The algorithm gave me this video because I was spending a week and a half looking up videos of gameplay for a presentation I was making about The Neverhood for a college class I took studying adventure games. The presentation was about adding games to the syllabus for future classes, and I was able to get The Neverhood into the future syllabus!
I remember one bug in Armikrog really soured my opinion of the game. I don’t remember what caused it, but a game breaking bug where the first slide puzzle was both solved and not solved simultaneously. It was solved because I couldn’t access it, but it wasn’t because the door was closed. Thus, forcing me to restart from the beginning.
Doug TenNapel should get the rights back from EA. They're clearly doing diddly squat with The Neverhood brand, and besides, how much could it be possibly worth ?
I mean I played it and outside of the grab exploit to crush the first half of the game. It's not to bad at all. Maybe less stereotypes would have been nice tho.
UA-cam randomly recommend this video to me at 6 in the morning. And to be honest... Love it. Also if not for me having a copy of Skullmonkey's, I would've just thought that was just a thing I imagined.
None of these ever happened to be better than Neverhood. I hate the fact the actual sequel Skullmonkeys, became a platformer instead of remained a point and click like how Neverhood was. I loved the first game being point and click and was so rooting for the sequel to be like that as well, with new puzzles, new locations to visit, new hints about the Hall of Records or something, new funny cutscenes with Klaymen, great designed houses, rooms. All these could've been possible. Such a missed and wasted opportunity. The Neverhood was a successor for me way better rating than 6/10 like rather 9/10 at fair minimum. It has replayability despite half of the puzzles will always be the same while some other puzzles change. I love this clay world and I always will.
Thank you for sharing about Klaymen Gun Hockey. I can't wait to look for it on my trip to Japan this year. I never would have known it existed if you hadn't made this video
Frankly the most impressive thing about Armikrog is that TenNaple didn't include any christian overtones. Also Gun Hockey seems like just a worse version of one of BG&E's minigames lmao ua-cam.com/video/RawsH-JBMBc/v-deo.html
Ah the Neverhood. The first pc game I got when getting my first PC. I am scarred for life. But its also a game that reminds me of my dad because we completed it together. It has a very sentimental value to me. Also I had many nightmares from it. But I remember playing the game a few more times alone exploring each part of the game scene by scene just to see anything new. From the drawings during credits I believed there is more. Afterwards I only heard about the skullmonkeys because ps1 was very expensive and only the rich kid had one. Thank you for this video I needed to know what other games were out there for me to see.
Thanks for reviewing these and going over the general stories! I had no idea they existed! =o As much as I hate Doug himself, the Neverhood will always have a special place in my heart ❤
You sounded like you had resentment towards fighting games. I think traditional fighting games are fun, but they do have their flaws. If you wanna learn a new character you would have to invest a lot of time getting used to the character and learning how to use them. Inputs like half circles or whatever are not an issue, but I understand certain inputs can feel like bullshit depending on what they are and how they decided to program them. Sorry if I sound annoying it just bothered me that you sounded like you despise fighting games.
I don't hate fighting games. At best, I am indifferent toward most of them. I just think the traditional combo system is very archaic, a bygone product of ye olde arcade days where the cabinet controls were set up specifically for that type of playstyle, something controllers tended to fail at mimicking (with the possible exception of the Neo Geo controller, which I've never used). One of my favorite PS2 games (not top 10, but up there) is Soul Calibur III, which I sunk over 300 hours into. And even after beating Night Terror, Chronicles of the Sword, and unlocking absolutely everything, I STILL sucked at it. Not for lack of trying, mind you. I did genuinely try to get better and learn the characters' moves, but I could never consistently pull them off. It's too frame-perfect for me.
I have never heard of this bot game... looks like something I would definitely have loved as a kid. >yep, I am ashamed to admit. I would have loved this.
Ah Armikrog. It was arlos review that even tipped me off to the neverhood universe. Kinda sad such a cool universe is left with such underwhelming sequels.
I just don't understand why he dropped a flowerpot on Klaymen's head. It's such a mean-spirited prank. He also seemed to show zero concern for Klaymen when he disappeared from The Neverhood. But in all honesty, I don't *hate* Willie; I just think he's annoying.
Between the two videos, I uploaded a vid called "New Score Meaning System" that changed the way I give scores. 8/10 was a nonsensical score based on statistical values and categories, while 6/10 (which means "Above Average") is how I actually feel about the game.
I like the levelheaded look into the spinoffs and sequels to the Neverhood. I do think it’s a shame that the series didn’t really take off like Earthworm Jim did. Hell I think Earthworm Jim’s struggled to maintain relevance after the second game. I mean that game you showcased was intended for the Intellivision Amico which…is a rabbithole in itself. Not to mention a new series was announced with only a trailer and nothing else. But honestly looking at these games I definitely see untapped potential for a creative and wonderful universe that Doug could have expanded upon through better explained lore. But man it’s also a shame that he may not return back to the series or if he does people won’t really give it a fair shot due to some of his political views. But that’s a can of worms best not opened.
Wow yeah thanks for the unmarked armikrog spoilers, not like you had me interested in playing that or anything :( Also, you seem to have some odd resentment towards fighting games. They almost never require you to be frame perfect - when they do it's for very specific links which you absolutely do not need (many fgc people hate links anyway).
Ah yes, when you can't detect any reference or think out of box - literally for whole Armikrog review I know its not perfect but you gotta think out of the box to get the lore because both Neverhood and Armikrog are in the same universe, Vortinaut could have crashed at the Skullmonkey's planet and get the dagger from there, and in the ending Tommy could rescute Klaymen I might be crazy but it hekcing makes sense, think out of the box Also the video was nice and I gotta agree that Armikrog misses the charm that Neverhood had
gang imma be honest ur way too critical on games MADE FOR KIDS. like bro its not made for you, and even tho its not everyone else loves it. your the only one that feels like hating it just cus u can, ur just annoying
Things made for kids are not immune to criticism. Making something for a kid is not an excuse for it to be terrible. And for the record, I liked all these games except for Klaymen Gun-Hockey, which is objectively bad.
@@TheVoid13 yes, you can criticise something made for kids, but your criticising it like it’s made for adults, and not a kids game. Give it some slack for that atleast
Wait, The Neverhood? In 2020? YEEES!!!
where?

Likewise. Hell, I'd take even something fanmade if it respects the spirit of Neverhood and Skullmonkeys

Someone tell me I'm not the only one who thinks Boombots isn't all that bad.
I mean I played it and outside of the grab exploit to crush the first half of the game. It's not to bad at all. Maybe less stereotypes would have been nice tho.
I don’t think it’s that bad.
Boombots was the only one of these I heard of for a long time. I loved it as a kid!
It was very entertaining to me and my brother growing up. 😀
This just came up in my recommended videos. And it deserves so much more attention. Love it brother.
Is it just me or do i really want a skullmonkeys remake
how could that even be acheived?
No. It stands on its own. A remake would only take away from it, especially since nobody would be willing to pay for proper claymation these days.
Would you review the comic and OST sequel "Return to the Neverhood" ?
I dunno. I'm more comfortable reviewing games.

Because The Neverhood is owned by EA now, and Doug Tennapel doesn't work for them.
