SUPREMES were POINTEDLY inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, not DRATS. When CD's came out, Motown released ALL of The Supremes' back catalog as Diana Ross and The Supremes and a new generation became CONDITIONED to that name. So, in general, when you hear someone call them The Supremes, it is usually because they were there, they lived it, and they were fans of the ENTIRE group, not just Diane. When you hear someone call them DRATS, it is usually someone who has been conditioned by the Motown propaganda machine for Diane, a "Ross as a solo act" fan, or an individual of a younger age who wasn't there when THE SUPREMES ruled the record charts as America's Sweethearts." I am well aware of Diane's contributions to the group and the reasons for Flo's dismissal. By the end, there was no choice..........Flo did have to go for the reasons that you stated. I am also very aware of the tactics that were used by Motown to make Diane a single, solo star and the unfair treatment that was imposed on Mary and Flo. So, I have had Diane stuffed down my throat for most of the last 60 years and I don't need to hear the same old driveling "Diane Ross centered, Motown produced, propaganda" from YOU...........we have all heard all that crap before and .......by the way,................YOUR name is NOT Berry Gordy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
