Actually, that was the exact moment I totally fell in love with her😊! I'm a Dutch guy, and certainly back then (it was 1985) there wasn't too much material of her in the Netherlqnds. Of course no UA-cam or internet or whatever. I remember I just came home from having a drink downtown, couldn't resist switching on the TV to see what was still going on in Philly.....and there she was, performing "New Attitude". But since I just had missed Bette Middler introducing her, I didn't know who she was.
Well, I've never been more happy with my VHS-recorder than that moment in time, 22 years young lol. The rest is history, since she became the Muse in my Life. And now being 60, she still is!

Love your reaction videos especially the 'Patti' reactions....I seen just about all her performance on YT but when she sings on the 'Merv Griffin' show its one of the best one's if not THE BEST (vocally).
Please can you react to Patti Labelle on the Merv Griffin show. Won't be disappointed!

Patti just like The late Prince has the ability to play with her vocal range and notes on the edge of a dime. A rarity of today's vocalist. An example of this, is when she paid tribute to Miss Ross. She just took those classics put a spell on them and T.W.I.S.T.E.D them all has if they where her 'own' hits!.

Patti is a great performer/entertainer. I have seen this video a million times, and I finally saw Patti's trick. She walks away from the mic, but you have look close ate her lapel on her coat. I'm not gonna say what it is, check it out. She's the best.

She took Aretha's song and spit it OWT. ua-cam.com/video/9xs6BwJjIGA/v-deo.html Aretha didn't even know how to react 😂

you should react to "Patti LaBelle - You'll Never Walk Alone (Oscar Hammerstein Medley)" - its a more "calm classic patti" but sooooooo good nonetheless!!

More than happy you enjoyed something that's considered to be "in your mom's/grandmother's collection". Though at 79 (80 in May), she can still outsing many. And as for falsetto, not in those days. It was chest, voice mix and head. And though she may have joked about it, there's nothing classical about hef. She is a soprano (dramatic that can change tomes on you) but there are contraltos (altos) in classical singing as well. But back to The Godmother, even back in the 60s, what may have been ok on a record was always given that Patti touch. She has left a musical trail and to those that don't understand the more powerful singers...too bad for you.

You and many other reactors on UA-cam are misusing the term "falsetto." Patti's high notes are in her head voice.
Although sometimes used as being synonymous with head voice, the Italian term falsetto means “false voice” and is not synonymous with head voice.
The word falsetto refers to a “false” voice because the falsetto uses only part of the vocal apparatus in our throats, rather than the full vibratory sound used in regular singing. The normal vocal sounds we make are created by the vibrations of our vocal folds (also called vocal cords). But if you use only the edges of the vocal folds, without allowing the whole mechanism to vibrate, then you can achieve that thin, high, floaty sound that is your “false” voice - your falsetto.
In head voice, on the other hand, the entire vocal folds are used to achieve full, rounded high notes as achieved by well-trained operatic sopranos. The key to achieving higher pitches in head voice without resorting to falsetto is the ability of the singer to produce more air pressure. With more air pressure, the vocal folds will vibrate more quickly and will produce a higher pitch. Less air pressure, and the pitch will be lower. A fully supported airflow distinguishes head voice from falsetto; while both are high-pitched, head voice creates a stronger sound than the breathy falsetto.
