    Have you seen the Taj Mahal of Worm Farms?
    I have been working on this style of farming for some time with a local friend.
    He actually perfected the method by adding another tier of carbon such as Sugarcane or Straw.
    I found he was working so well that I had to try it myself and BOOM!
    It's working so well, it is now my favourite way to run and manage a vertical tired farm at home.
    The worms love it. I can feed more and they breed like crazy in there.
    If you are enjoying my content and want to learn how to get up and running quickly consider becoming a Worm Wrangler.
    The Worm Wranglers members area level 3 has everything and more for all you worm farmers wanting to get started or go to the next level.
    Happy Worm farming
    Marty

      Great to hear that Elizabeth, it's one of my favourite methods at home. Just refilled my levels the other day to start again. The castings were great!😀

    Are you using this for the fertilizer alone or compost also?

    • @martysgarden
      @martysgarden  Рік тому

      Hi Nick, the small tiered worm farms like this are really designed to create, fertile castings and a liquid worm drench that can be accessed daily in the warmer months. My larger systems like windrows and Biggest Worm Farm Eva systems are both compost and castings.

    Marty, this is the Tumbleweed worm cafe, yes? I got one of these a few months ago, but followed the manufacturer's advice which is totally different than how you are using it? I think? Would love to know how you are dealing with the sump below the trays. Are you putting material there to help worms move back up?

      Hi Ann, in the bottom there is a cone they crawl back up. I dont have anything in the base. I plan to do an update on my Taj Mahaal as soon as I can. Been so busy moving house to my new awesome space

    Hi Marty, really appreciate your videos but would like a few points clarified. Your Taj Mahal has four layers. Can you just itemise each level again What is in the very bottom layer. Is that where the "tea" is stored. Where is the vermicast and how often should that be harvested.

    Hey Marty, nice video i have a worm café as well.
    Quick question, I am looking at potentially trying to grow some cuttings from my citrus trees and wondering if could grow them in pure worm castings instead of soil?

    • @martysgarden
      @martysgarden  2 роки тому +2

      No I wouldnt recommend it,,however 10% cast will really help in a cutting mix. 😀

    Our Worm Factory 360 is now on 90 days and we added the third tray. I wish I had seen this before, I didn't think to go ahead and stack the trays. When I fed yesterday I couldn't believe how many teeny tiny whisps (baby worms) there were in there. We started with 1000 wrigglers and 100 nightcrawlers. The worm sifter is coming tomorrow so we can look at harvesting the lower tray, but now I am thinking, should we just wait? I know the worm compost is better after four months of marinating, so to speak, and we wont need it until our spring garden next year. I would give anything to get straw hay (sugar cane hay must just come from the gods). We live in the high altitude desert area of The Land of Enchantment (New Mexico, USA). The drought has hit hard and the ONLY hay to be found is $30 USD alfalfa per regular size bale. Yet, if that is better than coco coir I would gladly pay for it. They are enchanting little creatures. I named them Das Verms in honor of my German husband. ❤

      Forgot to add, I started running their veggie food through a food processor to help them a long. We are vegan so it doesn't take long to rack up a ton of veggie scraps for them. Do you think the food processor is a good idea? I know it never smells bad in there.

    • @martysgarden
      @martysgarden  Рік тому +1

    Another tip I found helpful was to use a watering can to collect the drench. Then I just water it from the top with the watering can. Also I use an old Brita water filter jug to get the chlorine out of the tap water and use that.

    Hi Marty. I’ve started the same worm farm about a month ago. I started it using 2 tiers and left one empty and the worms seem to be doing well. I used a mix of coco coir, mushroom compost and coffee grounds and fine wood chips. So now should I add another tier just using sugar cane mulch just below the top tier to add the carbon content? Will the worms have any trouble moving through the sugar cane mulch?

    • @martysgarden
      @martysgarden  2 роки тому +1

      No, keep it fluffy and they move into it
