Thank you for this! I went here for my first MTB day and knowing what to expect from your video gave me the courage to take on blues :) I had a lot of fun
At 4:20 there is also the entrance to the sidewinder trail which leads to some urban trails that rips down it to the 145 bus stop on Gaglardi which takes you back to SFU. It is way more pleasant than doing the Mel grind.
Nice video Rode Mel’s a lot in the past Demanding! Never lets you feel comfortable Specially 5:35, past the creek, turn left technical slope and a very steep turn right Very few times made it all the way
Nice trail! Not many pedestrians. What time of the day and week is the best to go there? I’ve just moved to Vancouver. I am looking for good cross country trails that is not boring but also not complicated like downhill trails. Preferably somewhere with not much on foot traffic so I can go fast. I have a hardtail so steep continuous downhill trails are not an option. I like alternate up and down trails with relatively low slopes in between to go fast just like this one. I appreciate If you could give me the name if a few places in Vancouver area. Thanks
My advise is to just go whenever you are able to....due to COVID there always seem to be people on the trails at all hours of the day and week. Another really good XC trail is Bridle Path in North Vancouver. It used to be my training ground when I was racing XC
hello, it's a great video~ I just live on the mountain, so I really consider about to buy a mtb. Do u think that hard tail is enough for beginners to enjoy the Mel's trail ? Any local store do you recommend for my first bike? Do u still ride in winter with muddy road? thanks for answering the questions ~
How are you doing, great riding! You would’ve deserved more subs! Alright now, subbed. Keep rollin’! All the best, Philipp from PHAM --- P.S.: Any tips for mountainbiking in that area? I’m always looking for new spots to film for my channel… :)
Thanks Philipp. I see you're also in small and growing stage...good on you. Burnaby Mountain is pretty small compared with say a Finale Ligure but it's my local trails and wanted to get a feel for videoing and riding with a cam before I hit the bigger stuff. The North Shore is my next plan to provide a guide to. If your ever in Van and looking for a guide, feel free to give me a shout. Rubber side down!
@@TrailPOV gotcha, I felt like there was one or two incidents where you crossed another trail and it was a bit confusing direction wise. Also I think you crossed the water main path and I the vid said powerline.
Glad you like them. The best place to park to ride Burnaby Mtn is either about half way up North Road or along Gagliardi Way just after it takes the corner to head up the mountain (at the end of Nicoles).
Oh man this looks interesting! I never knew about these awesome mtb trails in my home town. Can you share some beginner tips on how to start riding? I am fairly comfortable with road but never on trails. How often do you run into bears on Burnaby Mountain?
Hi Gavin, mountain biking is amazing.....I'm sure you'll love it (no cars to contend with). So far I haven't come across a bear on Burnaby Mountain that I've actually had to consider as threatening. I've seen 2 way off in the distance munching grass. As for starting, look for gravel fire roads or XC trails that are rated as greens or if you're feeling adventurous, blues. Blue XC trails just sometimes include a wooden feature or two. Take a look at my North Road Trail and Dead Moped videos to get a sense of good starting trails if you have never even ridden on gravel. As for a bike, a hardtail is a great way to start and can be picked up relatively inexpensively. If you really get into it, then consider selling the hardtail and getting a full-suspension. Happy trails!!
Don't even bother to bring beginners to Mel's. I brought my wife and my friend there as their second time and they both hated it. They both ended up hiking the bike almost all the way through. May have scared them away from the sport lol.
@@TrailPOV I will try going this trail. I went to a different entrance tday Burnaby mountain I hated cuz you have to bike up I like this trail better all down hill
Great trail! I did this one today for my first ever mtn biking session! Love it

Hey great video! Do you know how I can find this entrance?
It's just on the other side of the road as the TASc building and near the Terry Fox field

Thank you. A hard tail is an excellent way to enjoy Burnaby Mountain trails. I enjoy Comor Sports, Obsession Bikes and Steed Cycles. Happy trails!
I was thinking of riding this trail this weekend, does it have enough signs and posts along the way?
Yes, Burnaby Mountain is well signed imo. Happy Trails!

It would be super helpful if you had a map overlay.
I feel like Trailforks does a way better job :)

Nice video! Good to see local MTB trails. You deserve more hits and subscribers. Are you on Strava?
Keep up the good work buddy.
Thanks very much. Slow and steady building the community :) I only have a personal Strava account for my own stats and interest.

Can you dirt bike in this trail?
Definitely not. Burnaby was even threatening at one point to shut down these trails to mountain bikes because they were causing too much 'damage'
nice music!
Thanks!

I guess everything is relative. A gravel trail to some is beginner while others need a berm or root or a rocky section
To each his own.
My wife is a beginner and I'm fairly certain she would love this trail!
