Like one would be a standard late 90's pretty nice " dad" cd player with lidgit surround sound real speakers woofers etc then one would be maybe a standard $35 walmart boom box then a pretty nice self contained cd/tape/vinyl "oldest son" bit better than a boom box or sometimes a portable cd player with those little aux plug in speakers lol or maybe through a Hughes and kettner atax80 guitar amp. Picking 3 random cds and 3 random players mentioned above would always give each attempt a crazily unique identity or experience it was as fun for me hearing it about a dozen different ways and seeing people who had no idea and just heard about it and are now hearing it their reaction. No single recording can ever capture the magic and wonder of hearing Zaireeka coming from four separate sound systems. It's an overwhelming experience to be in the middle of 8-point surround sound, and as the drift slightly out of sync it is incredible disorienting. Everyone's bucket list should include a Zaireeka listening party with friends. :D
I did it a lot in college with my flatmates. We wore out Soft Bulletin when it came out. Then we found out about Zaireeka in a magazine. Remember going to Amazon that must have been a new thing then and ordering it because we could not find it anywhere. It was an experience but very difficult to make them synch. I remember trying to do so in between fits of laughter while on acid because we just were not able to. W gave up. Should have been released as a single fully mixed together album.
@@cactaceous there was a 5.1 dvd floating around bootleg sites for a while. it was perfect! I found it on a torrent page way back when. but who knows where that is now! Thank You! Its great to finally hear it all together! I just listened to an interview where Wayne spoke about the fact that Zaireeka and Soft Bulletin were made simultaneously and I can definitely hear that at times, here.
Thank you for making this. Back when it came out, my friends and I got together and played them all at once... but only once. I’ve wanted to hear it since. Now I finally have! ❤️💪🏽👏🏻😁
VERY COOL!!!! Even though you're supposed to be able to get a decent "song" from using just 2 or 3 of discs/albums synchronized and playing simultaneously, I could never get all 4 to work together.

The most beautiful thing about this album is that it’ll never sound the same way twice. There isn’t a ‘perfect’ way to hear it; to me, it certainly doesn’t include a “flawless” mixdown. That just ruins the beauty of the experiment. Great job though :)
That is very interesting and awesome. I have never heard the albums together. In fact I had never bought this set because I knew I would not be able to listen to them as intended.

It's close but not quite synced properly. It's got to be a lot harder to do with vinyl because of speed variations. There used to be a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix that someone made. I found it on kickasstorrents years ago. Flaming Lips released a decent amount of their music in digital surround but they never got around to giving Zaireeka the Dolby treatment. It's unfortunate since it's the only album I know of that was meant to be heard in surround. It would be perfect for a 7.1 set up. Since there are 4 discs & each are stereo, there are 8 channels. If all the tracks from each disc could be separated by left & right, the center speaker would have to share 2 tracks. Preferably the right channel of disc 1 & the left channel of disc 2. By no means am I discounting what you've done here. It's amazing what you have accomplished with 4 vinyl discs. But for the sake of timing, Zaireeka's release on vinyl was an odd choice. Impossible to sync perfectly. No way could you get every turntable running at exactly the same speed to the nano-second. They just aren't accurate enough. Very interesting. Great work!
Maybe that was the point though, I think Wayne once said that every listening experience will be slightly different. That was his intention all along, I think.

When you say that it's a little fast on the turntable, do you reckon it could be tweaked a little bit by lowering the pitch? Should this person's turntables have a pitch control - most turntables do, well, I know most 60s & 70s vintage ones do. The 80s and 90s turntables tended to be cheap and basic [obviously not ALL turntables, but you get what I mean], it was only around 2000 when audiophiles began picking up on vinyl again and turntables started to become flashy and expensive, but at least now with stuff like pitch control again! =o) Just to throw this in here - In 2003, I got my whole stereo system out of a SKIP! And there's NOTHING wrong with it (Ok, so now it needs a new belt, but no big whoop, y'know?)!
