I just listened to the audiobook two weeks ago, I'm 17 and I agree bc Solitaire's pranks was unreasonable. Lucas is obsessive.I love Sprolden. Tori is extremely relatable. Michael is precious. Tori needs therapy.
i love your review!!! i have been reading heartstopper for like 5 years and decided to read solitaire in preparation for the TV show!! i also felt like i understand tori and charlie so much more!! i also totally agree about the kiss at the end i was dying when you broke down how random and out of context it was LOL. i hope we catch more glimpses of michael in heartstopper in the future haha. subbed 👍🏻
omg thank you!! I really want to see more of Michael Holden in vol.5 (I hope Alice will listen to my prayers). Although I know he won't be appearing on the tv show I would love to see a real-life Michael Holden. Alice did a really good casting for the show, I want to see what Michael Holden would look like haha
i loved the book. the references to garden state, donnie darko , catcher in the rye. The characters are realistic and have some form of depth, but the school burning down and no one actually doing anything and just not actually being acknowledged is just so odd. Please tell me that other people fpund this strange????
the only way i could explain it to myself is that it was a metaphor... or something? I mean like the whole solitaire thing is unrealistic. its awesome tho, and is a great story. i think the reason this gets confusing or frustrating is because the characters are so realistic but the world around them really isn't, so even though you relate heavily to the characters, you can't put yourself in their world
I have so many mixed feelings about this book. I love Tori but everything else about this book is so weird. I don't know how to explain it. Why was Becky forgiven? She clearly showed to not care about Tori's feelings when she kept going out with Ben, even though he just hurt Charlie physically a few days before. She didn't even apologise for it. This fact alone makes me feel so confused.
Ok all the jokes, and pictures, and everything. I love it. New subscriber. Also michael holden = cinnamon bun. Ben hope = trash but ngl that scene worried me
Ok so today my family needed to go on a roadtrip for important stuff with relatives. I needed something to do over the roadtrip and for in between whatever stuff my fam was doing and i read this book. FROM 7 AM TO 7 PM I FINISHED THIS BOOK AND I CANT STOP THINKING ABOUT IT it was like a movie in my brain
Thanks fo the video!! I'm just re-reading it and it summons all my ideas about the book I hope we can see more reviews of the Alice Oseman books in a future 🍃💕 PS: I love the jokes😂

I actually quite enjoy Solitaire, it is so incredibly chaotic at times that it sounds like a documentation of whats happening (even though the solitaire blog and pranks or sort of unrealistic) rather than an elongated thing where so much happens in one day. overall i like solitaire and micheal is the best. also the imagery in this video was very good 😊
yeah i think it started out really good but the pranks got really out of hand and all the characters started going insane i stg like they were laughing like crazy ppl as they burned the school down like what….it kind of ruined my perception of charlie and nick like they aren’t concerned at all i expected better from them idek
yeah, I had to constantly remind myself about the fact that they were 16 in 2014, and this book was written before the graphic novel so it makes sense that some things that nick and charlie do are out of character (honestly I has the same problem with the book "nick and charlie")
I finally read this book today and was excited to see some thoughts on it. If you've never watched Fight Club or Donnie Darko, both might give you more... Context? You saying she wrote this at 17 and the fact that she references both of those movies in the book, I definitely see where she drew a lot of the "escalation" from. Both movies handled their stakes better (though looking back at age 36 (a "little" outside the demographic but I sometimes I still really like this stuff) both are just so "edgy" in ways that didn't entirely age well), but they were both written by full-grown adults (and Fight Club is adapted from a book, though I think the author didn't like how it turned out or something). I also think the age (and it being her first book) also lends an interesting perspective that the solutions weren't as well researched (?) or maybe even experienced (?) as when Heartstopper starts getting into things like Charlie's mental health struggles (though it does bring up a lot more than I'd expect from a teenager's perspective, so maybe she knew people who'd gone through some of it). But I think that's part of why Tori probably really needing therapy(!) was more of a blindspot. Anyway you had some cool stuff to say about it, happy to have watched, I hope you check it those movies and see what I'm talking about.
Am only half way through the audio book version ( I rly cant read books so I just listen to them nd imagine in my head ) nd seriously this is way too interesting than I had expected... brilliant book!!
I agree, it's extremely interesting. I think I'll be listening to the audio book too, it sounded really funny on tiktok, and I think the person who reads it perfectly represents what I imagined tori would sound like :)
I read the book in one session in an afternoon 🤣😭 why did I do that. I feel like the end was super random. The pranks were insanely unrealistic and the fire wth 😂The kiss was very out of place! Despite this I kept reading because I genuinely really liked Tori. I felt like it missed romance a bit because it seemed like it was leading up to romance but it never happened until a measly kiss lol.

I love the book, and I love how some parts are ridiculous because it really gives the “everyone are going insane” vibe.
i believe in michael holden supremacy .

Yeah I was so confused because the school burning down isn’t addressed in book 4 or 5 of the main series
I have so many mixed feelings about this book. I love Tori but everything else about this book is so weird. I don't know how to explain it.

Yes! The ending was weird
does she stay with Ben in the end?? i couldn’t really tell. I REALLY HOPE NOT THOUGH
@@yolkyolk3148 no, she didn't, i belived that tori said that she didn't see them together after the party
Ok all the jokes, and pictures, and everything. I love it. New subscriber. Also michael holden = cinnamon bun. Ben hope = trash but ngl that scene worried me
I just finished this book and it made me cry

Low key Lucas gives off slight JD vibes
Wait, you’re so right
you have the loveliest accent! 💞
This book was very dark and triggering to me 😭 love Oseman tho 💜💜
Hello please ignore this i just have to resd this book for class but i completely forgot so I'm just watching reviews of it sbd trying to understand it:
