- On April 8, people in parts of the U.S. will be able to witness a total eclipse, while others will see a partial eclipse. To view it, you must wear proper eyewear, but experts are warning that fakes that won't protect your eyes properly are hitting the market. Danya Bacchus visited a legitimate manufacturer and has tips on how to make sure your glasses are safe.

They should've included a link to real ones
Anybody can be a journalist right now they don't even ask questions...the other channel talked about everything but the time we should be looking up at the sun ...he said... any advice for people watching the eclipse and the expert said don't drive wearing the glasses.... stup idest thing I've ever heard
Use a shoebox like we used to do at school in my time.
I use candle soot on a glass and it works well
If you wish to be safe, buy from an optical dispensary instead of online. No real company is going to risk a milllion-dollar lawsuit for a couple of bucks by selling fakes.
wrong Canadian Tire & HomeHardware in Canada both sold thousands of fake glasses
If anyone gets eye damage, we need to sue
Thanks!! Austin TX USA
This is very scary!
I used to make shields with fully exposed x-ray film. Multiple layers.
That was a long time ago. Get a good pair nowadays. I did.
I literally just thought of this yesterday when I ordered some from Amazon. And I thought of China bootlegging them.
yep, there's so much counterfeit Chinese items on Amazon, eBay, etc.
Just bought one from puzcow.... and it's dark... but when looking at my flashlight from my phone .. I can see that.
Still trying to figure out if it's safe.
I've been trying to tell people that they can also fake the ISO # as well, but no one believed me.
i got some
from hy-vee yesterday
The ones you buy in-stpre at walmart are legit right? vision scientific?
JUST DON'T LOOK!!
Right it's like family vacation to eat their eyes out
Just buy them at Meijer for a $1.99. 😂😂😂❤
That's where I got them but they said they might say the same thing but they may not be legit
Its tomorrow, and the weather aint lookin good
That means theres a company somewhere that wer like, ok wer going to start making eclipse glasses but they are going to be fake so we can make more money selling them as real.
Wow!
Mine was ordered from china but it's safe Because I did the flashlight test and it was so then and pitch black, so will it be safe to use?
I've got my welding helmet for just this occasion. Auto adjustable lens. Only paid 25.00. I'm set. 😎
Make sure it’s at least a shade 12 or higher
@@DumboWumbo420 very good advice! 👍
We are having to warn adults not to stare at the damn sun 🤦
My glasses are showing Made in Germany and have ISO mark. Are they safe to use?
Not china
What is the companies name?
You can find a list of approved vendors on the American Astronomical Society's website. You may also be able to pick up a pair of certified glasses at your local library, astronomy club, or science museum like where I picked up mine.🎉
Bought my made in china eclipse down the street
Here we go again with fake and real solar eclipses glasses! 😂
Faked or real eclipse 😂😮
@@donnalambs9578it’s not a fake eclipse…
Mine are fake!
Better to get some for free at libraries
@@tomnook3175 I found the ones I used last year they worked perfectly thank you.
Yeah no. We bought multiple welding lenses for cheap at Home Depot. Using them together gets the job done. It's the Sun so you're not going to see much surface detail like with the Moon.
THE GLASSES ARE SO YOU CAN SEE THE CORONA
I got mine on Wish
I sincerely hope you're joking.
@@MK-dr7dxikr lmao I bought mine off of Amazon and I hope they’re real
Wtf
Buy cheap weld goggles, highly reviewed
If you're planning to use welder's goggles, they must be a minimum shade 12, and certified for safe solar viewing. Personally, I will be wearing a pair of ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses, procured from my local science centre and tested with a very bright flashlight.
Wear a mask 😷 too
Yes smells so bad here.
Is this supposed to be sarcasm? If so, some of y’all are crazy. Would rather risk vision damage instead of just wearing glasses cause everybody is suggesting you to.

Is it a fake made china ecplise 😂
If you don't have eclipse glasses, I have a Trick, when I saw my first solar eclipse on 20th of April 2023, I didn't have any eclipse glasses, so I try to darken the view by Stacking Sunglasses atop one of each other so I saw a partial solar eclipse.
We just got eclipse glasses and got a refund from Amazon because they ended up not being approved as advertised 😢
Which brand are them please?
