what separates professional from amateur musicians is not the abilitiy to never make mistakes, but the ability to recover and not give a shit.
Its not about beign a "professional" or an "amateur", because I can do that and Im not a "professional", its about knowing how music works.

A lot of people are saying that these midi machines are ruining music and performance, but if you have more of an insider's view of what he's actually doing during this performance, it's still quite impressive. It really is an artistic choice, whether to do it solo with all the equipment he has or with a full band, but I think that with this setup we can see a more "stream of consciousness" Chet Faker. He has COMPLETE control over what happens to the song. He can turn it into whatever he wants, and I think that's a really cool thing in modern music. As opposed to being in a band and having to deal with three, four, five other people, you can't move as quickly without orchestrating everything. It's different, but I like it a lot.

Although he could have messed up in this instance, it's not uncommon to begin playing in a layer of a song with the track volume turned all the way down, and then loop the piece, as he is here. Then you can fade the track in slowly, or manipulate it into the already grooving song

Had the pleasure of seeing Chet perform live last night and 1998 was one of the most unforgettable performances; the crowd went absolutely insane (in perfect unison that is)
